Even being that these engines drive slowly the amount of talk they have is astounding If I was to have a tractor I would much rather it be steam over gas I think mostly for the coolness factor but just having 5000 foot-pounds of torque just sounds fun😂

What happened when it stopped at 3:17? Did he disengage it somehow? Did the load overwhelm the engine?

Think I was there that year. RPM was higher and belt was super smooth, engine was causing a little earthquake in that area. Torque fluctuation was sort of wild in this video, not the demo I saw which ran super smooth and much harder.

The sae unit of torque is "pound-foot." Foot-pounds is not torque.

this the usual era where the engineers tried to fix everything once with steam fed by coal or wood then oil then the nuclear atom engineers are such a positive thinking bunch tell them there is a problem and they just jump and go at it

I am pushing 70 and as far back as I can remember I always felt a very strong connection to these amazing steam powered machines.....the engineering that went into these incredible machines is just amazing and a testament to the generation that created them....plus the detail and all the cool stuff that was incorporated into and onto them like the paint and pinstriping on a lot of these old steamers....

There are tractors in my area that have 500 drawbar Hp. At 6 mph that is 3100 lbs of pull. Tractors are much smother riding and cleaner today. Just turn the key and engage the auto steer...don't forget the DEF

This one of those Lee Greenwood moments!. I'm proud to be American! Look at the ingenuity, engineering, and sheer creativity of a group of men a 100+ years ago, and yes the same from a new generation to recreate this. The challenges to the youngsters RECREATING it by the plans was probably as great or greater than the original design and build! I am PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN.

Fantastic demonstration. Being built as a single cylinder, is what causes the belt slap, too much rpm drop between power impulses. Just imagine what it could do if Case had opted for a double cylinder design, smoother power output. Those power slaps (impulses) are what caused the originals to fail. The gearing kept failing because of the shock load produced by that 14 in bore. Corey upgraded this one with better steel in the gearing so it holds up.

I may go to sleep tonight listening to that chug chugging.
