I have the same uv and just fed up with it . The brackets like you say are the wrong way up because when you take of the front panel the light wants to fall out. Also same issue as yourself the uv light doesn't always come on. So going in the bin tomorrow and getting a dd uv 10w. Fed up of sub standard products in the hobby 6:09 . Redsea products are the worst though in my personal opinion.
@@paulsmith744 thanks for the comment. The UV is not the best but works for me as I leave it alone. I should probably change the bulb. Red sea products are ok but overpriced so plenty of alternatives
Hello! The tank is very nice 😊 Can you share the tank sizes in cm? Thanks
@@bencedeak9609 yeah it is 150cm x 61cm x 61cm
@@fatttymcladThank you! 🫡
How are you going with the tank now? any problems arisen? I am looking at getting a new tank soon so it would be great to hear how it is doing 3 years later

What is the green coral called please
@@New_Zealand_rugby the big green one is green star polyp (known as GSP) started from a 1cm square piece. Nice to see another rugby fan!
@@fatttymclad it looks lovely is it reliant on good light what do you feed it. Yes the family love the rugby
@@New_Zealand_rugby just whatever is in the water, been lazy with water changes and all my soft coral seem to grow well. I tried it a few times lower down and this time I put it high so it gets lots of flow and light and it's gone mad
@@fatttymclad ye look great and grown well from when I did one of your other videos going in to town tomorrow see if they have any and gonna get a pulsing Xenia
Would the water from the sump affect the uv?
@@Zokkii it has been in like a year and still seems to work fine. I need to change the bulb but moving house soon so will do it then. Might even plumb the tank return through the uv
Hi great video I just bought the Vecton titan 850 having a problem with the outlet side just keeps leaking just like your one will the PTFE tape help Thanks
@@bullet7866 PTFE is always a good idea I find. Also just trying to get the screw perfectly aligned before tightening
@@fatttymclad Thank you for your message I just rang TMC they are going to send out a seal kit replacement. I didn’t use the PTFE tape but I will give it go as they are sending out a replacement seal kit I have aligned it up so many times but it’s not having it won’t stop leaking. Seal is not cracked the thread on the pipe all good.
Hi bro please size of the tank?
Hi, it's 5ft x 2ft x 2ft
Would you recommend the maxspect lights or would you go for something else?
I would highly recommend them, my brother has just got some as well. For the price I don't think they can be beaten as the closest competition was around £100 more per light by the time you get the brackets as well
@@fatttymcladthanks for the reply i have just ordered the same tank in white coming in June I have the reef flare bar atm but didnt realise it was blues only I like some white in my lights personally the maxspects can been changed to white right? Hopefully I can sell my old tank to raise the funds for these lights 😁
@@fatttymclad I have just ordered those lights mate 😁👍🏻
Yeah, good luck with that! I starved three before I quit trying! Actually had one eating but a mean ass Yellow Tang killed that one? Go figure?
Yeah my purple was a bit of an arse. That one has now died for now apart reason but was fat an no signs of bullying or disease. I am moving house this year so will introduce one when I redo the tank
How is your CBB doing today? Good news I hope?
Hi, unfortunately I found it dead a few weeks ago. No apparent reason, as it was eating well and swimming around well with no signs of disease. I will try again with another as I don't think I did anything wrong, it was just one of those things. I am potentially moving house so not putting anything new in until after that to save on aggression and risk of loosing stuff etc
@@fatttymclad I’m sorry man. I’m fighting the same thing with one right now myself and refuses to eat everything I throw at it.
Try the paste and brine as it worked really well for me, also if you can get live copepods or brine etc they will happily go through the tank eating that. Also aptasia was good, I had mine for like a year until it died but not sure how old it was and how long they live, but might not have been that
@@fatttymclad yup. Ive already tried blood worms, mastick, brine, and copepods. He certainly goes around eating those all day. He was eating live brine but the last couple days now all he does is spit it back out. I’ve got black worms on order so I went to the LFS today and picked up a bunch of pods so hopefully that’ll hold him over. Dude literally swims though a cloud of brine shrimp and looks at me like where’s my food lol
On my first tank I only used uk sea water! Collected off a pier in the south. My tank never looked so good! I got a new tank and decided that I didn’t want to go and collect it anymore so I got an RODI and some salt mix. My tank has been gash ever since. Will be starting again with only sea water soon!
Yeah I am potentially moving house this year and I am changing my job so should hopefully be able to collect and store enough to go back to natural
@@fatttymclad ahh nice one! It’s definitely the way to go. I never stored it (stupidly) as I thought it might go bad or something 😅 but this time I’ll fill a few 20l jugs. I only have a 20g so that’ll keep me going for months. Good luck mate!
Nice looking tank bro. Happy birthday!
Cheers
i would put a clip on that uv incoming pipe and increase the pipe size
Yeah I need to dig one out next time I am faffing in the sump
Looking good. I just bought the same pump also to replace Jacod.
Yeah I am really liking it. I cleaned it out yesterday and adjusted the flow to clean the sanded better
Just got a 2nd hand one for a Discus tank. Matt from East Sussex.
That chromis is big
Yeah they are doing well , I have had a few of them 4 years now. Great cheap fish
❤
I have 2 return pumps on a 180, with a vecton 600 off each return pump. They work better if you have ALL the water traveling through the UV(s) and simply turn off the UV when food passes through. I noticed you didn't cut off the hose tail barb. So you're not getting optimal flow through the unit. If you use 1 inch tubing, you cut off the levels of the hosetail barb beneath 1 inch (or whatever size tubing you run). So you're not forced to use the smallest piece on the barb. Those barbs are meant to take 1/2" all the way up to 1¼" tubing. I'd use bigger tubing, at least 3/4" and cut away everything below the 3/4" and clamp it. Personally I use 1" off each return pump. You're seriously limiting the unit the way you have it installed. You can also order replacement barbs and elbows to start over. Do NOT touch the crystal sleeve over the bulb with your fingers btw. That unit will NEVER clear up your tank running at such a liw fliw rate. If you're using it for algae, the unit can support 600 gal/hr. Ro eradicate algae, you want a faster turn over rate of your tank.
Hello, just set up my new marine tank and these guys are on my to-get-list cus snowflake eels arent for me. 2 questions, 1 does he eat flakes or pellets? And 2 they seem to grow quite large so i was wondering if they make a lot of waste. Thankyou very much😊
Hi, not sure if they eat frozen and pellet but I would imagine they do. I feed mine on frozen but I have an auto feeder put a tiny bit it twice a day to make sure the fish get on. It doesn't seem to eat huge amounts so wouldn't have thought it would make a lot of waste
Congratulations 👍🐟🐠🐡
nice tank, what is your LFS called?
Thanks, it's called Phils Corals facebook.com/profile.php?id=100063496815685
I think some softie tanks look amazing .. one of my tanks is just soft corals
Yeah I put some leathers in that are growing well so quite happy to let them all grow out and add more mushrooms and other softies
I have the dc version and I agree it is a really good skimmer. Easy to tune and to take apart for cleaning. I love the fact it cannot overflow if the sump level gets too high.
👍🏻👍🏻
Would you still recommend this? Im looking to buy a roller and this seems the smaller sized one i can find that looks decent.. ive just cut all the baffles out of my sump to get a mat in lol
Yeah it works really well. New they come with a flex pipe for easy installation but mine is hard plumbed. Could be a pig to change the roll if it goes all the way through so I just staple the new roll onto the end of the current one and pull it through
@@fatttymclad in that case its either this or the clarisea gen 3 🤔🤔, i like the reefmat but its just to big lol
I would look at what has enough capacity and what will fit. Would be worth looking up some more reviews for them. I am sure either would be fine
@@fatttymclad i am making my own sump i have already cut my baffles out as it was a sock style sump and will never use the ato so customising it as I type lol, si either will fit but i just want to try have enough room left for a skimmer section, small ref section and then my return section but also want best value lol. Its hard 🤣🤣
Notch the screen frame
Yeah I might do at some point but the little lifter part doesn't bother me. Was more info for people about to buy that tank that they might have to do something about it
Do you recommend these lights? I have a Kessil a80 and want to upgrade 😮
Yes mate I do. I know a lot of people really love the kessil but for the money these are great
Very helpful as always, just a quick one where on the north coast of Kent do you farm your water as I'm in the same sort of area.
I usually just collect it and let it settle for a day. I am also on. Orth Kent coast. If you want to just buy natural water then Phil's corals in Margate sells it
@@fatttymclad brilliant info thank you. I'm also on north coast of Kent myself and about to just set up my first marine tank and was in 2 minds if to use sea water.
What is the model of the roller filter? Is it large or medium?
Hi, it's a bubble megas one and it's suitable for tanks up to 600l. It's pretty big in the sump
Thanx buddy
What is your tank size?
Is it bubble magus ARF 1(size-large)
It's a 5ft X 2f5 X 2ft tank. Book says 425l on top and 75ish in the sump. Yeah I thinking it's the mark 1 large. I got it second hand in my local shop
Awesome job I'm getting one for my 6 foot tank hopefully he will be ok with my moorish idols and reagal tang
Mine got a bit hassled by my purple tang but I saw no aggression from my regal tang when I added it
What’s the noise like on this?
Could you have it in a bedroom?
Once you get the pipes tuned with the return pump they are very quiet. I have mine in the living room and I have slept int there a few times. I would say more noise comes from the return pumps and skimmer etc than the pipes
Great video.. what have you got sticking out of your skimmer?
Great video I just got the gen 2. My question, i have set the water level to the line of the roller. Same as my ATO sensor. Then water level drops as the roller gets clogged. ATO kicks on but has a auto shut off to not overflow. Duetto ATO. For a nano. But my system is 270g now. Should i changout the ATO for a larger system one? Or just let the roller do its thing
A big system like that then the ATO putting some extra water in wouldn't matter as it never does in mine. It would all depend on the flow rate for if it's big enough. Only ever used this roller so not sure how other ones would perform
Thanks for sharing the update mate. Enjoyed it. 👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed it
Just brought same light
I have this one also, never running a tank without UV again; it really does wonders. In fact I love UV so much that I am adding another one, adding Aqua Medic 36W UV.
Thats great mate! I'm glad you do it this way. There is a lot of controversy out there regards natural water, but you cant get better than the real thing for your fish and coral.
great video as always ... i have 4 different pairs at the moment the only one i have which is very agressive is my lightning maroon
Thanks. I am sure I have heard maroons can be aggressive, my brother had some and they got territorial over his nem
Thank you for video
Hey, how are u finding the maxspect jumps? Are they any good?
They are great, seem to grow things well. Got a bit noisier then when first brought but it's just because I need to clean them out
Hi I am very new to this hobby set up my first marine tank last year and it crashed. I am on with setting it up again but I am worried about cycling it will natural sea water help I live on the north east coast.
I cycled the tank with natural sea water and some Dr Tim's and put the fish in the tank within a couple of days of it being set up as the previous tank cracked. I have gone away from the natural for a bit as I did a big water change and the parameters were different but I am planning to do a mix of natural and mixed together to make sure the salinity is right
Are you running those at more of a white light? Or just fir the video
I run about 40% yellows and one of the blue channels has white light in it but still looks blue on camera so I had a DD lense on the phone. Makes the video pretty much match how it looks to the eye
How far off the water are they mounted? Can you share your settings?
I will post up video going through my settings in the next couple of days
Can you post your qr code?
what is your tank height and light distamce to water surface?
The tank is 2ft X 2ft X 5ft and lights are around 10 or 11 inches off the surface
Just an update on these. Tank have been running over 18 months as I still have all 10
Is there anything, in your experience with the chromis, that helped with them not killing each other?
I think adding them together and regular food. I feed frozen in the evening but have some flakes or pellets go in at 9am and 9pm. Also I am a fan of swimming room for the fish
Yes..!! Ive been in the hobby for 10yrs now and i always just have soft corals, cheaper, easier and way less maintenance. Funny thing is when i have guests they ignore all of the other corals and only ask about the pulsing/pom pom xenias
I liked the idea of going pro with sps but unless you have loads of cash or loads of time it's very hard to do
Happy wife happy life especially in reefing.. 😂🤣😂🙏🏼
Yup, just make sure they never find out how much you spend
What tank size is it and what lights do you use?
It's 5ft X 2ft X 2ft. Spec sheet says 425l on top without rockwork etc. I have the Maxspect jump 165leds 2 of them. Might be a bit under what I need for a 5ft but with careful coral placement they work well
