The chemical base is the same but everything after that is different . Had curls off and from the 80's to the early 2000's and the steps and the technic is different. I know a mother and daughter who has the Gina curl and the mother ,who has had the old school perms said it is not the same.

Don’t be encouraging people to get the Jheri curl and their hair falls out after the retouch. Most people just do the retouch process wrong and after a few of those there’s inevitable breakage. Less overlap and breakage with Gina curl

Honestly I’ve had 3 Gina curls and I prefer the SV more basically because I bun my hair a ton…. My hair is a little straighter than this young lady because I chose to flat iron after processing in lieu of roller setting.

I think I prefer straight variation as well because it's less tangles after 5 months that I have had it so far. The puffiness from the new growth can be maintained with buns and rod sets. I am on the fence. about applying direct heat. I haven't touched a straight or curling iron in 2 years.

@@emlh5423 no you can’t unfortunately go back to the Gina Curl. Yeah it’s the webs for me. And even with natural hair I don’t feel like my hair is as tangled as it is with the Gina Curl. I guess the two different textures just makes it more difficult

Try Avlon Texture Release System. There are videos on here of women who have gotten it. I found a stylist by foning Avlon. Fone is on Avlon Texture Release sight in faq area. Cheaper service too.

The humidity will case it to frizz some. The rods set can't be totally bushes out for me if you want more curls. Bigger rods for straight hair is what I have learned. Video to come. 😉

Thanks for the advice! I will try the bantu knots. The flexi rods have worked only for tight curls so far.

Certainly, In the evening, put a shower cap on or two depending on your length after you apply water with a spray bottle, and apply your curling creme. My favorite is the African Pride. If you need more leave in for moisture, apply that before the curling creme. Wake up and scrunch your hair with your hands and flip your head upside down to get the back. I hope this helps! What comes around goes around and so many folks are going back to the jheri curl gels and other products. We do what makes us look the way we desire. To each his/her own.

Just with any type of hair, I have had to experiment to find what really works. I have had three textures and now that I have cut out the texlax, I hope to see better results moving forward.

Hmm... I hadn't thought about creams as being a problem that is causing my shedding. Even though I don't want to confuse my shedding with what is normal daily shedding. I understand our hair is supposed to 75-100 strands per day and I only comb my hair on the days that I wash my hair. Thank you for sharing your content. It gives me something to think about. I can't wait to see your retouch video!

@@dalytheos Yeah, I think it's hard to decipher between the daily shedding and the creams. I noticed though after I washed my hair and applied the leave-in, there was barely anything but once I put the cream, it was showing up every time I applied it. Just be careful and monitor which ones do this for your particular hair during your routine. Trial and error as they say.

In my #7 video I talk about returning back to my oils. It is necessary especially with the cold weather. I also changed up my creams. Just as you had to experiment with products when you were a natural, you still have to find what works with a curly perm and avoid protein like the plaque. I also started cowashing with conditioner again since I am nearly 7 months with the Gina Curl. See if that helps. The 5 min Miracles is great when you want to take a shower and not have to really wash your hair during the recommended time. Your hair craves water so you may need to add it to your nightly routine and add leave-in conditioner and cream as usual.

Ladies, please make certain to do your own research. One is definitely different from the other or else a jheri curl would have been an option. Let's stick to facts and not discredit. Thanks!

@@savvycurls4207 yes there is a difference. Gina curl double process your hair with the chemicals. First to relax with Japanese straightening then again to break the bonds and reform the curl in the pattern of the curlers.

Gina is pretty doing a wave Nouveau... find an older black beautician who still or has done curls back in the day.

I would agree only on the part of doing your own homework ladies, but do not judge until after you have done so. If you haven't gone through the process then you can't speak on it. Yes, it is a chemical and without proper care as any chemical, you will have poor results. Vigilance and fact checking is always a must.
