excellent little set
@@alansystem I’m glad you like it! Do you have something you especially like about this set?
If you can find those lateral wing plumes I would definetly buy them for 4 bucks/euros to complete the knight. They look great with Dragon plume on top
@@DUNDOM5 You are absolutely right! I also could’ve just borrowed the wings from a Dragon Master’s helmet for the review. 😅 But, unfortunately, that simple solution didn’t occur to me prior to making the video. 🤪 Which ones do you think looks more rad? The Black Knights helmets or the Dragon Master’s?
oh my god RUclips shorts have polls? thats surprising
@@coolcola5828 I discovered them myself just recently. 😄 I’m experimenting with them a little. Speaking of polls… do you… a) find polls in YT shorts annoying? b) like polls in YT shorts as a fun interactive feature? 😂😂😂
@clipbricks8811 definitely find them as a fun interactive feature. maybe because I have literally NEVER seen a poll on RUclips shorts recently XD

OG Lego king
@@DUNDOM5 Can’t argue with that! 😄 He’s got the bling to prove he’s da king! 👑
The 80'-90' lego faces are much Better
They have a charming simplicity while still featuring little additions like bears, , hair, eye patches or glasses. And they don't go in for exagerated facial expressions.
On january first there will be new CMF wolfpack member (Wolfpack beastmaster with wolf).
@@DUNDOM5 That’s great news for the Pack! 🐺 The figure is looking good with the cowl and cape! Let’s see what accessories it comes with - what’s your guess? Crossbow? Shield? Sword? Spear? Halberd? Bow & arrows? A wolf?
@clipbricks8811 New minifigure has longsword, shield and pet wolf. A lot of Lego youtubers already did review on new figure.
@ Ah, great! Gotta check it out! Thanks for the hint! 👍 Sword, shield and pet wolf… what else does a renegade need?! 😁
Ahoi
"Ahoi" to you, mate! 😊
I freakin' loved this set! I had this one as a kid. The wolfpack faction definitely didn't get enough love from LEGO. Really hoping to see some more sets with this faction as LEGO revives more of the older themes.
Yeah, a revival or tribute would be awesome! At the same time, maybe it's part of the charm of the Wolfpack faction that we didn't (and to this day can't) get enough of them?! It reminds me a bit of certain actors in movies that are beloved characters because they have little screentime, but rocked so hard that they've made a lasting impression. For example, Michael Keaton in Beetlejuice, or Heath Ledger as the Joker in The Dark Knight, or Jeremy Bulloch as Boba Fett in the Original Star Wars Trilogy, or Zoey Deutch as Madison in Zombieland: Double Tab. I checked out some of your videos on your channel and sub'd. Great content - for young builders especially! Keep up the good work!
Love this set. It was the first set I ever owned. I was lucky enough to see it in the vault while on the Lego inside tour. Keep up the good work. Love the channel
@@seancons Thank you! It's lovely that you can remember your first LEGO set! I can't seem to remember my FIRST one, but certainly the first one that impressed me most: The Black Monarch's Castle!

@@f0rtress-z7r Thank you! I miss these kinds of old sets, too. They had a charming simplicity to them.
How do you have 3????
@@TheEasterBunny9633 I don’t remember exactly, but I figure that I got them as presents. People rarely align their present ideas, so they gifted me triplets.😄
@ that’s cool
@@TheEasterBunny9633 Absolutely! 😊
Had this set when I was a kid and always wondered why it had black branches in the tree instead of brown to match the back panel piece. Now I’m wondering if it was intended to look scorched (possibly from a dragon encounter!)
To think that the tree was scorched by dragon fire is an awesome way to look at it! I never thought about that! 😀 If that's the case, the Forestmen sure know what happened to the forest they hide in. Maybe the forest got a breeze of dragon's breath once. Deal with that, Robin Hood! 😂
The Pirates Bounty Boat 6247 is the set your younger self was looking for: One pirate and two Imperials for $4.75. No captain :) But there is a red boat in every set to build an army of boats.
@@noxious8 You’re right! I hadn’t thought of this. A very neat little set and a nice workaround for red coat army building!
The raft is the only way to get under the drawbridge to the prison or to get the chest
@@noxious8 That’s another creative way to look at it, for sure! 👍🏻
Aw man... Castle is my favorite and I always dreamed of having this set as a kid. Never did. Thanks for sharing.
@@bricksnkids I‘m glad you like it!
As a big classic Castle fan, I think the Fright Knights theme in general was a fail as far as sets go (Willa's Windship anyone?), but these torsos are really nice for generic soldiers. Since the line in general was less loved than, say, Black Falcons, Wolfpack, or other very popular themes, it was at one point easier to get these figures in larger quantities to build up an army.
@@brucenh9076 I agree. Many sets of the Fright Knights left a lot to be desired design-wise. Many of the flying vehicles seemed too over the top. I think the Dark Lord‘s Castle, Bat Lord‘s Catapult and Traitor transport showed what the Fright Knights could have been, if they honed these designs further. The minifigures are quite nice though. You mention Willa‘s Windship… well, it’s just one of those sets that don’t sit well with many castle fans. 😅 So, yeah, all in all, I have to agree that Fright Knights was not as good or successful as it could have been because of some of the more outlandish designs. The Fright Knights are, in away, the Dragon Masters on steroids. 😂
The biggest problem with the dragon was that it was one big piece. It could only stand/sit like a dog. It could not really fly. You couldn't pose it. I never liked the dragon as a kid.
Yeah, I see your point. While the limited articulation never bothered me personally, I can see how it would be an improvement to have more articulation, for example, in the legs or the neck/head that could be turned. LEGO minifigures have seven points of articualtion: 1) neck joint 2) shoulder joint left and 3) right 4) hip joint left and 5) right 6) wrist joint left and 7) right The dragon has six: 1) jaw joint 2) shoulder joints left and 3) right 4) tail 5) wings left and 6) right Compared to MEGA Construx™ He-Man figures that have 12 points of articulation, LEGO minifigures appear quite dated and limited. But, of course, that simplicity is part of their charme.
I think i missed the part about the best thing about this castle :D I always thought the 'gargoyles' are the ears of the gatehouse (the black stonepanels are the eyes, the gate is the mouth)
Haha, that's a nice way to look at it! Thanks for sharing! It's also a great example of how good and wired we are recognizing faces in so many unexpected things. Can't unsee it now you mentioned it. Resembles at bit the 😱 emoji to me.
@@clipbricks8811 Maybe i was biased after seeing 6264
@@noxious8 Makes sense! 😄
I still got this. You are right, the lego castle line was great to be creative and make your own little storys and adventures. I thinkt there was only one yellow saddle in this set.
Ha! You are correct: One saddle! Thanks for pointing that out! I don't know why I added the second one?! So weird.😅 Come to think of it, it could be because I actually got this set twice. However, most parts of the second set got lost over the years so it could be that I automatically assumed that this second two-clip saddle belongs to this set - and did not realise I actually had a dublicate. A happy accident.
amazing set!
@@sonnigundbelanglos It is, indeed! An overall great concept executed very well. Is there something specific you like about this set personally?
@@clipbricks8811 The old colors are just amazing, I like this also on other toys like Warhammer of this era.
@@sonnigundbelanglos You're right, the color choices are great! They are vibrant and are in good contrast with one another.
Classic lego dragons are very cool. I have two black ones and one green original dragon.
True, they are a great addition to the Castle line! Which sets does your trio stem from? Or did you get them single?
I think the pirate captain's name was Roger here in Sweden as well.
Interesting! Thanks for sharing! I read somewhere that Roger is actually the first name. So, his full name apparently is Roger Redbeard. In the US, he seems to be known as Cpt. Roger. Ironically, he was officially called Cpt. Rotbart (=Redbeard) in Germany, but I've always known him as Cpt. Roger. I can't say why that is. Sometimes, my memory plays tricks on me.
We need these again!
@@skithunter8990 Absolutely! LEGO released an updated version of the Magic Workshop of the Dragon Masters line, but IMO, it would be much cooler if they just rereleased some original sets of that faction. Or even better, give us new sets in the old style to add to our collection. 😄
Amazing set, nice video. :)
@@Pecet0wiec Thanks! I’m glad you like the video and the set! Is there something you like in particular about this set?
@@clipbricks8811 Minifigs are amazing, love the helmet. <3
@@Pecet0wiec Absolutely, the Dragon Master's helmets are a great addition to any armory!
I so miss this sets🥲Great review!
@@f0rtress-z7r Thank you! I feel you! These sets have a lot of good memories attached to them for many people. Not only do they have a timeless design and great play value to them, but they were also great companions in a time most of us are fortunate to remember fondly. Nostalgia is a bitter-sweet symphony.
In my fantasy lego world Majisto is Kings Richard wizzard. I know he is Dragon Master but his minifigure looks like a good guy. Willa the Witch on the other hand is clearly evil.
Awesome idea! Yeah, he can look quite friendly in his blue attire. Especially when you don't see him accompanied by the Dragon Masters. To make him the court wizard, so-to-speak, is a really nice touch! It's like King Arthur and wise Merlin! And yes, Willa looks way more wicked in her black outfit - and of course her face print makes all the difference. These kinds of face prints are the reason I prefer the old, classic, timeless smiley face: It makes it more flexible when it comes to imagining the emotional mood and the alignment of a minifigure with good, gray or evil.
I don’t think anyone thinks Lego would sponsor someone to talk about an ancient Lego set that Lego has buried because they deem it offensive now
@@dennisthefivestarman8177 You‘re probably right. 😄 LEGO is very particular about making sure no one speaks on their behalf or makes it seem like content was created BY LEGO. I opted for the safer route for the beginning. Thus, the disclaimer. 😁 I’m curious about the last part of your comment. Where did you hear or read that Lego buried the Western theme because they deemed it offensive?
Where can I buy these
@@godofwarhammer7655 I can recommend EBay or Bricklink.
the bandit in the black suit is a time traveler in time twisters
@@Nightlordbuilds Interesting trivia! Thanks for pointing that out! I am not familiar with the Time Cruisers theme and comics, but judging from what I can read online, it seems to be a pretty cool series where the protagonists visit various classic Lego themes. It reminds me of the SNES game Turtles in Time or the Playmobil audio cassettes featuring Professor Mobilux and his sidekick travelling through time to visit knights, pirates and cowboys, among others.
Your lego sets from 90s are in almost perfect condition. Did you even play with them when you were a kid? Or did you revently buy sealed sets?
@@DUNDOM5 Thank you! Indeed, many of my sets shown on the channel are in good condition. Not all of them, but many. I did play with them as a kid, but I never played rough as my toys were very precious to me. That being said, I have to admit that some of my sets spent a long time in a mixed LEGO bin that I used to build my own stuff. Those sets are in worse condition (check out my Lagoon Lock-up review to see what I mean). All in all, it’s a mixed bag: Some sets are in good shape (especially those bought 1995-1997) while others are incomplete and pretty roughed up. 😄 I rarely buy new LEGO though. Especially not old, sealed sets. They are just way too expensive. 😅 The only old set I bought recently is the Black Monarch‘s castle because it has a unique nostalgic place in my heart and I only have a few parts from my original one.
Uhmmm..
@@user-um3hn3yr9y Uhmmm, don’t know what that means, but welcome. 😅
As a kid having Majisto, I always imagined him to be one of the good guys. How wrong I was 😂
@@VM-fu1tr Well, that’s the great thing about imagination: It’s all up to you. Majisto could very well be a Merlin- or Gandalf-like character. Or he could be both, sometimes evil, sometimes good. That’s why I prefer LEGO to keep the lore vague so that YOU can decide what to make of it. 😊
This is perfect. Lego could release this as a Gift With Purchase (but won’t include all those figs) and people would go gangbusters. Love how you paid homage to the building style of that time
Thank you, I'm glad you like it! Who knows, maybe we will get an updated Wolfpack set someday. I bet the Wolfpack Tower as a Legends set or as an updated version would find many buyers.
Great job on this review. Understated era of the “lion” protagonist faction. Castle was solid, that river crossing bridge was fun too. I don’t mind the juniorized crest that you discussed.
I agree, Ryoal Knights are a bit underrated (maybe because of their relatively short lived run time and limited number of sets) and their castle was indeed another solid designe by the great Niels Milan Pedersen. To me, easily among the Top 3 of Best Castles Ever. Speaking of the Royal Drawbridge: I'm gonna review this set next!
Do you have measurements for canvas?
Yes, the measurements are: 12,8 cm length 6,3 cm width that broadens to 8 cm in the middle of the length The 3 holes on each side are 0,6cm in diametre. The distance from the middle holes to the respective other two holes is 2 cm (measured from outside edge of a hole). The distance of the holes from the short side edge of the canvas is 0,5cm. Hope this helps.
@@clipbricks8811 Thx, I have this set, but my original canvas is long gone. I need to make it myself
@@DUNDOM5 Good idea, a used canvas in good condition starts at appr. 10 bucks on bricklink, so printing it yourelf is a good alternative. Added bonus: You can try different patterns and colors!
There was plain grey hat in Gold City Junction. And in other sets

Fright Knights are my fav evil castle faction (Royal Knights fav hero faction).
@@DUNDOM5 I agree, the Fright Knights make for excellent baddies! And they work great in contrast to the Royal Knights. What is your favourite set of the Fright Knights?
@@clipbricks8811 Traitor Transport, Fright Force and set with the Batlord Castle
@@DUNDOM5 Fright Force is a great army builder set, in my opinion! If you are interested, check out my review of the Traitor Transport: ruclips.net/video/1TR0TFeIs-w/видео.htmlsi=b2Q6SsqqFVpMJSK2 The Night Lord‘s Castle looks awesome (despite it being built with a lot of large pieces). It reminds me of the classic depictions of Dracula‘s castle in Transylvania with its high tower and the high ceiling hall. A great design all in all that, unfortunately, often gets overlooked. I believe if they opted for a traditional baseplate or even better a raised baseplate, it might get better reviews.
Royal Knights are underated castle faction. Boomers and Gen Z may hate them, but Royal Knight had original King minifigure and one of the biggest castle set. My fav castle faction
I agree, the Royal Knights Castle is awesome and one of the largest - if not THE largest castle of the classic era. While the Crusaders had a king (as in King's Mountain Fortress or King's Castle), they didn't freature a crowned figure, but only gave slight hints, like an individual plume or a horse barding - and the clue in the set's title. The first, clearly recognizable king minifigure was indeed the king of the Royal Knights a.k.a. King Richard. Royal Knights sometimes get a bad wrap because they had few sets and came towards the end of the classic era, with only the Fright Knights ahead. Also, the slight tendency to use more and more large pieces (for crenelations, walls, towers etc.) can already be felt in the Dragon Masters and the Royal Knights - and was even more recognizable in the Fright Knights castles and caves. All this seemed to give the Royal Knights a slightly more childish (oh, the irony) vibe that some didn't appreciate at the time (maybe because they were growing older and basically outgrowing LEGO). I also feel that the Royal Knights were a bit too similar to the Crusaders / Lion Knights. Maybe, if LEGO had chosen a different crest for the Royal Knights (maybe a lily, a rose or a crown) and added two or three more sets, the Royal Knights would have gotten more recognition. But who knows. We are here to love the Royal Knights for what they were and still are to us.

@@wagomus4323 1 🥇😊👏🏻🎉
13:18 Besides the supposed Royal Knight's plume not being properly fitted into the helmet triggering my inner demons, I recently discovered a new theory as to the identity of the "prisoner": The set is also called "Traitor Transport"! So, maybe this knight is not a Royal Knight after all, but a Fright Knight who is being imprisoned for treason and treachery. Thus, the name "traitor transport". I can picture him being a traitor who maybe deciding to switch over to the the Royal Knights or giving them information or sabotaging the plans of Basil the Batlord and Willa the Witch. Could be that the LEGO designers intentionally designed this minifigure's color scheme and armour to be sort of inbetween the Fright Knights and the Royal Knights to suggest his ambivalent nature. What do you think?
Yeah! Royal knights! best faction! :D
@@hoyer I’m glad you like them! What in particular do you like the most about the Royal Knights? Is it their majestic castle? Their style?

Thank you! Did or do you own any of the Fright Knights sets? Do you have favourites?
Nice little set. Bit odd that the wagon was made with black legos and not brown ones.
@@themadmanchannel9036 Yeah, you’re right! One wonders… Brown would be more fitting since these wagons were made of wood. It seems to have been a staple with LEGO in the 80s and early 90s to use black bricks instead of brown. Popular examples include the Forestmen sets that had black trees or the Black Seas Barracuda that albeit sporting a brown hull lacked timber coloured masts. It seems that LEGO was very selective when it came to expanding their color palette for certain pieces. Horses, weapons, kegs, ships’ hulls, door wings, ladders and chests were staples long before LEGO finally gave us, for example, a brown tree in the Dark Forest set 6079 Dark Forest Fortress. When it comes to western sets, the lack of brown bricks for covered wagons is especially weird considering that many western sets featured a lot of brown coloured bricks and elements, such as the barrels or the palisades. My guess would be that it is also a design choice to have black instead of brown, not just a production-related choice. Would be interesting to hear an official explanation by Lego for this.
Interesting. I didn't know that. Thanks for the information!
I remember reading that the original dye for brown bricks weakened the plastic; perhaps that somehow factors in?
@@clipbricks8811 In real life, Wagons were not typically left in natural wood. They were painted, so as to preserve the wood from the weather. Many supply wagons were painted sky blue, with red wheels. Cannons, Limbers, and Caisons were painted a greyish, green color.
@@themadmanchannel9036 An interesting theory. We can only speculate. I read online that "brittle brown" (an appropriate nickname) came about around 2009/10. Apparently, LEGO hat some quality issues with that particular colour due to the new dye used (like you mentioned). The quality issue (brittle, easily breaking plates etc.) lasted roughly until 2016 or -18. So, I doubt that the "Old" or "Original Brown" has these issues. From personal experience with Old Brown LEGO pieces (weapons, chests, ship's hulls, horses, 1x2 bricks and plates etc.), they are as sturdy as the other colours. I don't have any sets from the 2010s though, so I got spared the brittle experience. Back in 2003, LEGO discontinued the "Old Brown" (actually called "Earth Orange") for the new "Reddish Brown", which would become known as '"Brittle Brown" alongside its equaly weak cousin "Dark Brown". They initially brightened up the browns and greys because focus groups revealed that children like bright(er) colours. In conclusion, I'd wager that LEGO's hasitancy to use more brown bricks for wooden elements in Western, Castle or Pirate themes has more to do with creative choices by the designer to make the set look good, unique or balanced colour-wise. And/or maybe it was due to a limited color palette that only slowly expanded (be it by choice, by will of focus groups, or for production reasons). Even financial considerations might have played or are still playing a role in this as injection molding pieces in many colours probably is more expensive than keeping the colour palette small and just mass produce in these colours. That being said, I am not an expert on this subject and can only roughly relay what bits and pieces I gather online. But I like theorizing with you! Thanks for the opportunity to delve deeper into this curious subject! Sources: Howerter, R. But that's just the way it was with LEGO and I just accepted it. I had too much fun just playing. The 6 or 8 stud wide variants really opened up new possibilities. The Adventure sets of 1998+ featured cars that could fit two people next to each other. A game changer, in a way. But, like you say, you can always appreciate what you grew up with. It was all we knew, it was enough for the time being and it was still lots of fun.
@@clipbricks8811 one of my favorites is 6490 Amazon crossing. Would have been cool as a 6wide. Would be even cooler if they made the 4wide "spring wheel holder" in a 6wide for other builds.
Nice, you have three of them!
Well, all good things come in threes, I guess. 😄 If only I had three of more sets of blue- or redcoats for my Pirates theme, for example. But, I can, at least, make sure LEGO City has a good coverage in case someone needs an ambulance. 😂
@@clipbricks8811 When I was a child I had two or three times situation when I received 2-3 same sets, because there were one of the cheapest option so family were choosing them for a gifts etc (like legocity police motorbike, lego city police car and some others). :D
@@przyjacieldawida Yeah, this happened from time to time. 😅 You’d open up the gift boxes and there was the occasional awkward moment when everyone realised that they had bought the same gift. But it was always part of the fun. After all, it’s the gesture and the intent that counts most. And it was good for army or fleet building. I bet your police force didn’t have any shortage on motorbikes or cars to keep the peace in your LEGO town?! We can call ourselves lucky having the privilege to receive multiples of the same LEGO sets. After all, Lego, even back in the day, was not exactly cheap. Good memories.
0:56 I looked it up and rediscovered the name of the famous and talented LEGO designer of the Royal Knight's castle and such classics as the Black Seas Barracuda, Eldorado Fortress, Skull's Eye Schooner, Caribbean Clipper, King's Castle, Black Monarch's Castle, Black Knight's Castle and many other beloved sets of the 80s and 90s. His name is Niels Milan Pedersen!
