Session: Welcome to UK Practice Taster - What you need to know as an international medical graduate
Adapting to UK medical practice can be hard for any doctor, regardless of where you’re from or how experienced you are. Our free workshop is designed to help doctors new to the UK, by offering practical guidance about ethical scenarios you may encounter, and the chance to connect with other internationally-qualified doctors. I have just watched this with fascination as I find the whole subject very interesting, and suitable for myself. I have worked within the NHS as a medical secretary, patient admissions administrator, and many other roles within temping. I also hold a Medical Terminology qualification, and have used PAS and ICE. Unfortunately, I have been unable to work now for over a decade due to health problems, and now looking to regain employment within the NHS. I have been researching areas and came across clinical coding which immediately resonated with me, being an avid researcher, obsessive about correct detail, and fascinated with medical and health areas. I have been struggling to find out how to get into this career, and your video has been invaluable. I have made notes throughout. I’m also wanting to take an anatomy and physiology qualification, but again unsure of where to start or which one to go for?

Thank you. I have my second stage of the interview process at university tomorrow. I do not have a degree, but lots of experience with working in the community with people, as a youth worker and healthcare assistant where I’ve learned lots of transferable skills in supporting people with various mental health difficulties of all ages and backgrounds. My passion for helping others and wanting to make a difference in others lives is what got me the interview in a very competitive field. I feel so grateful to be selected out of over 200 applicants considering most who applied likely have a psychology degree and are more educated. I do feel my genuine passion in supporting others will hopefully be enough for the university to offer me a place tomorrow. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 I want this job! And I’m not using it as a gateway into another profession. Thank you for this. The speaker who’s put this together has empowered me more to put my passions forward and secure my place as a trainee pwp. This lady genuinely loves her work, I can hear it in her voice that she’s really making a difference in peoples lives and it inspires me even more!! Thanks again, wish me luck for tomorrow ❤️

Before you enter any healthcare profession, you'll need to choose a programme that includes practical courses in Regulatory and Disciplinary Law, yes law. Many health care professionals are removed from practice for doing the right thing for Pts, like whistleblowing about PT. Safety concerns created by managers. You need to learn how to instruct your defence barristers/solicitors, familiarise yourself with the trial processes and practise how to defend yourself in court using actors and scenarios at university as undergrads. Don't be afraid - be prepared. Know the case law around your area of practice, not just healthcare law. Some Lawyers are experienced, unconscionable liars who have no duty of care towards Pts. But you do... Begs the Q, how come criminal defence barristers own the law firms that 'prosecute' healthcare professionals...? Money not care, rules the very secular regulatory lawyers, while many HC profs are guided by religion-inspired values such as honesty and respect. Their God isn't God but a false God called ££££. Trust me.

@@judithh4947 hey Judithh. Yeah that’s correct. EMDP has a 1A and a 1B year. You are essentially a first year for two years. So, in your second year as an EMDP student you will have lectures with the first year MBBS students. Then in your third year you become a “Year 2 medical student”.
