High tank toilet was a main feature of this powder room. renovation but we packed the small room with a lot of other features. We extended the pedestal sink edge profile to the tiled wall with a ceramic chair rail accent line. Fittes tiled vent cover on the floor, grab bar toilet roll holder, towel shelf with a tiltable mirror are some of the other features in this room.
Princess bathroom is coming along nicely.

After framing new wall and subfloor, we finished all the rough-ins and starting to build back. We just finished the floor tiles on top of Ditra XL membrane and after grouting it we will start the wall subway tile.
Is custom vanity worth the cost?
Просмотров 772 месяца назад
If you value maximum space in the drawer, than it is definitely worth the cost. If you look at some store bought vanities, you will find the drawers being much more shallow with a large cut out for the plumbing under the sink. We eliminate that waste of space by templating the drawer cutout after the sink and drain are installed for a custom fit and maximum space.

Patern tile with border on curbless linear drain shower floor
Просмотров 1043 месяца назад
We just installed the pattern tile on the bathroom floor with two rows of mini plank tile as a border with mitered corners.
Heated curbless shower floor in a wet room bathroom? Of course!
Просмотров 2143 месяца назад
We have the curbless shower tray with linear drain installed and the heating cable running through the bathroom floor and shower as well. After the waterproofing of the shower floor with the Kerdi membrane and taping the seams and floor/wall transitions to create a wet room floor, we are ready for tile.
We are further along with the Maple bathroom project

We already separated the bathrooms, tiled the floor in the guest bathroom and put in new toilet and vanity cabinet just waiting for the quartz countertop. All the rough-ins are done in the main bathroom and are ready to close the walls and waterproof the floor and shower with the Schluter System.

We are starting interesting project, turning walk through powder room and guest bathroom into two separate bathrooms. The guest bathroom will get new tile, toilet and vanity and we will move things around a bit. The main bathroom ( former powder room) will get a major overhaul. We will get a rid of the small hallway to gain more space and turn this into a modern bathroom - curbless, walk-in, li...

This was a great collaboration with Kate from grassrootsdesign.ca/, she did all the selections and we add our design touch on the project as well. Unique feature is the over the corner transom window on the bathtub wall to bring some natural light into the dark room.

What brand of drain do you use? The tiling on it looks spotless and I love that there is no border visible on it!
I use exclusively everything from Schluter System. All properly connected and one warranty. Mix and match of different products, specially in the shower, doesn't usually end up being long lasting, beautiful result.
@@renovationtoperfection thank you so much for your quick reply! Love your work, I wish you were in my country so you could do my bathroom 😍
Much appreciated .
What brand of heating system do you use in the bathroom? Love your work!
Thank you very much. I use Schluter System Ditra Heat membrane and heating cable. Schluter also has a nice touchscreen thermostat.
@@renovationtoperfection thank you so much! I thought it was that from the way it looked but wanted to be sure 😊
What is a princess bathroom?
Bathroom for a princess. We named the project like that based on the price of the fixtures. The same toilets are in Buckingham Palace.
how much more is the custom?
Actually, my cabinet maker (small custom shop) is usually the same price as the store bought cabinet
Thats very nice man. Great job. I like your shower drain idea. Its your calling card
Thank you very much. Yes, center placed 3 slope linear drain with the tileable grate is my signature detail indeed.
The duct the joist cavity connects to is just as dirty as the joist cavity. You can see it coming down through the floor (at 36 seconds)
I know, we scooped up half a pail of dirt.
They clean ductwork with high pressure vacuums/ air. Can clean these spaces the same way.
That is true. Thank you for watching.
what 's the thickness of plywood boar, and how do you nail it the studs? Thanks.
Hello , I usually use 3/4" thick plywood and install it flush with the face of the studs using Kreg pocket screws.
was the floor one big slab that you cut? That looks sick
Thank you. This is in heritage building - brick walls and wood floor, 1 1/4" thick maple HW strips over 2" T&G pine boards as subfloor .
Looks so clean. Great job. Can I ask you what saw you used for the relief cuts? Was it wet or dry cut? Please let me know the make and model, I would appreciate it. Thanks so much, you do great work
Of course, I am happy to share how I fo things and what tools I use. What exactly do you mean by relief cuts? I cut all my tile on the wet saw - MK Diamond 10" TX-4 misting saw.
Hey thanks for the reply. I meant relief cuts in the floor. The ones that follow the base slope. The cuts that are on a 45 going into the drain. I'm just trying to keep up with all the modern trends. I have done some curb less showers with large tiles but sometimes the tiles are too big to wet saw so I have tried using a grinder and then a montolit score saw. I will look into the MK diamond saw. Keep up the good work man, looks clean and crispy:)@@renovationtoperfection
I like that your a real dude. Nice work
I appreciate that.

How is the glass panel actually installed into the profile?
It is set in with clear shims and siliconed around the perimeter on both sides.
between you and your neigbourg there is just a dry wall??? lol
looks great :)
Thank you.
Awesome Job like Usual :)
Thank you Nico very much.
Wow
"Promo SM" 👏
dont you have to gouge out the Kerdi to keep the heat wire flush. My tile is only 1/4 inch thick plus Thinset
I am sorry but I do not understand what you mean by gouge out the Kerdi.
Beautiful bathroom, how far off the wall did you place your tub and did you use the slip in free standing tub drain for the tub? Was it difficult to water proof? I am working on a project now and you have the only video out there addressing FST with walk in Shower and Linear drain. I can't get any real world help on the matter just nay saysers. Now that you have this room does it function well, do you love it? Any tips for me?
Hello Tommy, we placed the tub 2 1/2" off the walls to have enough room to fetch things in case of falling behind the tub. Yes, we did use the island drain and waterproof it to the Ditra Heat membrane. If you look father back on my channel, you may find more detail explanation about the Schluter installs and wet room floors. Now I just post before and after videos, maybe a bit in between. I have a playlist with some tips and tricks as well : ruclips.net/p/PLdReh4RxDTc1Bog8Krnkk5j44DcJV_ev- Where are you located? Best of luck with your project.
Wow!!! such an improvement from the previous layout . Love the neutral colours and the curved glass on the shower area . Job well done !!
In a later video you say you installed a recessed baseboard heater. I wonder how that works. Thanks.
That's a misunderstanding. I was referring to the baseboard ( as a piece of trim along the bottom of the wall) being installed flush with the wall surface. I never used the baseboard heater in the bathroom.
I would’ve gladly taken it before it was redone all except for that shower
Believe me, you wouldn't if you had seen it up close.
@@renovationtoperfection yeah probably lol
But you can’t turn the shower in without getting your whole arm wet
Of course you can, by switching to hand shower. Also this shower set let's you to set the temperature of the water you like and keep it. You will never get a cold start in this shower.
Where do you buy it?
Find a Schluter System supplier near you. I bought it at Centura Tile Ottawa, ON
Can i ask how much this job cost?
This was a one day project, done in 2019. I wasn't finishing the drywall on the wall. Materials $1,100.00 , total 1,900.00 CAD with taxes in. Ontario, Canada.
Looking good Lad
too bad you didnt show the step by step process of you actually doing the work , what a let down.
Sorry to hear. I thought this is actually step by step explanation of the whole process. You wanted to see me putting the batts of insulation into the framing and driving the drywall screws?
@@renovationtoperfection Yes, it would be great. You're really helping a lot. thanks! Can you tell me what size drywall screws you use and where must the end stop? Great video!
Hi there. I am using 1 1/4" drywall screws for the first layer of drywall and 1 5/8" for the second layer. It is important to keep track of the location of the studs so the screw doesn't hit the stud through the resilient channel. That would negate the sound dampening effect of it. I do not understand what you mean by ends. Feel free to reach out to me directly, I will be happy to advise you further. renovationtoperfection@gmail.com
3" typically. And it's not that hard if it's a remodel. But I get what your tryna say 😂 plumbing is tedious
You are right, I just measured the stack. It is my plumber's department 😉. But it is not that easy to move the drain if you have to go across the floor joists, which is a case here.
@@renovationtoperfection well if the floor is open or the ceiling below is open it's not. You just drill through the joists. Missions are used for the cast-plastic connection. So yea if your using cast its a pain but cast is irrelevant these days. I'm confused as to why it was used instead of pvc
Could you have use the resilient channel between the two drywall pieces for better results?
You could but I do not think it would yield a better results. The green glue between the drywall sheets or use of Silent FX drywall is what makes the difference. Everything else complements the performance of the assembly but of its own doesn't do much for the sound reduction.
I just pinned the client's evaluation of the performance as a top comment.
So any additional green glue between the sheets ?.. sound insulation, resilient, 1/2” fire gypsum, gg tube, silent fx?
What you just suggested would be even better performing assembly than I did. Silent FX drywall is basically 1/2" version of factory made two sheets of drywall with the Green glue in between.
For anyone reading this: if you’re doing this for your neighbours party wall you’ll still here A LOT of noise using this system. You need to inject the ceiling with cellulose, install Rockwool in the walls, install resilient channel on the walls, install sonopan or any soundboard out there made of wood fiber- finally for the best results use an acoustic gyproc such as SilentFX which is a 5/8 2 layer gyproc with a gel in between. It weighs 100 pounds a sheet and it has great results. Those are my 2 cents. You can add 2 x 5/8 but I don’t plan on selling any of my properties so I’d rather save the space
Sonopan actually helps very little in reducing the noise level through the wall. Definitely not worth the cost.
You installed them upside down 😂😂
Very very beautiful work! Great craftsmanship and amazing ideas for easy less maintenance cleaning
Thank you very much. It was a unique project for a wonderful clients.
Did you put the SG on the inside of the shower pan or just outside the shower pan?
Sorry, I do not understand the question.
For this curbless shower is the Deco SG installed within the shower pan (part of the sloped area) or outside of the shower pan (the flat area of the floor).
I see. The anchoring leg of the Deco SG profile is under the shower tray tile, the same orientation as on the walls and the bench. Thank you for watching my videos.
Hi where did you get the dust separator you have in the bucket?
The company is called Oneida Air Systems and the product is called Dust Deputy. www.oneida-air.com/dust-deputy I bought it in Lee Valley Tools.
Thanks for the review. is there a way to adjust the suction? I have another similar vacuum sander but that clings to the wall with the power of my shopvac.
Yes, there is a valve on the hose where you can adjust the suction.
since you use green glue on the ceiling to wall joint, do you need to do mudding and taping on the same joint?
Yes, you do need to finish the final layer of drywall so you can prime and paint the wall.
Thank you! This is so helpful. Is using the stainless steel version worth the $? This is a place I do not want to cut corners.
I do not think so. The aluminum channel works perfectly.
thanks
The soundproof drywall is the same as two quarter plus green glue
I know. But the client wanted ultimate solution and requested this.
Do you still use this circle vacuum sander? Or did you switch to an electric version ?
Yes,I still do. I bought another set last year as some parts (plastic) were worn out and I like it even more. The big round sander now has a special pad and screen sandpaper, which is even more efficient in keeping the dust under control. The small hand sander was drastically improved and I use it a lot too. Great product.
Nice work! How do you attach your customs bench to the wallboard? Kerdi fix? Thinset? I saw in another a Schulter produced video that they recommend using a profile (ZB I think), and sometimes recommend setting the bench on a row of tile.
Thank you. I am doing the same - using U shaped profile KB- ZB attached with screws to the wall framing. Just between two of us, I am also reinforcing the front edge of the bench with another, L shaped, profile ( KB-ZW) by making a slot on the bottom of the Kerdi Board bench on the table saw and securing the profile in the slot with thinset. This way I do have all edges supported and can stand on it even before any tile gets installed. I do have a video about it somewhere on my channel. Maybe this one: ruclips.net/video/gSkknb4TeoA/видео.html
Blame the spiders, their webs are catching the dust
LOL. Fair enough 😉
How secure is the channel on the side of Wall. Is the mortar able to to secure hold weight of glass ?
The chanel is locked in place with thinset behind the tiles. It is much more secure than standard glass installation with the U channel on top of the tile. The glass installers use just the double masking tape and silicone along the edges to hold the glass channel in place.
Does the 4” return on the glass really stop most of the water from going out? Can you show an example in a future video. Thanks
Sorry for a late reply. 4" return helps greatly with the overspray of water out of the shower. I can make a video about it when we will build this kind of enclosure on the future project.
Do you ever use the deco sg on the floor and continue it up the wall? If so do they have any issues getting the glass to drop in?
Hello Andy, we did it on this project: ruclips.net/video/DHFDmo_ltso/видео.html
Well crap, I saw this too late and mine is only 11mm deep when I needed the 12.5 *facepalm*
No one shows the actual installation of the glass~!
Hello Kel, looks like you really want to see the glass being installed. If you will be a bit patient, we have a glass coming on a current project and I can shoot a video of an install for you. Sounds good?
Why didn't you show the actual installation of the glass?
Do you have a video showing the actual glass install?
