Visiting the New Fonte da Areia Viewpoint and Beach, in Porto Santo 🏖️
The Fonte de Areia Viewpoint offers landscape and surroundings marked by sandy rocks. A unique landscape that witnesses the geological antiquity of Porto Santo.
The large quantity of sand gave this place its name, where the purest water on Porto Santo was once found - it was even considered a sacred spring by the locals.
The sandy rocks, shaped by wind erosion, provide a unique visual spectacle. This phenomenon, complemented by the large quantity of sand that occupies this area, proves the geological antiquity of Porto Santo.
It's a shame there's so much trash down in the beach, they should really clean it!

It's a shame this levada is abandoned, it has really amazing views! Unfortunately it's not safe to go all the way to the end. I really wanted to, but in some places we can't even see the path anymore and you don't know where you're stepping. Finally managed to film the rest of the Levada da Achada Grande in Boaventura! It's really beautiful, and slippery! Some parts are a bit dangerous, and could definitely use some safety rails. Doesn't look very safe to me... But piece and quiet, which is very nice. Tourism has increased so much in the past 10 years. I couldn't believe it. My first time on Madeira was about 30 years ago. The North coast was really quiet then. Many places where you could be (almost) alone with nature. This year - crowds almost everywhere. Even when I got up really early. Keep showing the secret places, although they won't be too secret anymore...
Yeah Madeira is really full of tourists these days, it's unbelievable!

Ponta do Sol is supposed to be the warmest place on Madeira. Ask any local and they will tell you this. It is Urban Legend! However the weather records do not confirm this. I have been checking the weather reports daily for the last 2 years, and I have always almost found the temperature at Santa Cruz to be 1-2C warmer, generally more windy, but less humid than Ponta do Sol. I can count on my fingers the number of times that the reverse has been true.
Yes Santa Cruz is very warm as well. Lovely place! Right now it's warmer in Ponta do Sol (22c) than in Santa Cruz (20c) though. Thanks for commenting! :)
I love this trail! Today, we followed the levada also down the other direction that is not described in PR 16. It was also very beautiful. I wonder how far you can follow the levada safely in that direction. We turned around not far after a large tunnel. Do you know where the trail along the lavada ends in that direction?
Hello Yvonko! Yes it's a very beatiful levada, both ways :D I have a video here of that way you went, but it ends before going in the big tunnel. It takes you to man made small waterfalls and then after a while you'll be in a place called Achada, the levada continues for a bit but ends next to a forest guard house. There you'll find a metal bridge and a another tunnel, but it has a gate and is always closed!
