Barbados snorkeling
On Barbados, the entire island is a nature preserve for sea turtles. Snorkeling is enhanced because every beach is public access ... even those with resorts on the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. Access to the beaches is so easy w/ countless parks which are often only a mile apart.
And seven sunken ships attract aquatic life, grow coral, and host snorkelers.
Bring your mask and fins!!!
NOTE: Cut bait fish is a good attractant for sea turtles.

    • @patinpaint746
      @patinpaint746 21 час назад

      Thanks tlallgood, Since you will see the lower edge while standing below, I would usually finish it as you do the more visible top. However, this is not a hard rule. And if you choose to leave it wood, use tape to create a perfect lower edge … create a finished appearance that leaves no doubt you intended to leave it wood. It is true that taping the top of the spindles will facilitate finishing the lower edge. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So take a moment to solicit family input before you start. Hope this helps! Pat InPaint

    😂😂 Sorry but when I heard Hydraulic cement I lost it 😂 as I tried this method and it's probably the worst and does not stop water. Try Polyurethane sealer in cracks and once cured use Roofing Tar on the Polyurethane area to permanently seal the leaking area. You can apply PSI 6000 Cement mix on the area afterwards for lifetime success 🎉

      Good Day Afterburner, Thick applications can take several days to dry. Try putting a floor fan in that room for 1-2 days. The circulating air will help draw the moisture out of the surface. Thin coats added a day apart would be the usual path to a thicker coating. Just give it indirect air flow around the room and you should be ok. Hope this Helps. Pat InPaint

    THANK YOU!!!!! I'm getting ready to start my first project, and it's a doozy. l'm doing all my kitchen cabinets, and I've seen about a million ways on how to do it. Some say use wood conditioner, others say not to. My honey-oak cabinets were previously finished, so I was guessing I didn't need to do that step. Thanks for clarifying that for me (and helping me win a bet in the process! (Showing the second sanding and results would've been great to see, but this video, alone, has given me more confidence!) Thanks again!!!

    • @patinpaint746
      @patinpaint746 10 месяцев назад

      $$$$$ nothing like a qualified guess that wins a bet 🤣 W those previously finished cabinets, adding a sealer is overkill. Use your time to smooth on first coat w long flowing strokes in direction of the wood grain. Allow to dry until no longer tacky to touch and apply second coat, same technique as first. Allow to dry completely. Potential error points 1) over brushing… simply smooth a good flow onto the surface and leave alone 2) over coating too quickly … if humidity is high, it may take several days for each coat to dry. Don’t Rush! Hope this helps! Pat InPaint

    I need help, I had a tenant who painted the bathroom with a very dark blue (semi gloss behr marquee) and while he did an good job painting, the color is HORRIBLE! Please I cannot hire a professional painter but I need to paint over this (is white out of the question?) I got some white Behr kitchen bath and trim stain blocking primer and sealer, (says for adhesion to glossy surfaces and dramatic color change) going with a very light blue would be acceptable but problem is the floors are redwood.. I need advice and any encouragement the bathroom was just redone with all new drywall and I don't want to do it all again.

    • @patinpaint746
      @patinpaint746 10 месяцев назад

      You’re right on the path to success Josh! White is certainly a choice and using a stain blocking primer is the correct first step … expect 2-coats of primer and 2-coats of paint to completely cover. Primer dries faster so you can double coat in 1-day. Then paint, allow to dry 6-8 hours and carefully inspect to determine if a second coat of paint is necessary. If your new color is other than white, tint your primer to be similar, but slightly lighter than your paint color… this will promote the color transition while it hides the old color. Hope this helps! Pat InPaint

    • @JoshNoss
      @JoshNoss 10 месяцев назад

      @@patinpaint746 yeah I'm still awake agonizing over it.. was thinking it might help to go with a much lighter blue, perhaps that would help hide any bleed-through? I'm already prepared to get the best paint, thinking Behr dynasty instead of Marquee and have already gotten a primer/sealer called Behr Kitchen bath and trim "for adhesion to glossy surfaces, dramatic color change" I just wish I didn't have to sand the semi gloss beforehand! Couldn't I just put the paint w/o primer over the previous semi-gloss if I bought it in semi-gloss itself? If you don't answer I'll understand, thanks for the encouragement

    • @patinpaint746
      @patinpaint746 8 месяцев назад

      That tinted primer is going to be your best bet Josh … it’s less than paint and each coat dries in an hour. The best part is primer acts like double stick tape … clings to existing coating and process a surface for your new paint to adhere well. Your local paint desk can’t mix your tinted primer if you explain the project. Hope This Helps! Pat InPaint

    During staining, how would deal with the 3 other faces of the boards? Like under the deck, and between the gaps.

    • @patinpaint746
      @patinpaint746 10 месяцев назад

      Great question DB Use a hose-end deck wash or pressure wash all surfaces. Allow bleaching action to kill mildew … particularly on ends and underneath Rinse or allow rain to flush surfaces and dry completely. A sprayer will do all your surfaces. But a 3-inch chip brush is narrow enough to stain between most boards. And a 4-inch brush or 3/8 or 1/2 nap roller cover will handle the flat surfaces. If your store has Tool Rental, explore renting and spraying the whole job. Hope this helps! Pat InPaint

      Thanks for your feedback Orin, Traditional wipe-off stain allow you to control color saturation and even apply accent coats to lightly add color. These oil-based products will saturate your hardwood gun stock, and excess is then wiped off. Following a full drying cycle of 8-24 hours, you’ll apply polyurethane as your protective coating. Stain and Polyurethane in One is not designed to be wiped … just applied and left alone till dry in 6-24 hours. They’re completely different processes and results will vary. Sorry you had that experience, but if you try the traditional method you will find a color and protective coating to make your gunstock excellent. Hope this helps Pat InPaint

    I'm just finishing up the power washing part of the deck project and am looking forward to attempting this. I saw this video a few months back when looking around and I'm pretty sure with how many previous coats of paint are on my current deck, this is the only way that I'm going to get the wood to accept a new solid stain. The deck is old, but the previous owners kept it in really good condition and I want to try and get another 5-7 years out of it before replacing with composite.

    • @patinpaint746
      @patinpaint746 Год назад

      Colin, That’s an excellent idea! Exactly why I made the video … DIY that will give you another 7-10 years and push back the expense of a new composite surface. Take your time, wear eye protection, flush the nails or screws first, and allow the tool to glide across the surface rather than bearing down. You’ll find the right combination of pressure and speed. I absolutely love my deck afterwards and with the exception of 2 boards, it is all original construction. Glad the video encouraged you! Watch it one more time before beginning. Pat InPaint

    I did exactly what you said. I added the concrete etch into the mix thinking it was non skid. I painted the plywood floor in my enclosed trailer with it. Should I use the denatured alcohol still and lit it sit for a certain amount of time? If so what is a good dwell time?

    • @patinpaint746
      @patinpaint746 Год назад

      Hi Kyle Unfortunately, the acid etcher was suppose to be used to clean the surface (usually concrete) and open the cement pores to allow the epoxy coating to cling very well. When you mix acid w epoxy, you create a solution that will never dry… to boot, you’re applying concrete coating to wood. If I had to remove this gooey mixture, large amounts of denatured alcohol and numerous packs of cotton rags would be tools of choice. Nitrile gloves, long sleeve pant and shirt you can throw away, trash bags, and knee pads might also be on my project list. Or you might remove the wood, replace and start again. A popular wood treatment uses a blow torch to char the surface. The harder grain will color differently than the body of the wood. And once satisfied, use floor-rated polyurethane to double coat w 12-18-hours between coats and 24-hours dry time after the last coat Hope this helps Pat InPaint

    Hi Pat. Most Exterior paints latex, oil based should be applied when it is atleast 50 degrees outside and a sustainable temperature of atleast 32 degrees for 3 days/72 hours. If you don’t do this the paint will bubble and possibly peel and all your hard work is for nothing. You can paint inside during the winter but most people don’t because they want their windows open. In closing paint is a spring summer and early fall project. You should Never attempt to paint in the winter.

      The paint world has changed Reginald. What you described was true 15-years ago. And oil-based paints Are Not included and still require much warmer temps to cure properly. But, if you read the label on many newer products, like Behr Ultra, you’ll find that the instructions in my video are accurate and what the manufacturer recommends. Stretches the painting season further into the Fall and starts back earlier in the Spring. You know, I love a sunny beach in colder months. 😀 But should you choose, simply follow the directions on the label and watch you local weather. Hope this helps! Pat InPaint

    • @patinpaint746
      @patinpaint746 Год назад

      Hey MR Prep is key to adhesion and coverage. Backing up one giant step, you’ll use 220-grit to sand the surface just enough to “break the gloss” but not down to the wood. Second step is to prime w oil-based primer tinted similar to your new color. If show through is still a problem, apply a second primer coat after the first dries. Once primer dries completely, apply two coats of High Gloss topcoat paint. Allow each to dry completely. If topcoat is oil-based it will self-level as it dries. If topcoat is water-based, add Floetrol which promotes leveling by slowing the drying process. Hope this helps! Pat InPaint

      @@patinpaint746 Very detailed step by step so this will help me a lot so thank you and much appreciated! Sorry but just 2 last questions if you don't mind, would I have to lightly sand between the primer coats so it adheres to the surface better or 2 coats of primer and then a top coat of gloss is okay? • @patinpaint746
      @patinpaint746 Год назад

      Hi MR Primer is like double-stick tape for paint… it adheres well to the existing coating and leaves an open surface that is ready to adhere to your new topcoat. Only reason to sand would be if imperfections were visible. Yes, foam roller and flexible tip brush are great for topcoat. Keep plenty of paint on either and use long, flowing strokes in the direction of the wood grain. DO NOT overwork the new paint. Simply flow it on and allow it to dry. Happy New Year Pat InPaint

    Do you leave that much glopped on? And so uneven? And what about raw wood not over some existing finish? how do you just apply the stuff. What if you've already done all the sanding and everything is ready? can you apply multiple coats? I just see all of the important information completely overlooked in this video. I literally want to see the video start at the exact point where this video stopped. I don't really want to see anything that was in this video, I want to see everything from this video on.

    • @patinpaint746

      Good inquiry Otto, Stain and Poly in One is very different from traditional stain then poly. If you’re working w unfinished wood, the traditional process allows multiple coats of stain which gives you more control over the depth of color … each coat applied for a specific length of time and the excess wiped off. Stain and Poly is never wiped off because the Poly will streak. Each coat is left completely untouched until dries (6-8 hours). Then 220-grit sandpaper is used to remove the dried excess before applying the second coat … when dry the second coat evens out the color. This key difference addresses most of the problems you addressed. Traditional is so much better for color control, but it takes multiple days or even weeks to complete properly. On pre-finished wood, Stain and Poly eliminates the need to sand down to bare wood. Sand until you “break the gloss” on the existing finish, wipe off sanding dust and apply thin coats. Since you reference unfinished wood and color quality, I would recommend Traditional for you. It will take much longer and many more steps, but you’ll be much happier w the final result. Hope this helps! Pat InPaint

    great job! no nailing? confused

    • @patinpaint746
      @patinpaint746 Год назад

      Great Question MML! In the original install shingles are nailed along the top edge and there are no shingles above. Repairs are a little different because you’re working under an attached shingle above. With care to not bend and break the older shingles above, nails can be applied but probably not along the top edge. The roofing tar in a caulk tube is very adhesive… in a warmer climate it will adhere very well. If colder, nails midway up the repair shingle will ensure they stay in position. It’s a judgement call. In my example I spread them on the concrete floor to demo because it was simply too dangerous to record the repair up on the roof. Use your discretion. I have used both approaches w no shingle slip. Hope this helps! Pat InPaint

      Hi Sandra! Nasty is a great way to describe. But I just recoated mine and I’m so glad I took time to remove the old paint. Pressure wash May wet the boards, so allow time for drying. Wet board fibers will tend to tear. If you’re certain that you’re going to remove, forget that step and spend your time on getting down to the wood. Hope you enjoy your “new” deck!!! Pat InPaint

    I applied Varathane premium Gel stain(rustoleum from Home Depot) with a soft flex paint brush to my oak railings that were sanded down nearly to bare wood and the stain still has an oily almost sticky feel to it after 15 hours of drying? Is this normal? Inside temperature is constant 72 degrees with AC running all day cause it is hot and humid outside? I did not wipe anything off because I applied with the paint brush very lightly and it did not seem to have any excess stain. Do I now have to resand and apply a brand new coat. On the can it says to apply to bare wood but not sure if that is required. any advice? Thanks!

    • @patinpaint746
      @patinpaint746 Год назад

      Good Question B Charron In your description you used the word Humid. Even though you’re running the AC, humid conditions slow down the dry time considerably. On another video I used Varathane on stairway handrails. Usually it would dry in 6-8 hours, but humidity was high and it took almost 3-days to fully cure. It sounds like you’ve done everything well. So I’m suggesting you give extended dry time until it is no longer tacky to touch. Hope this helps! Pat InPaint

      @@patinpaint746 Hi there, here is an update. I was actually able to take a dry clean cotten cloth and was able to wipe off some of the stain even after 15 hours of drying. Now it seems to be pretty dry after waiting another 3 hours so I was thinking of putting at least one more coat in some areas that are lighter than the other areas, and wait until dry again before applying the top clear coat. Does this sound like a reasonable plan? Thanks!

    • @patinpaint746
      @patinpaint746 Год назад

      @@charronfamilyconnect The manufacturer recommends no wiping and waiting until the surface is completely dry. Then using a very fine 220-grit to lightly break the surface, then wiping sanding dust before applying the next coat. This promotes even appearance and uniform color. And then the same steps before clear coat. It is slightly different from traditional wipe-off stains. But I hear ppl successfully creating their own process everyday. Let us know how it works for you. Pat InPaint

    I’ve never used stain and poly mix. So, no wipe I assume, because of the poly? Does the oak grain still show through without wipe? Doing new red oak Newell and rail. Verathane Kona. Would it be best to do regular stain and then poly or would this mix work ok? I struggle with getting a consistent cover after wipe, so the no wipe mix is intriguing. Again, new oak wood. Great video by the way, and excellent commentary! Grateful. Steve in Kansas

      @patinpaint746 2 года назад

      YW Steve Like you I was a traditional stain to color and Poly to seal. The advantage to PolyShades is it covers old stains without completely removing them. If I had new wood, I would go traditional. It allows you much more control of exact shades of color. The key is to make long, flowing strokes and repeat the wipe-off time precisely on each piece. There are several more steps going traditional… like adding second or third coats to deepen color. If you choose PolyShade, Do Not Wipe or touch for 6-8 hours. Your notion about wiping is precisely correct. Hope this helps! Pat InPaint

    Can you spray this in a paint spray gun?

    • @patinpaint746
      @patinpaint746 2 года назад

      Hey Bryson Mynatt Great question! The oil-based version is very thin … similar viscosity to auto body paint. If you’re skilled setting up your air pressure & gun spray tip, you should have no trouble spraying. But if you watch the video, you’ll notice that my cabinet door is almost vertical and the product tends to run during brush application. I would recommend perfecting your “thin coat” set up on an experimental door, before applying to your project. You can come back and let us know the proper setup. Hope this helps! Pat InPaint

    I wonder how toxic those deglossers are...

    • @patinpaint746
      @patinpaint746 2 года назад

      Hey Tim Tom TSP, trisodium phosphate, is in many of our products including some cereals. It has been studied extensively and as most products in our marketplace you should review the literature and decide for yourself. What I suggest is wearing protective gloves and respirator to limit exposure. This is true when using the sandpaper I recommend as well … sanding dust in large amounts could expose you to breathable dust particles that may be harmful. When in doubt, move to the least harmful deglosser. And always protect your health. Hope this helps Pat InPaint

    Can this paint take a patina solution?

    • @patinpaint746
      @patinpaint746 2 года назад

      Great Question Vickilynne! This paint is water-based, and will accept other water-based topcoats after completely dry … several days. The texture you create w the metallic paint will have small ridges into which a patina could be applies. Test several techniques including patina wipe off wet and also partially dry. Your preferred timeline should be maintained through the entire project. I don’t recommend blending the patina into the metallic can or applying it while the metallic is still wet on your surface. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so have fun creating your masterpiece. I’ve not seen it and I already want to yell WOW!!! Hope this helps! Pat InPaint
