Shooting Arc Guide: How To Get Good Arc And Why It's Important
Просмотров 6 тыс.2 месяца назад
Getting good arc on your jumper is one of the most important parts of shooting a basketball. The more arc you get, the higher your chances are of making each shot you take. The less arc you get, the lower your chances. Proper arc gives you more room for error. In this video, I show you the two parts of your shooting form that influence arc and how to tell if you're getting the right amount. 0:0...

    I’m almost sure that the non-planting knee valgus / internal rotation (“caving in”) is simply the fact that it helps him stop more quickly to get set for his shot. Everyone does it to an extent; like when they run lines.

    The wide stance you were asking about it acts as a shield if you can picture it the defender can't get around to block his shot because he's shielding with his left side and MJ always squares himself in the so the angle he comes off doesn't matter because once he jumps he squares up and locates his target

    MJ shot changed with time. In the 80's, the ball was on the right and not as high with respect to the head. He changed a lot his shot between 1988 and 1990

    I believe the knee caving in is less so about his balance on the floor, but more about where he is after the jump. You'll notice when MJ is in the air before the release that he's realigned with basket. Most of the time when he's going left or right, he has to readjust in the air instead of on the ground. Shooters these days will do a hop step to realign before going up for the shot. To be honest, I feel like this is just what worked best for MJ as he could for the most part, outjump his defenders. So making the readjustment in the air isn't a real problem for him.

    i think wide step before the shot is to counteract the momentum he is carrying before taking a shot

    U can’t take the cave in on the opposite knee without taking the weight of ur body. So, it’s not really a cave in, it’s a natural balance of the body on the jump.

    i just want to say my opinion if kobe bryant was playing in the era of m.j. he wouldn't have succeeded even half because in Jordan's time, basketball was much more difficult, they didn't whistle for the slightest foul in the NBA. In general, it was more difficult, there were tougher players and with much more talent and not Plaka's Center and they played much better defense. Kobe Bryant had the privilege of being on the best team with the best players and the best coach from almost the beginning of his career while Jordan worked alone and won his first championship at the age of almost 30. I don't agree that kobe was the closest thing to m.j. because simply, as Phil Jackson stated, he taught him the movements of m.j. he was not as good a defender as m.j. let's not forget that if they played together in the same season there would be no kobe because he wouldn't be able to copy him. and of course it is no coincidence that m.j. that i wish i played in kobe's era. imagine m.j. with Kobe's team, the roster, I mean with sacks and the players of the series, what things would he do!!! and of course he admitted it after both Jackson and Kobe retired that Jordan was much better because beyond the numbers he was a leader!!!

    I think the knee "caving in" is to help counter the inertia of his body moving in that direction, so that his jump is well-balanced and straight up rather than drifting to the side.

  • @iam_geyed

    The wide leg stance seemed reasonable when considering both him and Kobe always kicked the right foot out in front on those kind of shots. It was likely used to assist in turning their waist on the lift to get square with the basket

  • @muziqaz
    @muziqaz 12 дней назад

    I think the reason why his non planted foot knee caved in, was to stop the body momentum. So he is dribbling to the right, if his right foot didn't cave in the way it did, his body would continue to float to the right as he is taking the shot. It is easier to shoot if you are elevating up instead of up and to the side. Because he always had this insanely quick first step, he needed something extra to stop that momentum before the shot. Caved in knee seems to be logical explanation

    The knee cave is a counter to the left/right lateral movement. On camera, it looks normal, but he's moving very fast and stopping on a dime to get the defender off balance and transitioning into the jump shot. In other words, he's creating separation from the defense.

    Kobe used to hop because when you hop you don't have selected the pivot foot and kobe just was a beast in pivoting so he hop and if he didn't shoot according to defender he selects his pivot and move.

    Another thing to consider is the grip. I know there was a section that mentions this word, but it didn't actually talk about grip specifically. From what I can tell, Jordan would hold the ball with all 10 fingers firmly gripping (i.e., he was double-palming) during his shot form, which most players can't or don't do. I've tried this in my own game and it helps massively with consistency and accuracy. It's also how he was able to maintain his form even after taking his guide hand off the ball. At some level he was basically throwing the ball into the rim, as opposed to lofting it up and over.
