Driving the Panzer 68 simulator
During the 7th and 8th of September the Ypres Panzer Crew were invited by our Swiss friends of the Militar - und Festungsmuseum Full-Reuenthal to attend their Panzer Weekend 2024 event. During the event we got a tour of the museum's fully operational Panzer 68 training simulator. The simulator includes a complete model map onto which the trainee has to drive his miniature tank.
If you are a tank enthusiast and happen to be in Switzerland, the museum is well worth the visit. It offers a large collection of Swiss and international military vehicles. The footage you are seeing is only a small fraction of what they have to offer. So visit them if you ever get the chance, you will not be dissap...

During the weekend of the 7th and 8th of September, the Panzer Crew Ypres attended the Panzerweekend 2024 event of the Militär- und Festungsmuseum Full-Reuenthal. The crew drove all the way from Belgium to Switzerland to attend the event. Some of the volunteers of the Full musuem had visited our site in Brasschaat earlier this year to help us with the WHI''s (ex- Swiss army) Panzer 68 so we ret...

It's been a while since our last video but we've got a couple of nice videos lined up taken during recent trips abroad by the Panzer Crew Ypres. In the first video we'll have a look at the crew's visit to the Zomeroffensief 2024 event at the Soesterberg National Military Museum in The Netherlands. During this event several daily runs with an assortment of military vehicles were held. The footag...
Minotaur on the move
Просмотров 11 тыс.6 месяцев назад
This video was shot during early April when we decided to move our restored Churchill MkIV 'Minotaur' out of the restoration hall to the display hall. Besides the short move to install the turret, this is the first time Minotaur was moved (though unfortunately not under it's own power as its missing the engine). Its also the first time it got some sun after spending the past 6 years in hangar I...
Bergepanzer servicing

In this video Ief will give us an overview of all the different points which require attention when servicing the Bergepanzer 2000. It's important to keep your tools in good working order and the Bergepanzer 2000 is the most important vehicle when performing moving as well as lifting tasks at the museum. Note that the first part of the video there's a lot of wind noise. Camera always captures m...
Lombardsijde Open Day 2024

It's been a while since our last video. The main reason is that we are in the process of moving all post WW2 vehicles from the Gunfire museum in Brasschaat to a new WHI site in Ypres. The new team of volunteers, aptly named Panzer Crew Ypres participated in a first event last Saturday at the Open Day of the Army base of Lombardsijde on the Belgian coast. No less than 7 vehicles of the collectio...
Fellow Churchill fanatics

A couple of weeks ago we embarked on a road trip to visit a small museum in the north of Holland. It's special as they not only have one but two Churchill tanks, a Mk II and a Mk VII Crocodile. So naturally we had to go and check it out. I was so in awe of the work done on the Mk VII by this crew that I actually forgot to film a lot, so I had to include some shots in order to explain a bit more...
The Churchill Turret
Просмотров 824Год назад
Hi all, quite a long video but it's an important Churchill restoration milestone so I thought let's show a bit more footage than usual. Mind you I started out at 1h25min of material. As said an important milestone as in this video we will try to mount the Churchill turret back on to the hull. Not an easy task with a turret that weighs 4,6 tonnes. We took our time, ensured we could work safely a...
How to fix a Renault R2067 Goelette loose gear shifter

A bit of a different video this time around. My own historic military vehicle had a problem with its gear shifter. It had a tendency to drop out of 2nd and 4th gear. In this video I'll show you what the problem was and how to fix it. Took around a day to fix (including gearbox oil change) and doesn't require specific tools. One will need the right replacement parts. Video was shot with the Pana...
Opening Gunfire tourist season 2023

Hi folks, welcome to a new Gunfire video. In this video we have a look at the Gunfire open day of April to mark the start of the tourist season. As usual we offered several dynamic demos of some of a small selection of the tracked vehicles at the museum. New in the line up of CVR(T), M113 and Leopards is the Russian T72M which was restored to driving condition. Video was shot with the Panasonic...
BACA gate guards

In the summer of 2022 the War Heritage Insitute was requested by the BACA - Benelux Arms Control Agency - to provide 2 gate guards for their HQ at Peutie Barracks. Two vehicles war selected for this purpose and prepared at the Gunfire museum. These were a former East German SPW-50PK and a former Czechoslovakian OT-65. The OT-65 is based on the Hungarian D-442 FUG. The SPW-50PK is a derivative o...

Second video covering the September 2022 Open Monuments Day at the Gunfire site. This time more traditional footage of the vehicle parade and as bonus some awesome drone footage mixed in. It's been a while since the last video but we're back. First new video is also a new format. No silent text slides but a fully narrated video instead. Sound quality of the Insta360 camera isn't that great and the narration sound levels are also not perfect but it's a start. The explanation was recorded in one go so that can be improved upon next time as well. As this is a 360 video you can use ...

Toch jammer dat Tristan zen stunts er niet op staan 😂
We zullen het volgende keer moeten overdoen ;-)
@michaelscaplis dat klink als een strak plan 🤣
Here's our third and final video of our trip to Tobleroneland. Hope you found it interesting. We for sure had a blast and hope to go again next year with more interesting videos as there's still a lot of interesting stuff at this museum!
If i had to fight in a tank in WW2 it would have been the Churchill. Thick armour and easier escape routes than contemporaries. I've always been a bit of a coward 😂
A symptom of the British Army, besides abject poverty is its historically uncharacterisic lack of inventiveness and adaptability. The Corps used to be the home of invention and thirst for innovation. It has a long history of continuous development, seeking to make best use of emergent technology. At a guess, wartime austerity and post war financial constraints, combined with preparing to fight THE enemy, rather an enemy, slowly killed the inspiration present in Cent, to the osified CR2. Perhaps we need a new study group to rethink the Armoured vehicles required to: deal with enemy direct fire platforms; suppress or kill massed enemy infantry; provide close support; mobility support; kill the full range of enemy air platform and weapons etc.
Vergeet niet het refeulen van de tanks, men armen zijn der nog stijf van😂😂 Rotpomp😂😂😂
Small correction, should be 7th and 8th of September - not August as stated at the beginning of the video ;-)
Mooie voertuigen!
About 20 years ago a company called Bull Electrical sold all the old Gallium Arsenide lasers from the Centurion tank, they used to advertise them in one of the hobby electronics magazines.
Regarding the question of the Swiss army strength, Rene was so kind to look it up. Die verstärkte Mech Div 11 hatte 1986 einen Bestand von 14'000 Soldaten und besass 120 Kampfpanzer, 70 Panzerhaubitzen, 10 Schützenpanzer und 2000 Pneufahrzeuge. ;-)
If you enjoyed this one, fear not, we've got 2 more videos on our adventures in Tobleroneland planned for the coming weeks ;-)
There is a Bedford QL just dumped near where I live !! It's a bit of history from WW2 just rotting away slowly .( Very dry climate here ) It's a crying shame really ! It's got a CMP rear end ! I made a couple of local WW2 museums aware of it but got no answer ! ( and a couple in Canada ! Where it was made possibly ? No answer either !)
why not donate these machines to ukraine? frankly they'd be of more use there they are just parading around no? actually asking no snark intended :)
A lot of former Belgian AIFV's, Leopards and M109's have already been donated. This is one of the few AIFV's we still have in the museum collection. The idea is to at least have one vehicle of each type in the collection.
Just noticed that I forgot to list the CVR(T) Spartan in the end credits. For those who like to know, license plate is V65693 ;-)
When I was a kid in the 1950s, there was an M-4 High Speed Tractor in a junkyard near my home. It remained there until the mid ‘60s. My dad was in the 2nd Armored and trained with Patton in California. Dad drove a half-track in this exercise. Later, he crewed 155mm howitzers pulled by the M-4 Tractor. It’s fascinating to watch your videos! Well done!
My last vehicle under my command in the Territorial Defense unit!
Definitely a beauty. Advanced design for its time, with no hull protruding above the treads. Question: Why did the Bergepanzer have to hook up to Minotaur twice to get it all the way out of the garage?
Thx. Because we didn't have enough manouvering space between the hangar and the other building - those dummy Hawk missiles were a bit in the way. Sometimes it's easier and safer to unhook and re-attach at a different angle.
🤣Sorry but that really was a Bullwinkle question...
It looks gorgeous,welldone😊
In Finland, this is known as the Marksman, either on the T-55 or Leopard platform
BTR-50 in a museum in Finland at Parolannummi in Hämeenlinna but can be seen
It's ugly, but you've done a terrible job renovating it. Thank you to the whole group that we get to see this "historic lump" move .👍
Did Spell Check change your 'terrific' to 'terrible?'
And a Pionier Panzer „Dachs“ is towing
It's actually a Bergepanzer 2. The WHI has the Bergepanzer 2 and the Bergepanzer 2000 in its collection. The Pionierpanzer is still in active use so not yet in the collection.
This is definitely a Bergepanzer 2. The boom would be far too thin for the excavator shovel to be able to carry the weight of the shovel and the weight of the excavated material. That's why the Dachs(Pionierpanzer) has a telescopic arm.
Superb job! The crew would have been delighted
I’m sure they would. It’s unfortunately still a mystery who crewed Minotaur. So far we haven’t been able to find any info on it.
Hi Mike, do we have any of the following: Hull number, data plate - Bronze, Driver's compartment; gun number; do you still have the Gearbox number? Was she always Flemish? What machine gun was fitted in the Hull? I might be able to use some of that info to start tracing her crew. What vehicle documents, if any, do you have please.
@@peterfeeney721 Next time we're there we'll check for numbers. Meanwhile I'll check my image archive if I find something. No paperwork. As Ief mentioned in the video after the Guards used it it went to the Canadians and after that no clue. During the 60-70 ties it was donated to Belgium. We do have an image of it being unloaded at the harbour before being transported by road.
@@peterfeeney721 In my image archive I've already found the following numbers: on the outside of the turret - right side: TP14043 E1105 (the 3 could also be an 8). On the gun breach ESC K and below that 5V5016. On the gun barrel (part covered by the breach): 5CWT-1-10. I'll check next weekend for the hull number plate inside of the tank.
The mighty Churchill. The only tank, what can be resist the german 88 mm gun, during the WWII.
knap werk!
Wat een gekraak en gepiep ?
When 80+ years old you are, piep and squeeck you will too ;-). Yes she hasn't moved in a long time also those are steel tracks not supported by top rollers so it indeed makes a lot of noise.
Nice
Nice
Came from the bovington tank museum heavy tank video, does this one run?
Unfortunately not in running condition and no immediate plans to restore it - though it would be a sight to see this massive beast moving.
@@michaelscaplis haha yes I got my answer as soon as you went inside the turret, glad to see it in the collection tho 👍🏽
How would the gun be removed if it had to be replaced, i take it that its gotta have its turret removed first?
The turret wouldn't need to be removed. There is a plug at the rear of the turret through which the gun barrel minus the breach can be extracted.
@@michaelscaplisI have been trying to find the answer for that for many months so thank you very much :D
@@flogger8413 happy to have clarified
In case anybody has a need for a gun that will fit into the BESA's mounting, I have an aluminum adaptor to fit a Browning MKII into the BESA's mounting.
It was great to see the team and the latest project / projects. I can't wait to see one or both of them up and running.
Exciting to see not just your Churchill project but the crocodile as well and later on hopefully the mark II. Fingers crossed they might be able to get their hands on one of the crocodile fuel trailers in the future as well!
If they manage to get the fuel trailer as well that would indeed be awesome.
Love the video! However I couldn't help but notice there's a minor error around 1:55. interior shot of a beautifully restored.. Fox! Canadian armored vehicle. Not a humber, though definitely based on it. It was a lovely weekend with perfect weather. Funnily enough in this video I've spotted my car, my wife, my children.. but not myself haha🤣
Thx for the correction 😉 Weather was indeed perfect for the event.
Bravo !!!!!!!!!
Dziękuję !!! )))))))
nice and smooth - well done the team
Slowly awakening the Churchill from her long sleep -fantastic work.
2:21 Australian military truck?, 3:25 The engine is very loud, so driving for a long time can be deafening. This is how the gearbox hums. Visibility behind the driver's wheel is good
You need to learn how to double clutch. The grinding gear change was painful
That half track is awesome. The sort of thing you normally only see in old WW2 footage
Can you play any other tune on the gearbox 😊
Ye sort em out they’re all in one box🙄….. as someone said double D clutch🤦🏻♂️
Having a truck myself which requires double de-clutching I can assure you we did that. Understand that these things are old and who knows how they were treated during their lifetime :-)
@@michaelscaplis Are you sure he was not operating the clutch brake as well as the clutch by pushing the pedal too far down when double de-clutching on down changes? Is the free play adjustment correct?
@@dukwdriver2909 hard to say it's more than 4 years ago. We can't test again as the engine block had suffered a crack while we were preparing the vehicle to take part in the July 21st parade and the Liberation columns. We used the Bedford QLB in its place (which did both the Liberation column North + South without any hickups!).
@@michaelscaplis Great to hear the QLB made both runs successfully. I think the work you guys do to keep this history alive is very important. Sad to hear about the Matador engine block. I do hope you can find a replacement as they used the same engine in many of their bus chassis too. I once saw an external crack on a Cletrac Tractor block repaired by a process called "stapling", if that helps.
@@dukwdriver2909 Thx for the kind words. Unfortunately we're just a small team of volunteers and budget is quite limited. On top of that there are lots of other projects which require our attention. I recall having seen a video on external crack repair so indeed it's possible. These days we get a lot of requests for event participation with some of our cold war vehicles and that's taking up a lot of bandwidth and we're still working on the Churchill mk IV restoration.
The 13/18 Royal Hussars had a white US halftrack on strength in Paderborn in the 60s
if You Cannot Find Them Grind Them Try Double D Clutching
Geweldig.
Perfect ambush position but once you’re spotted, there’s no way to shoot n scoot.

are you guys making an actual tank? like driveable and all
Yes we are. Actually we are restoring it and the idea is indeed to make it drivable again.
