Her Life Was at Risk. Alabama Didn't Care.
At 24 years old, Tamara Costa and her husband Caleb were raising a toddler and delighted to have another child on the way. But then, they got devastating news: The fetus was missing its skull, and many of its organs, including the heart, were outside its body.
There was no way the baby would survive the pregnancy-but Alabama’s strict abortion ban doesn’t allow termination, and the state has threatened to prosecute anyone who helps patients receive information. And so Tamara’s doctor, she says, simply handed her a sticky note with a phone number and the words “Planned Parenthood Chicago” written on it.
Chicago is 580 miles from Huntsville, Alabama.
In an exclusive story, the Costas spoke to T...

The Dominican Republic's Total Abortion Ban
Просмотров 2809 месяцев назад
There is a total abortion ban in the Dominican Republic that is costing women and girls their lives. The stories told in this PSA, voiced by Leslie Grace, Laura Gomez, Laith Ashley, and Jillian Mercado illustrate the grim reality this total ban has on its citizens. Luis Abinader, president of the Dominican Republic, has the power to legalize three exceptions to the ban: when the life or health ...

But didn’t Ted Cruz himself reassure us that pregnancy is not a disease? Why does any woman even need obstetric care? I’ve heard that Aboriginal woman walking across the desert at the onset of labor just drop back for a half hour and then catch up with the group! Pregnancy and delivery are natural! Vote for me! I’m pro-life! And pro-femicide, too! (My apologies to Aboriginal women everywhere, but that’s something that was commonly trotted out as proof that American women were weak and self indulgent about labor and delivery in the 1980s. Didn’t venerably bearded Dr Lamaze ‘prove’ that labor pain is all in a woman’s head in the 1960s? She just needs to train to relax and breathe like he tells her to! ) If men had babies obstetric and maternity care would be the best funded, best researched, best anesthetized, most revered medical practice in the world. But as it’s “women’s work”, look the other way lest your masculine sensibilities be deranged by blood and mucus and placenta, and agony and death. How inconvenient. In 1954 as I was crowning, my mom was told to keep her legs together because the OBGYN was still on the golf course. In the 1960s I grew up seeing full page color photos of a dead woman on a back alley abortionists table in major magazines. Make America great again? What woman in her right mind, what truly Christian woman, would fall for that big lie?

A lot of them don't believe this kind of pregnancy malfunction happens as often or as completely as this young woman's. Pregnancy is all bunnies, rainbows, and meadows until it hurts real bad and then you have your baby! If they do acknowledge that things can go totally bad, many think it doesn't happen enough for legislation to be crafted to accommodate or they assume logic is already being applied. Others don't care. When I was a women's healthcare center sidewalk volunteer, I was genuinely shaken by some of the horrible things the grown up adult people with rosaries, crosses, and gory signs said to the women and couples as they walked past them into the clinic. An elderly female protestor once got behind me when I was part of a human "buffer zone." She said that if women die during pregnancy or delivery, so be it. Her mother had died giving birth to her, so others should make that sacrifice. The entire scenario was frankly chilling. It certainly didn't motivate me to have a basketball team worth of babies.

And trump said he’s “women’s protector” because of overturning Roe. No, he’s more like their unaliver (can’t use the real word here you know), because, although this woman was lucky, others are dying, in ALL the states that overturned reproductive healthcare. I hope the families of the women who weren’t so lucky will sue trump, and/or the individual justices on the Supreme Court who overturned the law that actually protected us for 50 years.

I believe there were people who wanted to do that with slavery once upon a time, too. If you can convince enough people that some born human being is Lesser Than, this kind of nonsense becomes "acceptable." They'll use the word "tragic," or "unfortunate," though.

Qualified medical ethicist here. Accurate information is important for properly informed consent. Deliberate abortion, as opposed to accidental miscarriage, is the deliberate killing of a human being before natural birth. When a child is conceived, he or she is a complete human being and is no more part of the mother's body than part of the father's but is physically dependent on the mother's blood for food and oxygen only, which passes from the mother's blood into the baby's across the placenta. If a biologist got hold of a piece of the baby's body tissue. however soon after conception (fertilisation) the biologist could tell that that tissue was from a human being who was neither the mother nor the father. Proof that the baby is not part of the bio mother's body is shown in a number of different ways. Male sperm and female ovum can be combined in a petrie dish and conception can occur and the child can be placed inside the prepared body of a woman not even related to the biological parents and can grow normally until strong enough to be born. The lungs are normally expandable at 20-22 weeks. We do not currently know how to get oxygen into the baby's blood other than through the placenta. If an expectant mother dies later on in pregnancy from an accident or illness, if the baby can be removed from her womb within an hour or so, that baby can carry on growing and developing as normal, again proving that baby is not part of the mother's body. As science consistently demonstrates this fact, there are certain ethical questions which arise when discussing deliberate abortion. Is it ethically acceptable for one person to have the right to kill another, usually because the other is inconvenient? Can one person own another, i.e. has slavery not really been abolished? A pre natal infant is sentient, i.e. can feel pain, from about six weeks into his or her mother's pregnancy onwards, usually starting from round the mouth. Most forms of abortion involve extremely painful procedures for the child; burning to death, vivisection (cutting up alive), suffocation etc. A humane solution to a pregnancy where the mother cannot or does not want to raise her child is adoption. There is a long waiting list of approved people and families who want to adopt but are not given the opportunity. There really is no such thing as an unwanted child. A very important aspect of such a situation is that health care professionals are not robots who are objective observers in the practice of aborting a child for the purpose of bringing about his or her death. Health care professionals are also responsible to themselves in that they 'first do no harm' (primo non nocere) in any situation involving patients. Is it really appropriate that our health care professionals should just be 'mindless plumbers', there to follow the demands of patients? Is that what people go into medicine for? If so, how can health care professionals be trusted to save lives when they also kill?

This couple's whole story is crazy. She's been an abortion activist since jump street, she jumped on the bandwagon to sue Texas over their abortion laws immediately, she's been to Washington to lobby for abortion, and she's seemingly "grieving" because her baby died because she couldn't abort it and kill it anyway? Does that make ANY sense? I've read what is available about her case history, she had a rare cervical defect that started this whole process, contrary to other stories, her water DID NOT break. She wasn't immediately showing signs of illness, the baby's heartbeat was okay, to her doctors she seemed stable. An "at risk" pregnancy, but generally stable. Things got worse, the baby died, they promptly removed it, and she spent a WHOLE WEEK in the ICU being treated for an infection with antibiotics while under observation. The main cause of this, and what likely killed her baby, was a blood pressure medicine prescribed to her at that time which she had a negative reaction to. I'm a man and I had this same issue, six years ago I had a negative reaction to a blood pressure medicine and I spent six days in the hospital while they worked to get my BP back up and stabilize my heart rate. And yes, I became very sick, I developed an infection in my lungs, I ran high fever, it took weeks after I got out of the hospital to get back to normal. The fault here lies with her physicians and no one else. Texas allows abortion if the mother's life is at risk - the ONLY people who determine that are HER doctors - not the Texas state legislature or the federal government, that is entirely up to HER physicians. My daughter is a labor/delivery nurse, we've talked about this case ever since they popped up on the radar, but a LOT since the ridiculous Biden ad which shows her grieving so much because her daughter that she wanted to kill is dead, and somehow, that's Trump's fault. Her lawsuit against Texas is just for HER pain and suffering and HER PTSD because she got sick, which she blames on not getting an abortion. Nothing about her child, which she quickly wanted to kill anyway. And her hubby's remark about states being "justed as f*cked up as Texas" is telling. Austin has a big airport, you want an abortion that badly, get on a plane and go to any state that still allows abortion - plane tickets aren't very expensive. Bottom line, she had a rare cervical condition, she would have gotten very sick either way, if she had had an abortion or not. Either way, the only people to blame for ANYTHING in this instance are her doctors, and the couple themselves. If a doctor tells my wife she could die if she doesn't get a surgical procedure that's illegal in our state (whatever that would be), we'd be on an airplane before the sun went down to get her somewhere that she could get that operation. This is nothing but self-serving propaganda from a couple looking to get liberal fame and make some money over a tragic situation.

I tell all the women and girls I care about, that once a man gets violent with them, no matter how much they apologize, it always gets worse. I'm glad you survived that ordeal, you are a wonderful actress and I enjoy seeing you on the screen. Speaking out is a huge step. Kudos to you!

Thank you for sharing your story Melissa. It will help many other women. I have endured the same but with a parent. Years of therapy, journaling and meditation have helped. Glad you are safe and away from that guy.

An abortion is not considered successful unless a human being dies. It is, by definition, NOT healthcare. Additionally, there are ZERO obstetrics textbooks, ZERO gynecology universities, ZERO documents in any medical journal or otherwise, which lists "abortion" as a treatment for any disease. "Life saving abortions" simply do not exist. Ask any OB/GYN and they will tell you, since 93% of them refuse to perform abortions (source: NIH. NLM). If abortion is healthcare, why do virtually all healthcare professionals refuse to commit them? Why is there no healthcare authority on earth which lists them as such? Why does it defy the basic definition of healthcare, which entails improving (not destroying) the human health?

So you are saying there is no health condition that might require abortion to save the life of the mother? I am not a doctor, but I can name at least 4 conditions when abortion saves the life of the mother. 1 - ectopic pregnancy 2 - cancer 3 - heart condition of the mother 4 - when the fetus died and spontaneous abortion (a.k.a. miscarriage ) doesn't happen naturally

And I think you also misunderstand the term disease and health condition. Those are 2 different things

@@NoirChloe 1. Ectopic pregnancies aren't treated with abortion. If they're tubal they're usually treated with an antimetabolite like methotrexate, or straight up surgery. I have no idea why you think any of those things are an abortion. They're not even remotely close to D&E, D&X, vacuum aspiration, or any other abortion procedure. In fact, Planned Parenthood literally says on their website "No, removing an ectopic pregnancy is not an abortion and we don't do that here". Who told you that was an abortion??? 2. Once again, I have no idea who told you that cancer is treated by committing an abortion...? 3. ??? 4. Completing a miscarriage is not an abortion either. See Mayo Clinic, CDC, National Library of Medicine...
