    Hi! Just wanted to say that I've enjoyed your Vlogmas, especially the sheepies! I got the Magpie Fibers Celestial Advent with the Dusk main color, it's a beautiful teal. I spent December working on the Tellybean Knits Merrymaking MKAL. Finished that & have just started on the knit shawl pattern that came with the Magpie Advent. Not very far, yet, have only gotten to the fourth contrast mini but I'd be happy to tag you as I post progress pics to Instagram. I'll search Dirt Floor Fibers and see if I can find you over there. 🙂

  • @reignbough73
    @reignbough73 24 дня назад

    I have the Magpie advent too. The bits that are dangling from your chain thread onto that open circle thing and the stich markers go onto the circle and then you close the hinged part. On mine I can't get the hinged part open. It's very tight and I don't want to tear my fingernails up trying to open it. I'm gonna find some kind of small tool to pry it open later. :)

    • @dirtfloorfibers
      @dirtfloorfibers 22 дня назад

      Thanks! I thought it was something like that after looking at the picture on the website. Is your clasp centered, or is one side of the chain longer than the other, too?

    I'm really like all the colors for 8&9 for all of the advent calenders. Your sheep are super cute! What are their names?

    • @dirtfloorfibers
      @dirtfloorfibers Месяц назад

      The big girl with the great bangs is Unica, the lighter one with a painted face is Amelia, and the darkest one is Unica's daughter, Bianca! I love that they not only have their own personalities, but I can even identify them by baa.

  • @shaunastitches

    I saw the Pantone color of the year is beige. The minis are right on trend. I don't blame you being underwhelmed by some of those sets so far. I have one that I'm not loving but I'm trying to remind myself that there's a lot left to go and hopefully it gets better.

    • @dirtfloorfibers

      Um, Mocha Mousse is so 2025. We get to have Peach Fuzz for another 3/4 of a month, thank you very much. ;) I think that once you lay out the finished set, it comes together and you can see the vision, even if it isn't your favorite color palette. I just get disappointed when it doesn't really match what was advertised, or what the you think is the dyer's usual style. Especially if you loved their advent set the previous year, but missed out, and especially given that they cost so much. (Totally justified, though. It's a huge amount of work to put something like this together, especially considering the cost of packaging.)

  • @JHENSHOMESTEAD
    @JHENSHOMESTEAD Месяц назад

    I got to really thinking about that one advent calendar I commented on yesterday. I noticed that today's was more pinker in the white part than the day before. What if it's a backward gradient? That would be super pretty!

    • @dirtfloorfibers
      @dirtfloorfibers Месяц назад

      Looking at the mood board, it starts with pink an works its way down to grey/black, which is such a pretty color palette. It looks like the one today is moving from the pinks to the purples. It's pretty, and I love the yarn base, but I just don't see it as a "fade" as advertised, more like a gradient or ombre. I'm hoping the overall effect is fun, and it will look great worked up into a final project. Maybe this is the set for the Gradivent? www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gradivent

  • @reignbough73
    @reignbough73 Месяц назад

    Omg, that light fade advent is SO subtle ... can it even really be called a fade? Pretty colors, though, at least. I have the Magpie Fibers Celestial Advent, also. I got the Dusk full skein. It's a beautiful moody teal color. I'm also planning on doing the knit version of the crescent shawl that came with it. I haven't started yet because I'm also doing the Tellybean Knits Merrymaking Cowl MKAL with a yarn kit from Lolodidit and really trying to keep up with the 12 daily clues (so fun!!!) because I want to wear it for Christmas Eve. With the 8 non-yarn items in the Magpie Fibers advent I don't feel like I'm getting too far behind and will enjoy the knit even if it takes me past advent season to make it.

    • @dirtfloorfibers
      @dirtfloorfibers Месяц назад

      I like how you can still do advent knits in other months. Enjoy opening the colors in December, then take on the challenge of finishing a project in one month, after the crazy holiday season is over!

  • @JHENSHOMESTEAD
    @JHENSHOMESTEAD Месяц назад

    I agree with you on the faded yarn. Seems kinda lazy, I would have thought the first one would have a ton of red throughout, but they look almost all the same. Love the one after. Those are really pretty colors!

    • @dirtfloorfibers
      @dirtfloorfibers Месяц назад

      I mean, I do like the color. If it were a full skein, or it was advertised as a gradient, I'd be all over it. I just think there is a difference between a fade and a gradient/ombre.

  • @reignbough73
    @reignbough73 Месяц назад

    I haven't found I needed to completely frog a project very often, But, the max I will try to restart after frogging is 3-4 times. Depends on how badly I want whatever I'm trying to knit. Love your sheep friends! They're so cute!!! I got the Magpie Fibers Celestial Advent this year, too. I chose the Dusk option for the main skein, it's a deep teal color -- so beautiful! Really liking it so far. I like the combination of yarn and other goodies in it, especially when the goodies are things I might not buy for myself. I'm really interested in the stitch stoppers they included. I haven't started the project yet because I'm also doing Tellybean Knits' Merrymaking Cowl MKAL with a yarn kit from Lolodidit that I want to wear for Christmas Eve at the in-laws this year. So, I'm trying to make sure I don't fall behind on the daily clues for that before starting the knit pattern that came with the Magpie Fibers advent.

    • @dirtfloorfibers
      @dirtfloorfibers Месяц назад

      I'm liking the stitch stoppers so far, but they'll really be put to their test once my shawl grows. I haven't tested the smaller one yet, which seemed a little looser. I'm interested to see where the Magpie yarn colors go. The description said that the Dusk version had a "richer, moodier look," while Dawn was a "softer, more contrasted one." With the colors so far, dark teal seems like it has more contrast. Maybe the colors will deepen as the moons progress? I just looked up Tellybean Knits- they have some amazing colorwork patterns. Um, those Fishkins Mittens?!?

    @dirtfloorfibers4248 I just found you through RUclips because I was watching all yarn vlogmas video's from many people. I was curious about what your advent planning looks like so I watch it and I also subscribe to your channel, because I had such a good laugh when you were telling about you only wanted 1 advent calendar and you end up with some more 😂😂😂😂😂They are fun, I only have 8 yarn calendars this year plus 2 swaps and 2 with full skeins for advent Sundays (can you have too many? No you can😵‍💫) I'm going to knit the Past Present Future Blanket this year and I'm going to make it a bit bigger because I have another advent calendar from last year of the same dyer that I use this year.

      Hello! I'm hoping to expand into online sales this year. I waited forever to start selling in person, because I always backed down to the perfectionism and imposter syndrome telling me that I wasn't ready yet, wouldn't be able to figure out the logistics, etc. I finally jumped in and didn't regret it at all, so I just need to get past my own self and pop up some pictures online! I'll let everyone know when that happens :) And yes, that is a Sheepishly Me sweatshirt! I've totally worn it out, I've worn it so much. Sandi was a huge inspiration for me to jump into my business and put more on RUclips. I love how she shows the good and bad, the ups and down, of balancing a farm and a family, and operating inside of a system that often doesn't understand how farming and food production works.

    I think you will find that you have retarded the winding on by threading it through the silver eye as well as the yarn guide on the sliding hook hope this helps with the takeup

    Thanks for the ShotBox review. I had not even heard of this photo box until I saw it at the locals Michael's Craft store this past week. I got on Amazon, and it was only $79, compared to Michel's $130, so I bought it, along with the SideShot. Then I started looking for RUclips videos and came across yours - it is the best of the previous 5 that I watched. I also, went back on Amazon and they had the case for only $20, so I ordered one of those as well. My main use will be online sales of all the junk I have around the house and also to photo my HO scale slot cars (which are similar in size as Hot Wheels cars). As for your blurred photos using the SideShot, try using your phones timer to take the photo a few seconds after you press the shot button - that will give the SideShot tome to stop shaking. Thanks, Charlie

      I love the idea of using the timer! That would definitely solve the problem. And thanks for sharing that it can also be found on Amazon. With everything going up in price, that will be helpful for people looking to purchase!

    As a knitter sell by yard. and always give an extra yard or two. Yarn chicken BAD.

    This is going to sound odd, go to a carnival and look at how the stick booths are set up. If you talk to a game owner, not the carney running the game, they will show you how the stick joins are set up and built. A 15'x15' game will fold up into a 2' x 2' x8' bundle.

      That's a great idea! I actually saw someone with jewelry at a recent farmer's market who had something that looked like a small saw horse or stool, but pegboard fit into a groove in the top.

      I do a little fiber, but I plan on expanding this year. I get a lot of questions about whether my handspun yarns are also hand-dyed, so I think I'll do more dyeing in the future. My 23-pound bump of Polwarth/Silk is on the way!

    As your chicks grow keep an eye on your Leghorn. They can bully smaller birds.

    • @dirtfloorfibers
      @dirtfloorfibers 2 года назад

      This is my first time with chickens, so I can use all the advice I can get! Even with less than a week of growing time, the stripes down their backs are getting darker, as are their heads, so I think they might be the green eggers after all. The Tractor Supply lady said if they are Leghorns, I'll be able to tell in a couple weeks because they'll grow so much faster than the other ones. So far, everyone's about the same size!
