He sounds tired honestly. The whole song is very reserved compared to the recorded track
It’s also interesting, because when I saw him very very recently, he definitely hit the high C
It’s a night to night thing, a decision made in the moment the voice is a muscle and perfect technique does not protect you from fatigue
It’s gotta be a night to night thing. I saw him last weekend on Saturday evening. 2 show day. He opted out of the high C on “well, I know” but the run and the hold on “past” with the belt was spectacular! As was For Her; only tea and my green light. This was definitely my “Santa fe” moment and it was so worth the 12 year wait.
I think that’s how it was written wasn’t it? That’s how I heard it when I saw it on my birthday. And the composer Jason Howland was conducting that night, maybe he didn’t want to have it optioned up?
This man is so emotionally moving and inspirational.

@@TheaterDazeI saw the original at St. James Theater in the 90s and I was lucky enough to catch the revival before it left Broadway. I absolutely loved it. I love how the revival updated a few things and did some modifications without totally changing the story. I love all the songs. Can you upload the “Pinball Wizard/I’m Free” song? Love that one. 😁
