Surprise gift/unboxing of a Rickenbacker 1993 Plus 12 string guitar
Просмотров 3,2 тыс.Год назад
My brother enjoys music as a hobby, and a Rickenbacker 12 string has always been one of his dream guitars, but financially out of reach. After capturing my interest, I set out on a quest to obtain a Rickenbacker Rose Morris 1993 Plus as an inspiring guitar gift for him to play. It went from the long journey of ordering it from Sweetwater on 7/19/22 as a possible delivery upon Christmas, only to...

I LOVE THIS VIDEO !!! I think It is one of the best Rickenbacker 12 string videos on youtube. And here's why ... -You went to the trouble of buying your brother a work of art. -First tune he plays on it is "Mr Tambourine Man". -He spends quite a bit of time playing it acoustically. You can hear what a wondeful instrument it is when played acoustically. Most RIC 12 videos don't show that. -You clearly know you Rickenbacker stuff and explained the aspects of these 360/12 models succinctly and accurately. Bonus points for highlighting that the 360/12 1993 PLUS and the 660/12 have slightly wider necks than the other models. Some extra points .. - The Rickenbacker 360/12 that George is playing at 1:40 is a 1965 Rickenbacker 360/12 model. It was the second RIC 12 that he owned. It had the new style 360 body unlike his first 1963 360/12 gifted to him by F.C. Hall of Rickenbacker which the 360/12 C63 is modelled on. George's second RIC 12 guitar "disappeared" sometime in 1966 supposedly never to be seen again to this day. -Tom Petty is identified with Rickenbacker 12 string guitars. BUT it really is Mike Campbell who championed that guitar in Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. Most will know it is Mike's Rickenbacker 620/12 string that appears on the cover of Damn The Torpedoes - the first solid body Rickenbacker 12 string made and supposedly the next guitar built after George's first 360/12. -Indeed Pete Townshend used to smash up a lot of equipment, including Rickenbacker guitars. However, by his own admission, the first Rickenbacker guitar that he destroyed was done so by accident. Ironically he did not own that particular guitar. The positive reaction from the audience that night led him to include instrument smashing as part of his performance from then on. Keith Moon joined in .. and the rest as they say, is history. -Finally, pretty much all Rickenbacker 12 string guitars are strung in the usual Rickenbacke manner. However, there are at least two that are not. The first RIC 12 prototype, the one given to Suzi Arden, was strung in the traditional 12 string manner. I wonder if you have heard of the Anglo-Australian band "The Church". Marty Wilson-Piper is a Rickenbacker 12 afficianado. His RIC 12 is strung in the traditional manner as well. Check out some of The Church's early albums to hear examples of some of the brilliant sonic landscapes that can be created with these types of guitars. Finally, I would have extened the coffee table joke in the hand over. I would have put some cheap rubbish guitar in the original Rickenbacker case. Once he opened it and you had videoed his reaction, I would have got someone else to video you grabbing the real guitar and handing it to him. (Although I imagine your brother probably would have been smart enough to figure out what was going on the moment he saw the RIC badge on that wonderful case.) THANK YOU for a great video. May you and your brother enjoy that guitar for decades to come. Cheers from the Land Down Under.
@@karmicselling4252 thank you. The crossbracing definitely makes it sound nice, even semi-acoustically. In the video, I actually had a sticker over the RIC symbol on the case, but it has peeled up while he was opening it, so he could see it prematurely lol. The Ricks come in very nice cases, so I wasn’t sure if he would recognize it from that alone, but he didn’t recognize the case as being Rickenbacker at first. I actually didn’t know Marty strung his 12s in the traditional manner. I think of Marty every time I see an original Rose Morris 1993, which he had stolen in NYC, which is heartbreaking. EB157 is the serial number, and I keep an eye out for it.
Never thought I'd hear a rickenbacker user mention they're from bellefontaine. That's where I grew up. There's not much of a music scene there.
@@PageandPlant4Life not sure how long it’s been since you have been back, but they have completely restored the interior of the holland theater, and they get some good music and entertainment gigs in there now like Roger McGuinn.
@Jeffcatbuckeye I'll have to check it out. I'm not too far away. I just moved to Marysville 🤘 cool video, btw
You have impeccable taste- the 1993 is a VERY hip guitar-
@@lazlomattachine8334 it definitely has a majestic look and sound every time I see it.
WOW... You are a great brother.. very nice.
Say something.
Why
@@Jeffcatbuckeye Because it is beautiful, and I am sure there are plenty of people who would like to know how you got it that way.
@@Bossmanrocks it was at the Columbus park of roses. Not my rose personally.
Cool! 👽🎻🙂😎
Hey Jeff...this is superb! You sure did your homework and thought of everything he'd need to channel his inner Pete/George/ Roger sound. A fantastic video. And your brother was blessed with an incredibly thoughtful brother. He's not going to put that guitar down. Out of the box, it's in tune! I love mine and it's my favorite guitar.
Thanks. Yea he just had it out a couple days ago. The new gotoh tuners that they put on the 2023 models have been great thus far. He tuned it up a bit more when he got it home, but it hasn’t been adjusted since then as they have stated in tune just fine since then. I’m lusting a bit after a 381/6 or the candy apple 360/6 fabgear currently has but it’s a chunk of change and I’m not wealthy by any means. The nice thing with Ricks is that you likely will never lose money on them as the maintain or gain value over time. Still a good chunk to buy one of those two though. I got a great deal on the 1993 Plus, so I’m thankful for that.
What a great video! It actually pulls together two threads for me - I’m on the verge of getting myself a 1993 Plus and last year, I surprised my brother with a Fender Stratocaster American Vintage 2. I live in California and my family is in England so my parents took it back after their summer visit. My Mum took a cell phone video of the surprise unveiling that my Dad orchestrated - a moment I will always hold dear.
Ironically enough, my brother is looking into getting a Strat or Gretsch next.
Come on Townsend……😎…..shash it….
The horror thinking about it lol
I have 3 rickenbackers for several years & cherish all 3 !
Beautiful present. Most of the family doesnt understand and really appreciate the jewel of an instrument like the Rickenbacker. Wish a had a brother that gave me one.
Yea, unfortunately the family isn’t real keen on what it is, but at least the brother is, and that’s what really mattered. I managed to snag a nice barely used deluxe reverb for Christmas for him as well. Pricey, but I received great deals by luck and persistence. We live in a rough area so it’s a shimmer of joy in this blue collar area of rural Ohio. He loves it.
What a great gift! Complete with JangleBox and all the goodies! Wow what a wonderful brother you have.! Heck you can even play the darn thing! Welcome to the Rickenbacker club!
If you are getting it, you might as well get ALL of it, so you can play it how you want. Luckily, I got a good deal on about every item to absorb some of the cost. Well worth it in the end.
It doesn't come in a vintage case. I wonder if the regular 1993 comes in a vintage case.
They only made 100 of the original 1993’s in the mid 60’s so it likely came with a vintage case. Personally I like the standard cases more as they are more form fitting and protective.
Heartwarming wholesome content ❤
What a wonderful gift for your brother. I actually just got my first Rickenbacker this week , a 620 six string. I know he will enjoy this forever.
Actually if I got a 6 string down the line, I’d like to get a custom built light show 331 style or a customized 620/6 just like this blueburst one with checkered binding. www.reddit.com/r/guitarporn/comments/7btj7b/my_favorite_inanimate_object_customized/? Don’t even mention the 381….I’d love one of those too.
@@Jeffcatbuckeye My 620 is the midnight blue. Love it.
Sounds great unplugged! What a nice present to give👌
Yea, the crossbracing on the 1993 Plus(and the 360/12C63) really makes them wonderfully resonate even unplugged. It had a little fret buzz strumming it hard in the video, but it’s since been accounted for. I may upload better videos of it in the future with the janglebox, and more of the Ric-O-Sound, which is really cool to experiment with.
Beautiful
I am indigenous Montagnard Jarai I love this roses
Do you have an updated vid on how these look today?
I do not. The park of roses actually removed their antique rose garden unfortunately.
@@Jeffcatbuckeye oh ok thx for letting me know! That’s sad they removed them!
@@imzadibeauty I agree. It’s very unfortunate. The rest of the park of roses still exists though.
beautiful rose. Have you grown this yourself? Do they spray these roses where you are filming?
Beautiful Upload friend. keep it up. Thank you for sharing this to us. Greetings from Korea
Is this really Earth Song? The habit seems too lax. I used to grow Earth Song a few years back. It seemed more upright than this.
How can i have that?
I bought one yesterday and I just potted it, they need to be on the ground because the roots are big too big for a pot; looking forward
Сегодня вечером мой супруг нашёл эту розу в каталоге на весну 2022г. и мы решили заказать её ради красоты цветка,ничего подобного мы не встречали! Спасибо за видио.

Beautiful!
I have Baron Girod de L'Ain Rose and i would like to know the best way to trim them. I a Girod so to me this is a special rose
Great job Jeffcat!
Wow, very beautiful rose.
boring
This is by far, my favorite rose of all time. I bought one about eleven years ago and was so satisfied with it, bought about three more the next year. Then I decided to transplant them all to make a hedge. It didn't go as well as I liked. I have looked for several years for some more with no luck. Tonight, after almost giving up, I found four bare root ones at Menard's for $4.98 apiece. I am so happy! This is a great rose!
many thanks for this vid. i've just acquired this rose for a hedge and am happy to see it's exactly what i hoped for. somehow, no matter how many 2D static images you see, the way the plant looks and behaves is hard to see. this bit of film is better than any still image.
I'm here in Columbus and I think I know this exact plant. It's massive and absolutely gorgeous! What a pleasure to walk through that park.
This rose has a very peppery scent and the whole plant including the stems smells of this peppery fragrance. almost thornless. Color of the roses and the foliage blend beautifully with other plants.
beautiful
