1960 Chrysler 300F Coupe2 Front Brakes
We start in on the front brakes, replacing hoses and wheel cylinders, starting the bleeding process and repacking wheel bearings. With the master cylinder connected, we get our first check on the new brake light switch which worked fine.

Here we flush the brake system of old fluid, measure drums, install rear wheel cylinders and backing plate seals. We check the differential fluid and the driveshaft boot, both OK.

We continue work on Coupe2, the 1960 Chrysler 300F. We put kits into the carbs and start in on the brake system. We remove the rear hubs (sometimes an adventure) and review the shoes all around. A few things to check when putting carbs back together.
1960 Chrysler 300F running after long storage
Просмотров 5542 года назад
Coupe2 last ran in 2001. We took advantage of a warm day in winter to see if we could get it running. We did the normal things; checked the oil, coolant, transmission, barred the engine by hand to check for stuck valves, checked for spark before cranking with the starter. We made a lot of progress and got good results but we need to freshen the carbs and replace the fuel pump before going further.

The Chrysler F, G, and H have unique center consoles. Installation of the front ash tray isn't hard if you know the trick. We clean up, paint, and install the front ash tray on Coupe2, the on going project of a 300F. We also paint the headlight switch knob to take care of missing paint.
1960 Chrysler 300 F, Coupe2. Working on the driver door.

Taking apart the driver door we find a good repair to the power window motor and bracket. These often break after years of doors opening and closing. We service the door handle, latch and lock mechanisms, lubricate, clean and reassemble.
1960 Chrysler 300 F. Coupe2, working on the rear console.
Просмотров 2232 года назад
Work continues on Coupe2, this time looking at the rear console. I knew it didn't fit right and after taking it apart, found the hinge was backward. More importantly, we figure out how to reinstall console hinge pieces through an access hole that is not easy to see.
1960 Chrysler 300 F Passenger side door and interior work

We continue work on "Coupe2", moving to the door. The latch works stiffly so the mechanism is cleaned of old grease and reassembled. We take a look at the rear quarter window and interior panel and seats. We start polishing interior chrome.

Pertronix sucks! I wired it up correctly, and it put my GTO on a roll-back 3 times. Don't buy their stuff! A couple days after the warranty expires, your car expires. Trust me, you can't replace your points in 10 degree weather, in the dark. Pertronix sucks!!!

Very clear and concise. I am finding many of these mistakes were made when pertronix was installed in my car by my mechanic. A few other things that can go wrong: 1. Magnets can fall out of the sleeve. Apparently they come with a green tape to hold the magnets in place. Many remove the tape and the magnets can get flung out. 2. The module wires can get weak and develop a break, especially when the vacuum advance kicks in and physically moves the module

One more item Bob, in 1960, the switch is held into the dash by 2 sheet metal screws screwed in from behind. No studs with nuts at the front. Near impossible to unscrew from behind. I suppose the mechanics working on these when new put in complaints and they changed the mounts to studs and nuts later on. Both my November 1959 and my buddy's July 1960 built '60 Chryslers have the switch mounted with sheet metal screws from the rear.
