I heard this song at work one day and it's stayed with me ever since.

I see many people relating the words to bullying. I would argue that it fits what the narcissist does to their spouse and children. The bullying that goes on at home, when no one else sees, is horiffic. All the while when they are in the public eye or at their work place, they tend to be the nicest person ever. These words hit hard: "We gotta dance with the devil on a river to beat the stream call it living the dream call it kicking the ladder" It's a life of hell and nobody believes you, so you stay for the kids, so they don't drown. The kids become brain washed and you truly lose your mind. I'm not talking about narcissistic traits. Many people have those, I'm talking about real narcissism, that can be undetectable at times, where you're sucked into thinking something bad about yourself because there is always a small bit of truth in how the verbally attack you, blame you, belittle you, gaslight you, lie, manipulate, cheat, and yes sometime physically hit. Then, try to leave when you are trauma bonded. For me that was because I was beaten to a pulp(daily) when I was a child. Only to get stuck in a marriage just as painful and way worse as when you were a little boy.
