My good friend Jon Spitzer, skateboarding photographer extraordinaire and shooter of many iconic skate photos. In between shooting our skate photos Spitzer was always playing around at the spot and managed to often get a clip. The result was this video part released as a bonus feature on "The Saudade Express" DVD.

Test footage comparing Sony's TRV900, VX1000, and VX2100. Did my best to set all the colors with the same settings across each camera. The picture quality on the TRV900 and VX1000 seem to be very similar, whereas the VX2100 gave us a higher saturation. As for the audio, the VX1000 mic seems to take the cake. A quick Side by Side match up with the Sony VX1000 & Sony TRV900. The different angles allowed for slightly different lighting scenarios and results. I did my best to match the colors settings between the two but seemingly had some mismatching. FS Boardslide by Mike Mag.

the trv900 doesnt sound so good compared to the vx1000?
Yeah that’s an understandable statement. The VX has a built in condenser style microphone where as the trv has a standard trv style mic
Although I do disagree as I find the 900 sounds much better, sound quality is the reason my TRV 340 has a Sony Directional Mic on top

TRV is sharper no doubt but not much. I think with some twiddling in the custom presets menu and some post work you could match it pretty close

@@tedbundy3794 Well I'd say sharpness and maybe some post adjustments to the highlights and possibly the midtones. If you put the cameras side by side you could honestly get them relatively close
@@tedbundy3794 the thing that would make this look like a VX, would be audio. You can get the VXMix by Wooden Camera and attempt to get it close but it takes work but it could be worth it if you really want to recreate the VX

Trv has a higher res, thats a fact. The mic Quality is very shitty tho and i also prefer thr vxs zoom
@@PandaJackk yeah? You’d like that over the digital zoom on the TRV cameras? Hmm hadn’t thought about that. I’ve never owned a VX honestly but I did own two HVX 200’s recently and the zoom on them (button assisted on handle) wasn’t as good as it could be. I’m assuming the VX has a similar style. It’s definitely more fine tuned if so. Easier to ease in or out I mean.
@@dam.5470 that’s where I’m kinda lost. I always thought it was iconic due to the vibrance. And in that case any Digital8 camera made by Sony will give similar results. But I would say the VX looks more like a HD Hi8 or something if that makes sense. My TRV 340 has a nicer look than the VX for my taste but that’s just me I like rich vibrant colour. I had a 280 back in 2007-2009 and that thing was so good. Had the little light built in for night filming and everything. Idk why they went back to the old style body on the 300 series. Oh well I paid $100 for the camera,leather bag,wide angle,telescopic,upgraded battery,every cable possible and 7 high end tapes in 2022 so I can’t complain lol If we’re talking vintage style, my Samsung SCL906 8mm camcorder was soooo good! The fuzz at the bottom was so thin too and the colour was perfect. Had such an era defining look. I wish I hadn’t got the charger stolen… or maybe it was the battery. Whatever it was, it was unrepeatable at that time for my 15 year old self so I bought the 280 for like $60. Pleasant upgrade though!
