He and previously the woman from Boston MFA started their lecture saying that they refuse to correctly pronounce the name of van Gogh...If you can't do it,shut up about it and don't ridicule what is above your powers! The name stems from a village in Western Germany,find out how it is pronounced there,I'd say! And then he stumbles through the lecture,didn't take his hayfever medication,coughs into the microphone and makes mistakes: the flowering branch is not from an olive tree and the name of the skinny Belgian Eugene IS BOCH ,not Blanc! This man is bigoted,and should not give lectures about a painter who is mentally unstable and who tried to explain his shortcomings in his paintings by weak excuses like: he can't paint the figures in the Olive Garden,because he didn't get the anatomy right(his own words) and he then says there is no need to paint human figures in a religious painting,the trees will do! Just look at his cardboard women harvesting olives!

About the lecturer: Dr. Helga Kessler Aurisch. Born in Germany, Dr. Aurisch moved to New York at the age of ten. She received her B.A. from Smith College before returning to Europe to pursue her M.A. and Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Vienna, Austria, and the University of Freiburg, Germany, respectively. After beginning her career at the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Dr. Aurisch joined the MFAH staff in 2004. Since, she has been responsible for attracting first-rate European art exhibits to Houston. Dr. Aurisch specializes in nineteenth-century painting and will provide expert insight into the two collections we visit on our tour.
