Flying flexwing: Winter Wonderland in the Welsh Hills
This flight in the wintery Welsh hills was a chilly one. In fact my iPad turned off from the cold shortly after take off and I then navigated old school by dead reckoning and pilotage alone. Lots of frosted forests, black waters, and snowy hills. Lake Bala was hidden in a beautiful layer of fog. Nov 2024.

A flight over the Yorkshire Dales in bright morning sunshine. The Yorkshire Dales are in northern England and boast many spectacular rock formations, rolling hills, and a surprising number of lakes. There are apparently more sheep than people, but I didn't see either on this flight. Oct 2024. For the dawn flight, I took off 25 mins before sunrise and flew over misty countryside and into the Peak District in time to see the early morning light spilling over the hills. For the dusk flight, I landed back at my home airfield 25 mins after sunset, passing through a dark landscape lit only by strangely illuminated roads and residences, and touching down on the ashen grass strip under ghos...

Flying low over some flooded fields in the Cheshire plains. The ducks looked happy with life. Oct 2024. Note that I take a lot of care in planning a low flight, even a short one like this, scouting the location meticulously beforehand from height and ensuring that the aircraft remains at least 500ft away from people, vehicles, vessels, and structures. A morning flight around the Lake District, ranging from a 10,000ft approach from the West to a 10ft skim over Coniston Water. I think this is the first time I’ve caught on camera both the shadow of the plane and its reflection on the water at the same time. Aug 2024.
