Happy Christmas. Shame about the 50p. I suppose it was considered bullion, but they've sorted you out, to their credit it always perplexes me that proof coins a, can leave the mint with imperfecta and b, some Wally out the can handle them outside of the capsule causing damage to the coin. You'd think all proof coins would remain pristine, but sadly not all humans are cut from the same cloth.

Be aware that in the UK these coins are not Legal Tender and therefore they are NOT tax free unlike Sovereigns which are.

Fractional value coins come with a high premium, so I won't touch them. If your budget is limited save your cash till you can buy a 1/2 Sovereign or bigger.

My first ever gold proof coin purchase was the 2016 Beatrix Potter. My only other gold proof 50 pence was the 2016 Battle of Hastings coin. Both of those delights appear in your collection here. I bought them as I really like the designs too. Mine remain ungraded, unlike my special year design sovereigns (mostly quintuples) which I started to collect later.

Absolutely lovely, UC. Cracking results too. 1984 was the final year of Machin portrait. I sold my 2002 2 sov PF69 and used proceeds plus another 120 quid to upgrade to a PF70. Looking forward to 2025 royal arms sovs.

Lovely Memorial 50p. Good luck with the QC on your 2025 5 coin box set when it arrives. A PF70UC grade for the quintuple would be the icing on the cake. I got my 1989 4 coin box set conserved and graded last year and the quintuple, double and half sovs all attained PF70UC. The full got a PF69UC. I kept the quintuple and sold the smaller coins. The double is also a great size to collect in my opinion though.

Nice collection. This is exactly what I am doing. Collecting all the different Sovereign types since 1817 incl. both Sydney Mint types. There are 30 different Sovereign types with the new 2025 Shield then.

Hood looking coins. Surprised that you have to send in to the US for grading. I’d thought both NGC & PCGS had at least one Europe grading place plus the local expertise to go with it. I guess not

A truly fantastic collection, UC. Admire your goals for achieving the date runs. I know full well how long it takes and how much patience is involved. It must've been a tough decision to let go a 2017 double PF70.

Super proofs, U.C. Frosting breaks will not affect NGC grading as they do not constitute post-manufacturing faults. I've got PF70's with a few frosting "faults" and made no difference.

A bit of T-Cut will have that as good as new
