It’s great!

I love this album. Yes, it's bleak and perhaps the band's darkest work, which is unsurprising given the LP's conceptual and lyrical content. However, the moments of hope and victory imbue it with an immense beauty. "Strange Fortune", for example, is unbelievably moving. Valor's lyrics are fantastic, as are his ventures into classical orchestrations (performed and layered by himself at Rockfield Studios) on tracks like "The Danzig Waltz" and "The Death of Josef". If I have one tiny criticism, it's perhaps that he didn't sing more melodically on some tracks, as he did from "The Scriptures" onwards. That notwithstanding, this record stand as an amazing achievement and a true piece of art.

My favourite version of this marvellous song. Like the B-side of this 12" ("The Loving Face") and both extended takes of "Church of No Return", it is sorely in need of a digital reissue.

My favourite Christian Death live album, powerful and fanastic from beginning to end. Thank you for posting it here.

Thank you for posting this here. It's high time that this version, as well as the extended "Endured" take of "Church of no Return", were released digitally. The same goes for the full takes of "The Loving Face" and "Song of Songs", as featured on the "Sick of Love" 12".

A monumental concept album. In a way, it's an LP of two halves, with more guitar-based tracks on side one, whilst side two opts for an experimental approach, enriched by orchestral instruments and classical flourishes. "Song of Songs" a. k. a. "Sick of Love" is one of Christian Death's most melodic, accessible moments, whilst "A Ringing in their Ears" is one of their most experimental, for example. It's nice to hear that the free 7" that came with initial copies has been included at the close of the upload. I thus suspect that this is the German CD version issued on Normal Records in the 1990s, since those songs were featured there, too. Pure art, that touches the soul and mind in a way that no other band can for me.

CD is by far my favorite Darkwave band and has been since late 80s..but damn this album is their worse!
