Replace the Multi Function Switch to fix the problem, or you can try cleaning the inside of the switch assembly with cotton swabs, then add dielectric grease. Mine was worn out and loose, so I decided to replace it.

    Did u not replace the shoes on your parking brake before reassembling new rotor with new pads and caliper? I saw the actual thin shoe surface slide off of metal shoe base onto the ground when you removed the first rotor. If you engage your parking brake now, you will have metal shoe base digging into the interior side of rotor hub. Please do not use your emergency brake till this is remedied!

    Hello! I have a 2011 Lincoln town car Signature Limited. It’s at 219,000 miles at the moment. And I was thinking to do a 5qt drain and fill like how you did. When I took it to an auto shop they told me not to drain and fill because there’s a possibility the transmission won’t work. Is it true? The mechanic also checked the fluid and said it’s good and can run lifetime. I’m just not convinced. Also, the manual says to use Mercon LV but I see you’ve used Mercon V. Is it any different you think ?

    • @kacorking2451
      @kacorking2451 3 года назад

      Hi and thanks for the question. To my knowledge as long as your transmission fluid is red and not burnt or full of metal pieces you can drain and fill without any issues. I believe its a good idea to change some of the floid like 4-5qts every 50k miles to keep your fluid clean. This too breaks down over time especially since its exposed to heat. I changed my fluid twice, last time was a year ago and no problems since.

    You don't have to clean the dust pan or caliper face. It will just get back rusty when water saturates them. You're wasting time with that unless you're painting them with caliper paint.

    • @midas617
      @midas617 3 года назад

      no hay manera, si el carro es mas nuevo de el 2000-01, ford elimino el "Torque Converter Drain Plug" nada mas puede cambiarle el aceite frecuentemente durante un tiempo hasta que te sientas seguro que lo cambiaste todo. por eso es bueno ponerle un "Drain Plug" a la "transmission pan" para que se te haga mas conveniente. como cada ves que le cambies el aceite de motor, tambien vaciar y llenar aceite fresco a la transmision.

    Great video and I do not wish to insult you or criticize. The actual quart capacity of the transmission of a Lincoln Town Car is 13.5. The torque converter has a drain plug and is easily accessible through the rubber plug in the bottom of the bell housing. The cooler has a fluid thermostat internally that remains in "bypass" until the fluid reaches 180 degrees Fahrenheit so trying to drain the cooler is not practical because 180 degree fluid would scald you severely. If you are only draining and replacing 4.5 quarts then you need to realize that you are only replacing about 1/3 of the total fluid. The same sludge that is in the pan is in the torque converter and cooler. Also aluminum is not magnetic so fine aluminum "glitter" remains in solution and even passes through the filter. DO NOT USE ANYTHING EXCEPT MERCON V. Again, GREAT VIDEO !!!

    • @kacorking2451
      @kacorking2451 4 года назад

      Thank you for the great information. I like learning about my car. I was aware that this is not the full capacity, but everythign else you told me was new for me. So thanks again.

      At 5:43 you can see the rubber plug to access the torque converter

    • @robertclark2714
      @robertclark2714 4 года назад

      I researched and found that the Town Car, the Grand Marquis and the Crown Vic (Panthers) all have a thermostatically controlled fluid bypass valve internally in the radiator that does not let transmission fluid flow through the cooler until the engine is up to temperature. If you have contaminated fluid, old fluid or fluid with metal filings in it and you drain the fluid in order to change it, the old fluid will still be trapped in the cooler unless you are draining it with the fluid at operating temperature. I do not recommend draining HOT fluid but the only way I know of is to replace the entire radiator or bypass the cooler in the radiator and buy an after market cooler. I had a torque converter die and it filled my old transmission with metal shavings that looked like glitter. I replaced the transmission and I put a new cooler and plugged off the old cooler on the radiator.

    • @midas617
      @midas617 4 года назад

      @@robertclark2714 Somewhere around 2001 and newer, Ford dropped the torque converter drain plug from their requirements (decontented). so, even if he wanted to he would not be able to do it. The best anyone can do is, when doing a pan drop with filter change would be to replace the pan with an aftermarket one (which is what I did) that has a drain bolt built-in. or tap in your own aftermarket drain plug. and during every oil change drain and pour in fresh Tranny fluid. and replace the filter at the recommended intervals.
