Today was opening day of Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad's Spring Splendor excursion series. Today's ride took us from Rockaway Beach to Wheeler and back. EDIT: I realized after making the video that the poles along the rails aren't power poles, but we're actually used for telecommunications like the telegraph and eventually telephones.

Saturday was opening day for the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad's Spring Splendor excursion series. I had actually attempted to meet the train in Wheeler, where these excursions usually depart from, but was informed en route that there was a bridge near Wheeler that was awaiting a parts order for maintenance, and was out of service until then, so they instead departed from Rockaway Beach. Hopeful...

I remember seeing this plastered on RUclips. This was a day after my Birthday and I had no idea they were in Beaverton. Let alone a Best Buy off Cedar Hills which was 7min from where i used to live.

@@playerhatrz Oh ok, It's just that the shape of this locomotive is very similar to the Strasburg 90 if you compare the two side by side

@charlesdasilva7860 thank you! Both are Baldwins but Strasburg 90 is a 2-10-0 "decapod" while Polson 90 is a 2-8-2 "Mikado" Its also important to note the non functionality of Polson 90 while Strasburg 90 is fully functional.

For a "Coast" scenic railroad there seemed to be a disturbing lack of actual coastal views.
The portion of the line they were using for this trip started near the ocean and ran inland. The portion of the line they use for a majority of their excursions runs along the coast. I have other videos showcasing such views lol

My father was a engineer on the Great Northen I have pics of him on this class of locomotive.

It's been more common recently. Before last year, I hadn't seen BNSF for years on this line. Now I see them once a week, sometimes more.

Awesome footage! I'm aware that trains are departing from Rockaway Beach right now, but where does this train go in the end?
Last year during Fall Splendor, the trains ran from Rockaway to just west of Wheeler, where the train reversed back to Rockaway. I believe they will follow this plan for spring as well.
I did n t see the diesel on my ride last June but I heard it with that whistle

SP 4449 is one of my 3 favorite steam locomotives. Those also include SP&S 700 and OR&N 197.

They had to check the flanges, they were getting friction on a few wheelset, engineers dont like it when wheels make noise.
