Phil... it was doing it outside too... so that wasn’t the issue... see my earlier replies to Mike and response from Sony Europe... it’s to do with contrast autofocus... my other Sony cameras (A6500 and A7R don’t do this). The first images in my drive were done with my first camera and the ones in the car were done with the replacement which I took straight back... I have been a photographer for 25 years... never has a camera behave like this before!

Thanks... yes I really like the new Osmo Pocket... this was my first time out with it actually... great that it is so small it easily fits in your jacket or even jeans pocket... and very quick to start up so you don’t miss a thing. I was amazed actually how sharp the lens was too... I wasn’t expecting it to be quite so good. You definitely need the Polar Pro ND Filters but they snapped on great too. So yeah overall really pleased with it.

yeah i never noticed how big of a difference it would make using ND filters. totally worth the investment @@claytoncreative

Hi Mike...Yes I had this in from Sony... From f11 upwards when using A-FC the camera uses only contrast auto focus. If you are then on single point auto focus while using AF-C, and that single point then is placed on an area that has no or little contrast it will constantly hunt. There are two ways in which to solve this, because you are using a high f no. place the single point af on something with more contrast on the same focusing plain and it will focus fine. Or drop the f number below f11 and the cameras Phase detect autofocus should kick in. I have managed to replicate the issue and also the solutions.

John Clayton interesting. I guess my f1.4 setting isn’t all it’s cracked up to be then. So if I tap the screen and pick a point for it to focus on (with high contrast), you’ve been able to solve this? How do you do that and not lose focus on the subject? Where were you focused in your video with the Sigma?

Hi Mike I never solved it personally as I returned the camera... this was the workaround solution I got from Sony Europe... !!! From memory my focus point was the end of the building on the left... I was so shocked at the time I thought I must have a faulty A7III... I got a replacement camera the next day and it did exactly the same thing... so I took it back and got a refund. I did exact same test with my A6500 and FS5 at the time... same lenses... no issues at all with those two cameras so it must be an inherent issue with the A7III. Currently awaiting a BMPCC 4K !!!

Actually Mike... one other point... I shoot stills and video for a living... for stills I use the A7R... never displayed this issue at all so not really sure why it happens on A7RIII... sounds like you have the A7RIII... have you had issue too???
