1968 Camaro Trunk Spatter Paint: 345

I have repainted my trunk to match the factory colors. This video gives a quick explanation of how to spray your trunk with the spatter spray paint. Depending on your year of Camaro, the month it was built and the factory, Chevy painted these trunks differently. My Camaro was built in the Norwood factory in December 1967, so it gets the dark gray with the white speckles.
1968 Camaro Sail Panel Tack Plate Installation: 344
Просмотров 249Месяц назад
Hey guys, I'm starting to work on some interior. My old sail panels were in poor condition and this video shows the transfer of the original tack plates to the new sail panels. The new headliner kit came with sail panels, but did not accommodate for the tack plates, so I removed the two rectangle mounting pieces glued to the new panels and replaced with the tack plates.

Do u use any type of grease on your pull lever for the kick panel?
@jjjones518 Grease.. No, but I coated it with Boeshild T-9 lubricant or you can use liquid graphite. Probably don't want to use grease. That area gets lots of debris and could gum up the cable.
Did you have any washers on the studs for the heater box cover on the firewall? Keep seeing the kit with 5 nuts,2 bolts and 5 rubber washers. I don’t recall washers when my cover and box came out. Thanks for any help
@davidbrown-55 my kit also had the rubber washers, but I didn't use them. The assembly manual doesn't have any washers except for the bottom right between the box and firewall (split washer) Not sure why, but I think it's there to prevent over tightening and smashing out the sealant.
I have a 68 Camaro and removed the fuel tank and also, by accident, ruined the mounting flange that is welded to the top of the tank. Tank is in great shaper otherwise. Anyone know where I can get a replacement flange?
There are no mounting flanges on the gas tank. The tanks are simply strapped to the underside of the trunk with two straps that bolt to the body. Do you have the original tank? I posted the assembly instructions in my 'Community' if you wish to see how the original tank should be installed.
@@CamaroRestoration I have the original tank. The sending unit has a lock ring that mounts to a mounting flange that was welded to the top of the tank.
@@geyser3445 Oh, sorry, your talking about the mounting flange for the sending unit. Ooooo... that pop off huh, well if it's in good condition, should be able to tack weld that back on. If it's rusted and need a new one, I don't think you can get one. Welding is out of my wheel house. Doing this may cause more of a problem with impacting the integrity of the tank. I think those were originally pinch welded on, so think about that too. If you don't weld, then hope you have a shop that can do it for you. There are also lots of great Camaro techs on the forum www.camaros.net/ I highly recommend joining and ask your question there and provide pictures. They love pictures. Sorry I could not help much.
I needed this. Thank you.
What kind of sound deadener is that?
Cool It Thermo Tec - It's the Super Sonic Mat that has the gray surface and is 70 mil thick. 36"x60" roll size. I put it in over a year ago and have been in and out of the car with no issues with damage, pealing, ripping from tools and such. I like it and installed great. I did a quick video of the floor if you wish to check out. ruclips.net/video/kKKJRS5o34I/видео.html
I used it because it was available at my local store and was reasonably priced and didn't have to pay the high shipping costs do to the weight. There are other products that will do just as good of job or better. I just wanted something to quite down the ride and a little heat protection on the roof, but I used the Cool It matting that has the foil skin for the high heat on the roof. I think the gray skin is just for sound and the foil skin is for heat and sound.
@@CamaroRestoration Just ordered a roll from Amazon for $77 & free shipping. Thanks!
@@way469 make sure you unroll it and put in the sun to warm up before you use it.

Thanks for taking the time to make this. Much appreciated 👍
@@jackdawlove your welcome... very glad to help
Thank you, brother for showing this video breaking my head with those springs
I used the Eastwood brand, and it softens up when it gets wet. Hopefully, you don't have the same issue.
My trunk has a primer coat of EP210 gray epoxy with gray zolotonen for durability and then the top coat of Guru dark gray and white speckle. Guru is a well know restoration paint specifically used for classic car restorations and I have no doubt of it quality. I also like Eastwood and have used the Internal frame paint, 2k ceramic and extreme chasse paints throughout my Camaro. If I get water in my trunk would have no concern about the paint, but I would have more concerns how water got in the trunk.
Amazing, thanks 🙏🏻
Very nice! Love the channel. I just finished a full restoration on my 1968 SS Fathom Blue car.
@miketuttle1138 Can you post pictures in the community section. I would love to see it. I've never known another Camaro owner that has the Fathom Blue. I assume it the original color?
@@CamaroRestoration I haven’t seen many Fathom Blue cars before. Such a great color! Mine is also original. I think I just posted a thread in the member introduction area? Ha!
This was a big help. Thank you
Great, glad the video helped
The steering box on my '68 Firebird needs a rebuild. This is very helpful. Thank you so much!
Welcome... sorry I don't have more on putting it back together. You'll have to work backward on the dismantle. Before you remove the old sleeves, make sure have the correct rebuild kit. When I purchased mine, the main shaft sleeve was not the correct size. I could not find it , so had to keep the original. Take good care in removing the original sleeves just incase.
The sleeve that came with the kit fit back in the housing, but when I went to put the shaft back in, the inner diameter of the sleeve was too small and shaft would not go in. Had to remove the sleeve and put the original back in, so double-check everything
@@CamaroRestoration Ah! Perfect. Thanks again!
How common is this ? I just replaced my seal n bearing today . In 57 years old and this is the first time I've ever had to do this.
@thelemonademan6235 i don't quite understand your question. I think most Chevy rear ends have the same method to remove the axle.
Spring goes on the bucket
@hotrodsandwrenches5536 ived done some research and not much comes up. Seem like many have different opinions. I relied on the assembly manual, and it calls out note 10 as the Lamp Assembly and I see this as the bucket, lamp and the ring already put together before attaching to the headlamp housing. Once the lamp assembly is together, you can't put the spring on the bucket, it has to go on the ring. To me, on a manufacture stand point, it would be quicker to assemble the lamp first and then just hook the spring on the ring and lock in the bucket on the screws. Otherwise a worker would have to take an extra step and grab the spring with a tool and hook on to the bucket.
Where did you get the information on the spring attaching to the bucket? Would like to know and make the correction.
Don't forget to use the 5/8 drift pin alignment tool at he firewall bushings, it lines up easier
You can put in the fuel line in after the subframe is in
Question, why would the drivers side need to be moved forward, when there is only 2 holes on top and one on the bottom? Just wondering, thanks
I had to watch my video multiple times to figure out what you’re asking about. Seems I mumble in my videos sometimes. As I was pointing at the driver side mount I said "As we (mumble)…I move forward….” I meant move forward with my dismantle, not move the mount forward. These mounts are in a fixed position and only mount one way. Sorry for the confusion.
Not sure if I want to go gloss or satin finish on my firewall and under hood. I live on a dirt road so I'm worried satin will just look dirty all the time. Gloss wipes clean easy.
If you want to stay with factory color, go with the Satin. If you want a practical finish, gloss would look great and can clean easier. Would have to paint the rest of the engine bay gloss too. Don't want to end up with two different colors like I did. Hard to go back and repaint.
Great content! I subscribed!
@@gravesgarage Great to have you here. Got lots more to come.
What connects that bracket to the throttle on the carb and "how" is it connected?

Thanks for making this video. It was exactly what I needed to know, so I could rebuild the Z-bar in my 1969 GS400.
This is exactly what I was looking for - I think most of my bulbs are burned out in my gauges on my 68 Firebird. Either that, or the connections need cleaning up.
@@ezakoske glad it helped.
Could you focus on the hinges like you did on the brake tool, I couldn't even stop the video on a hinge to look at it you moved so fast over them.
Do you just need a close up image of the hinges? Are you looking for something specific that I can help with?
👍
Thanks. What size punch did you order also? Apprec. It
@davidbrown-55 I don't remember. I'll gave to check my tools when I'm home. Working on my car today.
They are 1/8" rivets, so same for the punch. I actually re-watched my video and it mentions it in the beginning. Good luck. Recommend cleaning and painting the panels once they are separated. You'll never have this chance again.
Where did your seal and rivet kit come from? Nice work
@@davidbrown-55 I don't remember where I specifically got mine, but Heartbeat City and Rick's Camaro has the kit with the rivets
Great videos. What were the length of your original rear e brake cables that attach to the backing plates? I don’t have an original to measure and need to buy aftermarket but seems like all companies are dif. Lengths. Thanks for any help and keep up the great work.
I don't know the length, I would have to measure. The cable should be a standard length if you have a 68 or 69. If your looking on a web site that give you choices in length, then go to another site that has the correct aftermarket parts. My Camaro has drum brakes, so make sure you get the correct one that fits either drum or disc. Some web site advertise products for modified Camaros, so if you have modifications to original build and the rear end and/or brake system is different, then you might have to measure the length you need.
Thanks for this Video. I got a 69 firebird & the pedals have play right to left. I have been trying to figure out where the play came from after tightening the pedal cross bolt. Looks like I need to circle back and check/torque the Firewall bolts and check those bolts on the suspension rods under the dashboard. Thanks.
Your welcome. For more info, check out video 236 that shows the installation of the brake/clutch assembly. Have to make sure you have the rods in the correct location. Otherwise it will pull your dash in a different position and gage cluster will not fit correctly. Also, may need to rebuild the clutch / brake assembly. New bushings... check out video 224 has the clutch and brake assembly rebuild.
Forgot you have a 69', so my videos may not be that helpful, but hope you can get an idea of what you need to do.
Thank you
Welcome, glad I could help
How do you figure the hight of the pivot ball?
This installation is for a stock 327 small block with a 4 speed trans. The pivot ball does not have any adjustments, so it has a fixed height when installed.
Nice project to bring back. Not sure if this has been done yet or not, but you may want to consider epoxy coating the insides of the doors near the bottom where water can accumulate. I recently bought an older restored '67 and had to pull a door panel off to check something. I was happy to find the insides of my doors coated from the bottom to about 10 inches up. Perfect time to knock that out on yours while all the guts are out of the doors.
The video your posting on is the current condition of my Camaro. I had the entire body, panels, doors, subframe and many other parts media blasted and then painted with gray epoxy. If you look back in my videos #161A-C, shows a full video of body, doors and panels all sprayed with epoxy. Best to visit my playlist Body Panels, Subframe, Doors and Body for review.
Thanks for taking time to make these videos. I'm interested in your Rally wheel caps and trim rings - I'm not sure how to reach out to you directly?

Is that the original color? The blue looks great
yes, its Fathom Blue, original color for this Camaro. Only about 3,100 1968 Camaros had this color. Very rare.
@@CamaroRestoration its a great color. Was this car a family heirloom or have any significance to you (other than being a 68 Camaro lol) ? Great job so far by the way.
@@historyv350 Yes, my father bought this in December 1967. I have all the original paper work, protecto plate, original license plate and all other stuff. I remember riding in the back seat when I was a little boy and drove it in high school. He recently passed in 2020 and I made a promise to restore the Camaro.
@@CamaroRestoration I am sorry for your loss, but that is such a great backstory, I cant wait to see the finished product. I am also working on my own 68 camaro and that's how I found your channel.
Where can you buy this product?
Can buy this literally anywhere if you want a simple replacement. Even your local auto parts should have one or at least can order for you. If your looking for an original rebuilt one, then ebay would be a good place to start, but they are expensive. You can also go to Camaros.net forum and you could find someone who has an original that you could buy and restore your self. Or do a deep search on line and might find a used one. The one I am removing from my Camaro is an old one I replaced 25 years ago that I got at the Chevy dealership and I tossed the original. Have regretted is ever since.
where is the rebuild?
@MKOMKONNNN This video is the rebuild, so do you have a specific question? This is my original z-bar and I'm simply showing the install of bushings and pivot ball, it's that simple. See my older video 'Clutch Z-Bar Disassembly: 147' that shows me taking apart the original and video 'Z-Bar Assembly Removal: 58' on removing from subframe and engine. This is an active build, so I'm not ready to re-install until engine and trans are in. Hope to have by end of the year.
@@CamaroRestoration hey i got the other adjusting rod setup threaded rod and the square block and nut on the end and its 8 + inches long and the rod keeps on bending in the center , is that part you have 8 inches i got a relpacement dorman part 14555 but its only 6 inches . im resorting to unbending it but i think its too long and the force of the pedal push bends it ?
@@CamaroRestoration ruclips.net/user/shortsgPHAt8FIV7w?feature=share
@@MKOMKONNNN Off the top of my head, I don't remember the length of the lower adjustable rod. The model you mention seems to be a generic and the block style rod you have is made for the V6. The V8 has a solid rod with a thread tip and nut. If you have a custom engine and bell housing that didn't come with the Camaros, then you'll have to find another solution. If your working with original or reproduction parts, please see my posts in the 'Community' tab on my RUclips page. I have posted some pages from the factory assembly manual that I hope helps.
Correction, the block style lower thread rod is for the big block, not the V6
Fine job! 👍
Thank you
Is that a reproduction kick panel or original? If reproduction, how well does it fit?
It's the original. I have not done any research on the reproductions, but I have heard that some don't quite line up with the dash pad or snug up along the door as is shuts. Also make sure you know what you need in terms of options with speakers or the astro vent.
@@CamaroRestoration thank you, my camaro is a 69 AC car. I will try to find originals. Appreciate the info!
I stopped in to see how this goes together because it didn't seem right that the spring went on the trim ring holding in the bulb, but I guess that's right. I would think that the spring would go on the bucket instead of the bezel being that there are 3 screws holding the bezel on. Thanks for the help tho.
Did seem strange to me too when I was putting it back together, but there is not even an edge to hook on to even if you wanted. You would thinking the spring would pull to hard on the bezel and warp or damage it. Glad I could help
