Battle of the Prophets: Cherry Audio P-10 vs Arturia Prophet-5 V, Preset Sound Demo & Comparison
Cherry Audio's new P-10 is an emulation of Sequential Circuits Prophet-10, roughly the equivalent of two Prophet-5s melted together. So how does it compare to Arturia's tried and true Prophet-5 V? Let's listen to some sounds.
No talking after the brief intro, just factory presets, with nothing but a delay added to some. The first 4 on each are from the original hardware synth, so can give a head-to-head comparison. The rest don't line up as well but give a feel for the sound of each synth. Which sounds better to you?
*Also* just stumbled on this sale that Cherry Audio is having until Dec 31, 2024: pick 3 synths for $99:

M4L Device Combinate to Combine Control Signals in Ableton Live
Просмотров 10221 день назад
My first M4L device, similar to the combinate module in Arturia Pigments and other virtual synths. Takes two inputs signals, for example an Envelope and an LFO, and combines them with one of 11 functions. Very limited scope, particularly useful to those who use Ableton like a large modular synth. Download the device on maxforlive.com: maxforlive.com/library/device.php?id=11548#25128 It's a beta...

Cherry Audio Mercury-6 Presets Demo
Просмотров 5 тыс.Год назад
A few of my favorite presets from this new Jupiter-6 emulator from @CherryAudiovst . I like the sound, maybe a touch cold but that could be true to the original J6. (I've never played one..) Curious how/if others think they'll use this, esp vis-a-vis other Jupiter emulators out there. Arturia's Jup-8 is already one of my go-tos...
Arturia CS-80 vs Cherry Audio GX-80 - Some Presets
Просмотров 6 тыс.Год назад
Two emulators of Yamaha's CS-80 Synthesizer from 1977. Which is better? A few of my fave presets of each. I won't win any prizes for my keyboard playing, but hopefully can give a sense of how these things sound. Jump to 2:00 to skip the quick overview of the differences and get right to some presets.
really clever - also very generous of you too. Well done
Thank you sir for putting your time into this comparison. Appreciated.
downloaded. will have a go at it. looks fun and useful and very much a modular concept of doing logic functions on signals. so, any and all logic functions are interesting with things like this.. xor andor etc.. thanks for sharing it!
Thanks for your comment and for trying it out. Pushed up a new version a day or two ago-- let me know how it works for you. Logic functions could be interesting. Since they're binary operators, how would you treat them.. Anything > 0 is true/1, or something else?
18 percussive organ on the Arturia sounds so cool but the evolving sound on the cherry audio one is cool too!
The Arturia is more out of tune, like the original, lol.
I owned and used a Jupiter 6 from 1983 through the early 2000s. It had to be serviced and repaired a few times. I liked its versatility and the fact that it was way more affordable than the Jupiter 8. It did produce some fantastic sounds, but in general I was a bit disappointed in its lack of punch and warmth. You also couldn't change the filter and VCA sliders while playing: the steps were audible. Two other things were severely missing: self oscillating filter resonance and choice of filter cutoff was limited to 24 dB per octave, so if you need filter resonance to emphasize a certain overtone, your treble is gone. It also had zero built-in effects. It did have an ultra quiet balanced output with a transformer. That was top notch for studio work.
Good demo & skill...
Thank you, truly appreciate it
ty! have you tried this omnisphere?
Yooo is this still available for those who missed out
I got the V collection last year. Getting the V collection this year. We are so spoiled today.
But you only get like two new synths for $hundreds.
@@bengsynthmusic yeah, changed my mind, Got some u-he stuff instead.
@@busywl69 we are spoiled. I also got the v collection this time last year when it was on sale. Was thinking about u-he Zebra Legacy this year but it's not marked down any more. (I love Diva.) Went for Arturia Pigments
The 2 synths a far far away from the original. Some Vangelis songs, uses CS80 presets like brass 1 or guitar 1. On Arturia or Cherry, these sounds are vereeeeeery diferent. I need to turn a lot os knbos to meet the original flavor.
Thank you - it's good to support a charity and grab a bargin :)
Thx!!!!! Didn’t even know this was out! I bought the last bundle and got the great MemoryMode in the deal.
Thanks for reminding me this was out, and for demoing some of the sounds!
Glad the reminder was helpful, and my pleasure-- fun to dig through the sounds :)
It's a fantastic deal and it allowed me to finally round out my sole missing Cherry Audio synth. Wonderful.
Such a good deal, helped round out my collection too, (though I still have a couple others missing...)
can the GX sound like "GX-1 Solo" by The Tuss? /watch?v=_wTl-wYL0-k
Love the tuss I miss that squelchy goodness
Thanks. It's good for Ambient music?
I'd say so but depends a bit on what kind of sound you're going for. It's a little colder than a Jupiter 4 or Jupiter 8 emulator, so I might start with those for more of that really warm analog sound. (Or a Prophet 5, Oberheim OB-X, etc) Cherry Audio's Mercury 4 is a Jupiter 4, and Arturia's Jup-8 is an 8. I use the latter a lot.
Même pas demo!
I love both of them. The GX-80 has more programability since it is a hybrid between the GX-1 and the CS 80 and has a unique sound all of it's own. but, the Arturia is a much more matured instrument and has been around for quite a number of years, now at v4, with many refinements that make it sound more like the real deal to my ears.
Agreed, love having both of them to play with.
GX 80 is SIGNIFICANTLY better. Especially when you did simply having. It’s the real deal!
Arthurian is less inspiring.
cs80 v4 is as far close to original sound. i have both gx80 and cs80 i have reproduced with cs80v the exact sound of Vangelis hymn
GX-80 is more close to the original CS-80. Arturia's CS-80 is.... "different" but interesting!
Nice. Where did you get your 1 octave keyboard controller?
I totally agree with @MPHORROCKS. I owned and used a JP-6 from 83-92. Yesterday I purchased the Mercury-6 from CA and I instantly started to re-make the very familiar analog strings, brass, organs, synth lead sounds, split patches etc., exactly how I remeber it. I am so happy to have it back again. I also have the Mercury-4, which was my very first poly-synth. Until a year ago or so , my opinion, was that all VST Synths sounded pretty much the same. However, Cheery Audio has proven this wrong. Both the MC-4 & MC-6 has their own and very distinctive sonic charachter. I am so grateful to CA for bringing those wonderful instruments back, almost for free :)
Layering/Stacking the CS80 is very easy within AnalogLab V wich comes with the V Collection as well ... if you need a stand alone solution.
After comparing the prices of both VSTs it's very easy to take the decision of which one to pick.
Quirky ambient intro .. noice 🎹👍 I'm liking your choice of pieces to play in these demos. Most listenable 🔊👂
Nice demo. New genre perhaps - dark synthwave?
Maybe: ambient wave :)
@@zibikasound or maybe darkwave.
Ugh, it's dark ambient synthwave. Duh. Behind the times much?
Sounds like what used to simply be called "electronica" to me. I'm just gonna shrug my shoulders on this one because, long ago, you used to find stuff like this in the "New Age" section at places like Barnes&Noble. Heck, I've heard sounds like this out of 80s soundtracks. Genre's are useful labels so that you can try and find music you seek, but I think EDM kind of gave us an unfortunate obsession with categorization every time someone uses a slightly tweaked waveform.
@@brianbergmusic5288 just in case it wasn't obvious, I was joking. ;)
Interesting demonstration. I have to agree with Paul Jeavons. The Arturia is a solid sonic platform. The Cherry Audio is a great addition to the pallete. I used to own the original back in 1994 and it was always out of tune so comparisons are academic at best.
Thanks for the demo. I would suggest on the next one move through the patches quicker.
Please no. Not just patches he created but an art.
Good work.
I had a Jupiter 6 for 20 years and, believe me, Cherry Audio have done a fantastic job with their Mercury 6. Sweeping through the controls I suddenly get the same sounds I got from the hardware. The extra features, like layering and FX make it an absolute joy to program! Brilliant recreation of an overlooked classic synth! Internally, the Jupiter 6 is also very different to the Jupiter 8 and can produce sounds the JP-8 cannot.
That's awesome that it feels to you like your original. I love that feeling when a vsti brings back sonic memories you'd forgotten. Yeah, I totally get this can make sounds the 8 can't -- maybe as I play with this more I'll get a sense of what sounds I'd go to this for first. My first synth was an even more overlooked (but less cool:) Roland, the JX-8P. A couple of the sounds this makes feel familiar to me, trying to find if the JX and JP6 had some/any components in common.
As an ex-CS60 owner I really know the sound of this range of synths. The CS80v v4 is very much the closest. The gx80 sounds good but does not get close to the heart. It lacks the original's errors. It's too perfect. The V3 ring mod wasn't right but they have nailed it in V4. Presence in the Arturia is stronger which is important for the cS range. The CS80v just carries a better frequency range within its sound.
Lucky that you owned an original CS; never played one. Yeah, as the novelty of the GX-80 has worn off, I'm still impressed but I find myself going back to the CS-80v4. In part for the modulation controls, but also something to the underlying sound. The CS feels a touch warmer and like a more solid base, even when the GX may have more complexity. Maybe that's the too-perfect feel of the GX you're describing..
@@peterkamali I'm still in love with the Arminator 2. It's what bridging wrappers were made for 😉
