PC AC4 Tooz vs Exorcet (No Sound) | July 2024
I’ve played/owned all the Armored Core games since the first one on the PS1. The look of the game continues to improve and feel sharper, cleaner, more vibrant. I think the idea of PvP is okay, I guess, but I prefer in-game bosses and AI exclusively. I played PvP with someone else (on the same console) and that was okay, but… remember AC Arena? That was challenging! The “hard lock” is nice, but distracting when there are too many enemies on the screen. I don’t know if forcing players to manage their reticle would make the game better, but it would definitely make it more “classic” Armored Core. I am disappointed in the lack of extensions, weapon arms, and genuinely tough armor. Heavy armor should act more like heavy armor. Also, the older method of mapping out an unknown area disappeared, and the HUD is also missing. I relied heavily on those; I have to waste a lot of time in some cramped areas, playing through it again and again because it is very, very confusing to learn my way around. One wall looked like the next; openings were hard to discern; it was impossible to just blast through walls (which was a feature in other cramped spaces in past AC games); and the scan feature didn’t make it easier by illuminating/mapping doorways or exits. The markers were of limited value. As I turn, the markers move, so fixing their position was difficult for me. The HUD immediately told me if they were up, down, left or right. I missed that dearly. AC6 is fast and loose; flashy but a tad unrealistic. There was a given logic in other games that I couldn’t find here. Some weapons are actually useless; some are good in very unique circumstances. Though there were maybe a dozen great weapons, most of the inventory is just a waste of space. I relied on a dozen or so (after going to NG+ and NG++) exclusively. I guess what bothered me the most about this game (which I enjoyed, overall) is that it limited me and FORCED me to play in a given style in order to be successful. I like sniper rifles and FCS parts that allowed me to shoot from far away. I also like weighing myself down in heavy armor and hard-hitting ordinance and then slamming my opponents with a very satisfying smack down. Here in AC6, I just… adapted. I was told when the shot was coming my way (usually) and I had an automatic “hard lock” on my opponent, so… it was about learning the timing and finding an effective weapon combo that worked for me. The story was much better than other AC games of the past; however, I think they could have done a better job with choices and pathways; a more convoluted branching and the ability to change sides from one faction to the next would have been more realistic and offered many more optional bosses and circumstances. Once you took a given mission early in AC6, you were on a path you couldn’t leave. Future choices were automatically swept away. Yes, playing through three times answered the “what if’s”, but I think it would have been better if new enemies and new parts and etc. were all available and moved around in the successive games, in order to keep the game and the plot fresh and lively. There’s a lot more I could ramble on about, but the music… ah man, the music in the first few AC games was awesome! I would have loved it if the older tracks were played during missions. This game seemed sort of… lacking here. The commentary from other pilots was distracting; the pulsing vibes from the old soundtracks was invigorating!
I am salty about no gun arm parts. This is my biggest disappointment
I am an old fan and Armored Core was my first game on the PlayStation. I love AC 6 and I hope it grows from this point again.
So I've been dying to play AC for the longest time. When AC6 was announced I went through the trouble of setting up emulators for AC2 and AC5. I personally don't know where the "old" fans are coming from. I hate the old style of gameplay. I was almost hesitant to try AC6. I'm glad I did though because in my opinion they fixed everything I hated about how the older games felt and controlled. Sorry not sorry.
So, the PVE experience is probably the best one so far. The PVP experience, though, so far feels the worst of the last 5. Debate me in the comments if you want anyone, im always open to new ideas. (Im limiting it to AC4-AC6 as i have only seen playthroughs of the older titles.)
the short answer: nothing
You should make an 8 minute version of this video as more people would watch it.
I think the movement feels great but the lock on mechanic works poorly, making dodging two dimensional. I like hard lock because I prefer a controller and can’t control flight, quick boosting, and managing 4 different weapon types and turn the stick. Carpal tunnel no thanks. However simply strafing or spamming quick boost was never enough to dodge attacks in the past. Now it’s turn faster than the bullets can keep up with or stay just out reach the whole time. Or be so heavy with such high punish assault boosting is the only thing you have to do. Especially with the range on the shotguns
0:42 not anymore, and the Lore of Armored Core 6 is NUTS!! ❤
now that's a lot of whining about nothing
Nothing went wrong
I called AC6 the best for new players cause most people of gaming of today is not the same as before. As a lot of new gamers don't want to put effort in games, now. It depressed me how Armored Core became cause of the newer gamers.
What went wrong? Nothing. - an ac fan since ac1
Hopefully AC6 is only an introduction to new fans to revive this series, where the next one onward is where they would return to the traditional AC gameplay.
I hope they got back to the old style of AC. Using this game as, like a form of easy first steps for new players like my self before putting us in the big pool. So-to-speak. (Edit) i think hard lock is a necisary evil. But only in PvE. Hard lock should not be accessible in PvP. Hard lock PvE is nessicary because of the age of armored core. The fanbase could be comsidered a endangered species by the time armored core 6 was revealed. Fromsoft HAD to get new fans to come and STAY, and overloading them with data and hardship wasn't the way to go. If they didn’t do this armored core 6 would be as widespread as it is now. We can only hope they take off the training wheels for the next game.
3:35 ahahha 🤣
I can't wait for mecha break it doesn't do the same mistake to a existent
Really works!
Despreatly hoping i can get verdict day , i love ac6
Side note about auto lock, i was looking at tips for ayre fight because my main gripe was she was creampieing me out of camera, then one reddit comment was like you know there is an autolock, justdont touch your stick. I was like deadass? Beat the boss in one try after. I was like really?? How can something that broken be allowed, even if its sp lmao
What's the music at 11:58, when the net-code example match plays?
Waves - Armored Core 2: Another Age OST
Thank you for gathering all these opinions! As a newcomer who just bought the game yesterday, and it is my first Armoured Core, hearing out the vast array of opinions allowed me to read between the lines and adjust my expectations while going in for the first time (which I am just about to do! it is almost downloaded :D) I always play games once there has been a good deal of patches, basically when I start seeing patches become minor and further apart. Usually I would wait longer for something like AC6 but 1.07.2 seems like a good point to enter on
Don't worry, I played since AC3: Silent Line. The old "Community" was just like a half dozen people playing at week end with some house rule tourney. Don't mind about these old guys rambling with old rose tinted glasses. Try the game and do stuff in it. Welcome and just have fun. Ignore any elitism that start feels like toxic. Something like "It's not Armored Core game" or something like that. Its not many of them anyway. The old game got too much skill curve that potentially lowers new player retention. That, with also those old games still aren't really properly balanced anyway. Like that Karasawa laser gun being banned for PVP again and again in multiple games. I think lowering the skill requirement to invite more people to have fun, is a worth trade. Armored Core is my comfort game. I love to mix and match the parts and spinning the mech in my garage to stare at it. Thats what a mech game should be IMO. Doing some pew pew and mix and match another new idea of cool parts combinations. It might fits with your taste too.
@BEZEL_fA's succinct take probably it one of the major point for this gen. Simply comparing it to old games isnt the best approach imo and a change needed to happen to get people in the door which it succeeded in. The stagger mechanic has promise but is too easy and also too punishing for PvP, it forces specific builds in order to compete without getting steam rolled which hurts enjoyment in AC vs AC scenario.
also, 13:45 hard lock actively makes your shots less accurate. it makes it easier to see them, but your shots will be less accurate.
That just depends on your range, the weapon’s effective range, your FCS, your headpiece, and the arms you equip. “…less accurate”? Well, given how fast the enemies can shift position, I’ll take the hard lock over managing the reticle and just be careful about the the parts I cobble together, and the weapon(s) and distance. As far as strategies go, that seems to work.
The only thing I hate about this game is the overly restrictive invisible walls.
The only thing I hate about yhis game is the overly restrictive invisible walls.
I’ve been playing AC since the first one. Yes, I’m old enough to remember being super excited for AC2, lol. I agree with some of your mechanic assessments (like boosting interrupting some weapons firing), all in all I feel like this game is a natural progression. The AC games have always had small (or sometimes huge) evolutions. I never play PvP, so I am probably not as opinionated as most. Ultimately I’ll just say how relieved I am you don’t have to look up and down with LB / RB.
JFC. great video!
The Cradles have fallen. Millions will die.
What I don't like about it is that it brings you completely to a halt and locks up your controls, which in any significantly difficult boss fight or enemy encounter is basically either insta-death. It's true you can somewhat minimize the lockup by blowing your pulse armor but that can only be used a very few times. I don't mind taking direct hit damage, and I wouldn't even mind if it did something like break your current lock too, what I hate is completely losing control of my interactive videogame.
as an old gen fan I just want steam ports of the old games and more parts for core, legs, arms etc. lots to pull from
Most of these "good vs bad" critiques seem to me to come down to, "it's not the same game as the previous games, so I don't like it. From Soft needs to do what they did before. More of the same, please." Honestly, these critiques were super shallow and don't consider a lot of details, both in lore and mechanics related ways. AC VI is NOT a Dark Souls clone with a skin. That's about the dumbest opinion I have heard about this game yet. The balance can be a problem, but this ignores that literally every single multiplayer combat game has both a skill curve and a meta. You can't entirely blame From Soft for that. The main cause it the internet stifling player creativity. Had there been the large community there is for this game on the last, there would have also been problems. Oh wait, there WAS a meta and balance issue on 4, 4A, 5 and VD. Yall just somehow forgot.
Somehow, the debuff with aiming was completely missed for autolock.
game was quite diffrent comparing to older ac types, imo story line was somewhat positive asspect but we used to previous games to slogan ,,its just a job" and we are tool in it and there only buisness of other factions anyway i was hooping for soulslike game than misson based gameplay and main issue here game was too easy for veteran of ac games, in previous generations, firing an entire magazine with Gattling Dual Arms could completely determine the profitability of the mission, moreover our poor economy and resource management could lead us to early game overs due to bankruptcy, i totally miss it
Yes, money management was definitely more of a factor in the older games. I remember being forced to use laser weapons against opponents with strong anti-laser armor because laser weaponry was much cheaper than bullets and grenades! Or, I had to slowly work my way through a section, making every grenade and shot count so that I didn’t waste a penny! This game made it much easier to deal with finances; I think that it might have affected the S rating, but I’m not certain.
56:32 this one hits home for me. Started with masters of arena as well. He liked ac3 which makes sense to me as i didn't really care for the ac2 limiter release on the generators. Ac4 though i do love it i will say it was a bit to fast. Though ac6 power management i don't really care for either. And fcs/ range of engagements kida sucks. If they got rid of hard locking, changed power management to the old style and fixed fcs/range engagements i would still be fine with current aiming and turning.
Multiplayer wise they could legit expand on it and add a weekly war map style perhaps even with developers or clans being able to manipulate and create operations.
One of my big nit picks is also how the generators stop producing power just because i am doing some actions and have that delay before initiating a recharge. Kind of an anoying mechanic in my opinion. Probably hurts light builds the most. Yet energy weapons are kinda buffed because they no longer have a power draw.
I really really like the idea of one of the other games being able to hire another player to join in a co-op missions. Co op in general would be nice.
I've just come back to the game to play as i set it down as well upon initial playing it. I definitely miss the old fcs and movement mechanics. Though i guess the movement wouldnt translate very well to mouse impute. Still story mode has been enjoyable just started my 3rd play theough. Goes realy quick after the first playthrough. Still think Ac4 was peak. But this was decent. Better than 5.
Have never seen anything like this Masterpiece!
Unfortunate that none of the top dogs of Enders, Vagrant Guns, Vanir, Unknown Unit, or Vanaheim were in this. I'm interested in their perspectives.
I still think AC6 is pretty great, just not as complicated and skill intensive as previous titles. My biggest dislikes would be the stagger mechanic, if they only utilize this on bigger scale boss fights with difficult but abusable weak points, it would be cool. And then the auto-lock, yea AC games don't need this, but I can understand why they implement it, without this, the game might be too unforgiving for new players.
Least violent UNATCO operation
Anybody acting like multiplayer matters at all in AC is kidding themselves. The RAD enemies in the campaign look terrible, a lot of the tech in the game is too magical/fantastical. Coral is dumb fantasy crap that doesn't belong in my mecha game. Stagger mechanic doesn't belong in a mecha game either, at least not in the way it was implemented, stagger in previous AC games worked fine.
Played the first ones on PS1, and quit after armored core 2 for PS2 came out. AC6 got me back into the series!
One of my favourite games ever and the best AC game I’ve played (and I’ve played every one until LR)
Soft lock is actually more accurate and consistent at hitting shots especially if you use your fcs correctly and have good weapon specialty but the skill required is a lot more
My biggest fear is that when we inevitably get AC7, they're just going to multiverse away 6, because Fromsoftware refuse to do true sequels anymore. The campaign in 6 was *BY FAR* the best part of the game, and it left me wanting to see SO MUCH MORE of this reboot version of the AC setting. But knowing From, they're just going to ignore it moving forward and leave the questions unanswered, and that generally pisses me off with this one.
What I don't like about AC6 1) Not enough AC parts. 2) Supposed to be fast but projectiles are way slow. 3) Not enough AC pilots in Campaign. That's it.
