Got an opportunity to meet Tia Fuller years ago via zoom. She was a clinician and gave the jazz ensemble I was in some feedback on our set because we were getting ready for the Notre Dame jazz festival that year. I asked her about this solo (which I transcribed because I was so astounded by it) and she didn’t even know she was being recorded at the time. She was just warming up like usual and someone decided to record her warm up to get something authentic. When they told her about it she was sad and made a joke saying something like “damn, wish I knew cause I would have played something wayyyy more hip than the stuff I played in that recording”. Low key felt that fr 😂😂

Tia Fuller, who played Dorothea Williams's sax, was a guest artist at my school last year. She's really good and incredibly polite, matter of fact she had a death in her family right before she was supposed to perform with us and she was going to stick it out and play for us until our jazz director told her that she should go to the funeral and rescheduled the concert.
That’s so thoughtful of your band director man. She’s so nice in person! I got a chance to actually meet her via zoom. The jazz ensemble I was in got a chance to send in a recording of us playing a couple of our tunes and she critiqued our set. I’ll Never forget when she complimented me on my solo over a blues. Changed my life forever tbh.
