We have yet to paddle around the whole island as it would be about 14 miles! Our favorite is to launch at Mercer Sough and then paddle out to the north end of Mercer Island for a stop at Calkins Point and back. We haven't seen any significant currents in the area yet, being a lake, but winds can definitely be significant, especially if it's north / south direction. We like to paddle in mornings when winds are less than 5 knots.

Not Ala Spit overnight, Cornet Bay Boat Ramp just north. Bring Discover Pass as this is part of Deception Pass State Park. There's also an additional overnight fee. Last time I went it was approximately $10 per night

It's about 3 miles so about an hour of straight paddling, longer if sightseeing along the way. Check lake level before you go at link below. We like to paddle when full or near full. It has been low this year to date unfortunately www.usbr.gov/pn/hydromet/yakima/yaktea.html

Lake Union or Lake Washington? Of course in lakes no tides or currents so main things to watch for are wind, we like < 5 knots, boat traffic, and cold water shock for which consider a wetsuitbor drysuit. We like paddling along the shore as that's where all the interesting stuff to see is anyway, and it's safer. Hope that helps. Have fun.

@@PresenceVideography I am heading to Kachess Lake early in the morning. I do the same on lakes, I stay within 150-200 yards from shores for safety. I grew up on water and am a great swimmer, but cold waters can kill quickly no matter how good swimmer one is. I do not wear any wet suits , but of course I always wear a life jacket. I paddle solo since few friends that I got are not into water sports.

We paddle north from Southworth along the shore and then cross over to Blake Island at the shortest channel crossing distance. Paddling this route, we avoid significant currents.

Not unusual for later in the summer, but this year it's happening even in June! This kayak adventure is definitely best when lake is full.

Thanks. Yes, currents can be strong around this area. We always plan around currents and tides, and the wind. We don't like to paddle in currents > 1 knot or winds > 5 knots. Paddling at low tide is fun in terms of stuff to look at but be sure to check launch and pullout to avoid mudflats or long walks over rocky beaches. For currents we use deepzoom.com. Agreed, we use deepzoom.com/ to check currents and tides, and stay well away from Deception Pass. We also check winds and prefer to paddle in less than 5 knots, but not more than 10. Wetsuit or drysuit recommended. Be safe out there.

@@PresenceVideography Yes the video you link is much better for me especially when the camera zooms out a bit and you can see more of the kayak as it moves through the water and over things under the surface. The sequence from 1:25 to 1:30 in the linked video is what I mean, I really like that view. 1:55 - 2:05 is great.

It truly is some of the clearest water we have paddled in. Feels like you are gliding over the surface especially in the morning when there is no wind or waves.

Absolutely. Nice and sheltered around the bay. There's also lots to see along the shore, especially around low tide. Karen and I paddled along the north shore of the bay, and I then paddled solo out to Charles and Long Island. I would not recommend that last part, paddling out to the islands, for beginners though as the currents around the islands can be a challenge. Check winds before you paddle. We like paddling in the morning and when winds < 5 knots. Have a great paddle. BTW another option is around Spencer Spit which can also be great for beginners. I also did a paddle nearby on the San Juan Island side through Cattle Point Narrows past Goose Island and currents there can also go higher than 3 knots so careful planning is essential. We hope to visit Lopez Island again soon. Such a beautiful island, and so many amazing kayaking trips still to do.

Love the 360 vids, and the regular vids too. I'm moving to the PNW soon and I'm excited to get a long touring kayak and get out on the water!

Agreed, nice to have an automated way to take complete smooth 360 pan. We also like the 3D effect you get from the drone moving horizontally around the POV circle vs rotating at a single point.
