Carole Taylor: A life of service and giving back
Carole Taylor broke ground as a journalist and has never stopped since. She has always seen service and giving back as part of life, which has driven her to a career path that includes being a chancellor of Simon Fraser University and a political career as an MLA and Minister of Finance. Most notably, she introduced North America’s first carbon tax, which served as a model for other provinces and states, as well as ending the corporate capital tax on banks.

What a great interview - I'm so glad to see this topic covered! In the last few years a lot of emphasis has been on telling the stories of other communities - with a level of focus and intensity that has at times felt like the disabled community and their advocates have been pushed to the side. That's not entirely the case, but this community has advocated for so long for mobility, employment, inclusion rights - with intelligence, education and a collaborative spirit - and they should be getting more visibility and more awareness spread at practical levels (especially around employment). Liked her words about invisible disabilities and disabilities in general - it is more than ramps and washrooms, the word accommodation can mean so many other (positive) things. By the way, years ago I taught international students and they were always impressed by what they felt was Canada's leading edge around accessibility (even compared to Europe). It would be great to see more conversations, digital exposure - even on topics like fashion, adaptive clothing, sports inclusion, activity and travel inclusion that some younger social media voices have tried to bring forward but much more amplification would be amazing. Please keep highlighting - thank you to both for this conversation!

Hi carol and team. I watch your Journal on chek, because I appreciate your interview style getting quickly to a probing question. Your interviews with mayors of merritt and recently port coquitlam were so interesting to me, as news does not capture local issues. I really appreciate your show, the no nonsense get to the question of your guest. You have been a politician whos views I have not always agreed with, but that doesn't mean any disrespect. Carol you have a big brain, a history in govt, and today I appreciate the candor the show allows. Please ask to have the show extended to 1 hour.

Jim was hit with a five union strike in the early nineties that involved his outdoor advertising company in B.C. He put the call out for willing employees who worked in his outdoor divisions across Canada to help him keep the operation running, and I was immediately on the first flight. He truly treated all of those who were willing to risk the dangerous situation absolutely great. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😊
