My little shed in the desert. A place to hang, create, chit chat and reflect. General non evasive conversations, crafts and sometimes down right alphabet soup. Life in an RV, free roaming critters, daily sheesh moments, and occasional female rants.

Freeze Drying Canned Beef

In this video, I take canned roast beef, render it in a pan, then drain exceptionally well, before putting it into the freeze dryer. Shout out to Betty for the rendering suggestion, it worked perfect. The cute Gnome pad, was also her creation and I purchased it from her Facebook page. How was the flavor afterwards? Do you still freeze dry tamales?
How did all that work out? Was the texture passable?
I like how you're showing all the possibilities of freeze drying. Perfect survival or travel foods. I would love to see the results of the other items and also how you reconstruct them, store them, etc. Thanks for the video!

Suggestion for freeze drying the canned meat - it's a bit more work to do, but it might allow you to freeze dry it... Heat it up in a saucepan, then refrigerate it so the fat solidifies. Scrape off all that excess fat then freeze dry the meat and remaining sauce.
