Hey this is looking pretty good! Will you be tabulating stats? And you guys are clearly all pretty experienced with these rules/equipment, so it gives us a look into what the sport could look at with high level play once players have learned how to "exploit" the game. What do you think about a "no on-2" rule? You've likely discussed it at length somewhere (podcast, etc.) Maybe someone could direct me to a specific episode/post?
No on 2 could result in more mistakes and a loss of creativity. Maybe testing no on two on first possession
@@MrIvanluke I see what you’re saying. I think grand scheme it would give defence a better chance and lead to more rallies. Yeah probably just first possession would be smart…reduces side outs by making defence easier; on future possessions it could actually reduce rallies.
Hey Ezra! Most recent episode of TRP 🤟 Stats for this final 26% Double Faults 16% Aces 36% Sideouts 20% Rallies 2% Out of Bounds
this was my first time playing this rule and equipment
@@jaredbeaufait5954 Woah! Coulda fooled me!
Great video, I love having the analysis and to see a few of the crucial points in the games. Good job guys! :D
Are these the Rookie-Balls?
Rally balls made by Spikeball
net touch at 2:37 is brutal no call
? it was called
@@scottbeeksroundnetI was fried sorry 😂
@ I’m glad this is what content you turned to in those moments 😆🤝
looks like there's more touches and rallies. Hopefully the experiment works!
Nice
I didn't think there was something lamer than pickle ball, I was wrong
Keep up the testing!!
Appreciate you man!
This looks great! Better than the last rally ball video, so you have to think it's at least partly coincidence, but those highlights looked to be an improvement too, so this is definitely a step in the right direction. How many games to 21 is this footage extracted from? Do you know of any condensed games with the rally ball/rule changes that I can watch? Any insight on how difficult it is for players with smaller hands to generate spin on serves?
@@ezracampanelli7888 you have to remember that the last rally ball highlights were just highlights from 3 games to 15 - also in the last video there was a lot of touches that were not converted and therefore not included in the video Both days the data looked similar - 25% aces, 20% double faults, 25% sideouts, 30% rallies (just a few more of these rallies were extended rallies vs just a two possession rally) These games were also to 21 so therefore more points played and more good content - don’t take all the footage at face value until you see all the data for when we do our testing week in November I’ll do more condensed games and stats when we do the testing week when the purpose of the video is different, for now I am just uploading to document the day for myself and allowing people who are interested the opportunity to watch (I don’t have time to do more than that rn)
@@ezracampanelli7888 and you can still cut and reverse, even with small hands. I see women with tiny hands cut and reverse with a pro ball when people have said that it’s not possible with such tiny hands. It’s a little bit harder, but it’s all about technique, same thing with a larger ball - also jams and drops and in general variety will be a lot more important with the bigger ball vs just having a wide range, good spin and a quick trigger time in todays game - which also adds another layer to serving which is great for the future of the sport.
@@scottbeeksroundnet 25% aces is more than expected :o
@@umutrenk1857 a lot were bad touches, or bad recovery sets Only 1/4 were no touches
Ben savage I believe
Whos the one in orange?
@@umutrenk1857 yes, Ben Savage, one of Florida’s best, super solid all round player.
And just when I thought my serve was looking good
Ughhhh Scotty be banging
Looks a bit similar to the game we know, mostly in a good way (basics don’t change). A lot of lipping up and booms looking worse made for longer rallies I felt like - don‘t know if that will really survive longer bouts of training though. 2 Questions: - Do you think bigger ball alone will make enough of a change in 4 months training‘s time? - Did you have Intermediate players/women‘s players play with this for longer? What was their feedback?
1. No, definitely not the rally ball due to the problems every ball is sport is currently 1. Inconsistent feel and texture, 2. Reliant on air pressure, 3. Weather dependent - if a bigger ball was made to address this issues as well which also helped the gameplay, that could be the solution alone, otherwise a rule or two may also be needed 2. Only premier(pro)/high contender players on both the male and female side tested it during this round of testing There is not a a huge imbalance of the statistical makeup at the intermediate/low contender level
@@scottbeeksroundnet thanks for the answer <3 Yeah just off of feel I‘d also think that currently the statistical makeup of Intermediate/low contender isn‘t super different. I just wonder whether/worry that at this level ppl could struggle with set consistency (even you guys looked like you were) to a point where it gets a lot less fun. But I‘ve never used the rally ball so no idea 🤷♂️
@@Musikcheckerpro I recommend testing it out and then seeing what you think (any bigger ball, it doesn’t have to be the rally ball) 😌
emerson doesn't have his crocs in sportsmode😢
@@wc_schuessle he says he is better when they aren’t in sports mode…🤯
Looking at this replay I don't feel like the bigger ball helped to create more rallys. Most of the defensive touches you've made were from a bad sets which probably would be fixed if people play with this ball more often.
@@paperbag3373 - Increases Rallies and Defensive Touches - Decreases Double Faults - Decreases the quantity of aces while still being possible A larger ball does this by: - Taking a larger % of surface area on the net = less range for hitter and therefore less range for defence to cover = more defensive opportunities - Slower Velocity = larger ball moves marginally slower and gives more time for defenders and receivers to react therefore increasing quantity of defensive touches and opportunities for rallies - Less trajectory available as a hitter, you can still hit high and low, but mindless booming in out of system hitting situations are now much more likely to be touched by the defenders due to the weight and size of the ball
@@paperbag3373 take any example in this video and I will explain to you how the larger ball made it easier for the defence and harder for the hitter 😌
Revol is the answer... !
What about moving the serve line 50cm back? Or will it become too difficult to score a break?
@@sambeard4428 doesn’t impact the fundamental issue of hitting It would just mean less aces, more/same quantity of double faults and then more sideouts (1,2,3 put aways)
This and one bounce rule fix the game. It’s a blast.
@@Gepettosguild not a fan of one bounce unfortunately as it’s too weather and field dependent - having said that, we may still test it next during one of our testing periods
Cench🔥🔥🔥
Huge fan of the bigger ball and possibly bigger NHZ(or so Ive heard). Definitely a move in the right direction for roundnet. How did you feel about it?
@@MatthewLoyed_roundnet I have not tried a bigger NHZ yet, but I have concerns about what it will do to the mixed/coed part of the game - which I honestly feel is an incredibly unique selling point for roundnets growth over the coming years (Do women keep the current NHZ or also increase, what do we use for mixed/coed then etc) I also have a slight concern about the number of injuries and hinders occurring due to the number of dives occurring because of the footwork demanded for the hitter increasing with a bigger NHZ The correct big ball *equipment* (not the rally ball from Spikeball) might be enough to see a dramatic improvement alongside maybe 1 or 2 *rule changes* in my opinion based of all the testing and discussing I have done this year
so hyped!!
Jé Gagnon shirt too😏
That vieww
Last clip looked like rhe same guy hit it twice in a row. Is that allowed in this game?
@@nicholasgearhart7597 soft touch rule - you can touch it again if you touched it on the way up on your first touch
i think the game would benefit from moving the serve line back by another foot or so. aces are a part of any game that has serving, but they just aren't fun to play or watch. making it a little more difficult would lead to a higher rally percentage and also raise the skill ceiling for those who want to continue to improve their serves
@@lucasbradley7074 serving is not the issue. Hitting is. Changing the service line just decreases aces and increases double faults, the sport needs to reduce aces AND double faults and massively increase rallies, and by making hitting harder, it solves all of those issues.
They shouldnt allow feints during serves. Same thing as a PK in soccer or a serve in tennis. Its too unfair on the defender and ultimately leads to less competitive gameplay.
@@pocketoniofficial this is not true. Again, serving is not the issue, hitting is, which has caused serving to be elevated to such a level Also, one of the players with the most aces at the world championship this year did not do any fakes and still won.
Those fakes are unique Scotty!
@@Pinamejeff appreciate you man! Based on the counter theory to the principles of serve receive😌
@@scottbeeksroundnet Is that in one of your videos? I haven't heard about the counter theory in the serve receive videos I have watched.
@@Pinamejeff will be released to the public soon, currently is just on my Patreon as clinics I have done this summer in Europe Trying to find the time to edit it and use more pro examples in the coming weeks
That looks impossible to counter. I didn’t know people did this competitively. Very cool!
@@jamesp1289 it’s very possible, but requires a very high level of footwork 😊

This game looks super fun, but I’m so unsure of the rules. Have an idea where I can get started?
Just getting into the game, get a standard net and there lots of resources to learn now to play

Should the ball travel a certain height before you can serve it?
The ball can travel in any direction, but must travel at least 4 inches before being struck
