Sakall and Sydney Greenstreet were in the film "Casablanca" as well. At @3:41 you completely miss that Uncle Felix was not on board with the scheme.... thus why he arranges to let the cow loose to derail the wedding, having a baby "swallow his pocket watch", and so on... At @3:47... which Elizabeth used as copy / setting for her fantasy world in her column. At @4:20 ahhh the better days when common people were educated.

the maker of this movie did a pretty good overview telling us about the movie however he forgot 1 most important thing about the movie he forgot the miracle the miracle of the Bells why are the bells ringing and then how did the miracle happened what was the miracle the church was fully crowded with people and then there was a small earthquake the 2 giant Angels facing the holy altar turned and faced the coffin instead and this was a sign of a miracle which you forgot to talk about

I remember seeing this in my younger days (before the Flood) and kind of liked but didn't love it. Not bad. Tearjerker for sure. Worth a watch.

I remembered this movie being shown on Christmas Day evening growing up outside of Nanticoke, PA, near where the movie is set in fictional Coaltown. Watching it as an adult allows me to see some hidden commentary on some of the dangers and hardships of coal miners in a coal town, especially the immigrants.

The Thoroughbred -- Lemon Drop Kid -- won the 1999 Belmont Stakes and was also 2000 U.S. Champion Older Male Horse after winning the Brooklyn, Suburban and Whitney handicaps & the Woodward Stakes.

This is my favorite Christmas movie. I'm actually cry watching it. My mom and I watched it yearly. This is amazing!!! P.S. I bought it last year on DVD. Thank you for giving it the attention it rightfully deserves. More people need to watch it!!! Merry Christmas to you!!

I think you are a cynic and ill educated progressive. Of course this is somewhat a WWII centric product, but you are looking at it some 60 years later and you have little understanding of the issues of the day. Most moving scene is at 3:47, where rich father thinks his son is setting up the beautiful young woman in background as a"kept woman", only to learn son has just recently married her, and is going off to war, leaving her in the care of his father.

Sounds like the story line is borderline SciFi. SciFi as James Blish and his ilk would define "mainstream" SciFi. I look forward to reading the book. I thought you did a good job. The version I saw on RUclips did not include the father played by Fitzgerald meeting his mother. That would have been aces for those who know the movie. Spoiler for those new to it. good job.

They're are lots of things I love about the 70s, but this movie, wasn't one of them. I especially hated the scene where George tries to come on to Mary with a kiss in the auto body shop after she crashes her car. I felt so awkward and uncomfortable watching it. Wow! Great presentation of a wonderful old movie. I remember watching this classic two or three times in my early to mid teens back in the 70s and absolutely loving it. Sadly however, I haven't seen it since, but may rent it on RUclips next December unless someone (hopefully) uploads it to RUclips for free in the next 12 months. I see, from having done a search for this movie a year or two ago, that this story is also available as a radio play from Lux Theater.
