From Morro Bay, Graham and I continued up the California coast to Santa Cruz. We were there for a couple days and were able to surf Steamer Lane and The Hook down at Pleasure Point. I only vlogged the session at Steamer Lane but we had a lot of fun at both breaks and had great conditions as well - fun (but not too big) surf, friendly lineups, warm weather and even warmer water temps Social INST...

Graham and I finally return to Morro Bay. We looked for refuge from the heat wave sweeping across California and found cooler temps along the central coast. Luckily, we were also met with sunny skies, quite the contrast from our last trip to Morro Bay where it was nothing but fog and gray skies. Social INSTAGRAM: chriskpickens TWITTER: chriskpickens

I spent a week down in Huntington Beach at the VANS US Open of Surfing 2022. It was rad seeing all the competitors battle through the various conditions that were on offer throughout the week - small waves, hurricane waves, barrels, currents, close-outs, shooting the pier - they went against it all. Graham made a few appearances and we had a special cameo from the one and only Danny Jordan. Thi...

Another early morning trip down to one of our favorite breaks, San Onofre. We spent the day down here and surfed a couple of sessions. Go Someplace | Episode 3 | BALI / LOMBOK - Backpacking and Surfing Indonesia
All i see is bumpy shoulder high kooks.
Snake center.
Are you and Graham planning to make any new surf videos?
Head north to County Line or if its huge, head south and, hit Pt Dume or kerp going south till you see a pier and the sign says Surfrider beach....aka Malibu. Lolololol😅
Its an okay wave. Only one spot to take off and crowded with valley kooks
What! Leo Carrillo without 50 guys out?
Great video, brings back good memories. Back in the day, 64, 65, 66. My mom and several friends moms would keep a campsite going in the campground the whole summer. Just change names every few weeks. The rangers knew what we were doing but since we weren’t breaking any rules it was cool, besides back then the campground was never full. They didn’t care anyway . Stayed there and surfed weeks on end. No wetsuits then and the water there stays cold! Best years ever! I’m now 75, still surfing but living in the Philippines , can’t take the cold water anymore. Here it’s 85 year round. Just right for my old worn out body!
I’m in this video!! Never seen myself surf, thank you so much!
Thanks for sharing.🌊🌲🇺🇸🌊☝️
they all suck haha
Juke wave only now and then is good
Is that Bunker out there?
Nice thumbnail. Kid at the end had the best style.
Valleys go home Lol Surfing a west facing beach on a straight South Hurricane swell
Them peelers look like knee slappers like the rollers that hit here in Texas. My mate Bucky Teethuses is a rip shredder
The Vals took it over in the mid 80s. I never seen so many kooks. There was Dan Eyes. Sherman Oaks. He was k8nda cool. His gf Topanga. And and i cant forget Chas Worth..more like Chas Worthlesss. He still rides a single fin. But the one guy i really could not stand was Stu....Stu Diocity. Had all these celebrity friends
There was a time in the mid 70's when the bottom was covered with sand..it broke with ferocity..now it looks like a kidee pool...too crowded..
😂like once every 6 years.
Nah. We need banter and humor between you and Graham. ;)
Haha. Well, we appreciate that! We need to vlog more but the surf has been somewhat nonexistent this summer and my car has been in the shop for weeks!
this is a rarity....I lived there by Tuna Cyn Beach for years and Topanga rarely broke worth a shit..really...
Yeah I’ve rarely seen it like this. We had a few good storms over the winter that lined up perfectly
nice vid, haven't surfed Leo and zeros, and county line since early 1980s. Let me see if this old fart (me) still can catch a few outside that rock and hand 5. 🙂
County is one of my favs and regular spots. Leo is such a fun wave. Hopefully I’ll see you out there!
@9:52 he had it what happened!
hey what size waves are these??
Mostly in the 2-3 ft range
Keep ‘em coming 🎉🎉.
Hoping to now that summer is here! 🤙
Strikes Back! Like Star Wars…the movie!
Yeah. And Star Wars: The Flamethrower
Been forever!
It’s not my fault. Blame the surf gods! Or Graham. It’s usually Graham who is to blame
It was the surf I swear!
Hi Chris! This is the first time i’ve seen myself surf! Thanks for capturing and sharing :) Stoked!
Rad! I'm stoked for ya! I plan to be filming some more now that south swells are back
Nice! Maybe i’ll see you out there! Hoping for a good summer 🤞🏽
@@hopelilian Me too! This winter was a rough one!
Is Leo a solid beach to learn to surf at? I know it has rocks and stuff, but Zuma and Broad Beach is too damn hectic since it is a beach break and nearly impossible to predict when and where a wave will break. I'd love to learn at Malibu since it's a point like Leo but it's way too overcrowded.
Leo is a good wave to progress and advance your surfing after your comfortable and confident catching/riding waves but I wouldn't recommend it if you're still learning/beginning. Sunset is a good spot to learn. It can be crowded but aside from the main point it's mostly beginner to intermediate surfers and it's a slower, mushier wave that is great for learning how to surf the face of the wave instead of just whitewater. Topanga can be a good spot to learn too just don't paddle out to the main peak - there is a longboarder/beginner area on the east side. Beach breaks can be tough but they are a part of surfing and over time/repetition you can begin to read/predict waves better. Every time you go out you will get better, even if you don't catch any waves. Just spending time in the water will help - building up your paddle strength/technique, learning to read the ocean, navigating a crowded lineup, etc. Sorry for the long message but hope it helps!
You should surf county line a half mile north. There's a point, reef and fun beach break and unlike Leo or the Bu it breaks year round
straight kooks
Good to see lots of sharing the waves, Malibu was really nice when I surfed there. Thanks for sharing the vid is there any more coming?
Yea, I’m well aged but I think I got my longest Topanga wave in a very long time. I’m at 10:30 in this sequence…right after the jet ski. My buddy Jake thinks you mite have shot the rest of my ride. Please lmk if you’ve got that! Either way…thank you so much for this and I’ve only watched it a few times lol
nice!

Tstreet 9 year olds, thats talent. These guys surf like old men. 🤣🤣
Most of us are old! These shoulders and knees don't move like they used to. haha
so you're 9,right?
Fun waves , avg talent but who cares its about having fun.
That's number one for me: just have fun!
All things being equal I'd say there was a surprising amount of talent on display at Topanga in this video. Of course it's crowded, show me a point in SoCal that isn't. But winter swells keep the crowd down and the needles to a minimum in the parking lot. Nobody owns topanga anymore than Rincon or lowers. Paddle out and let your surfing do the talking. I've seen people fighting in that parking lot over getting dropped in on a 3 foot wave. This isn't Pipeline, where the wave can kill you. It's an awesome wave and I think people forget that, with the surrounding environment and people who hang out there, whose 'vibe' isn't always stellar.
I second that. It can get a little contentious out there sometimes but everyone from the lineup to the parking lot spectators seemed to have a good vibe out there on this day despite a few drop-ins and shoulder hoppers. I think everyone was just stoked to have some really fun waves and get a brief, sunny respite from the rain!
Like The LA Traffic Someone Is Always Trying To Cut U Off 💯🤯
Yep. Although, I'd rather be stuck in traffic in the lineup than traffic on the freeway! Ha
Love your Videos, wondering what Airline did you take to get to Kuta? Thanks 🙂 Graham is a character, looks like a fun person to take around on surf trips. Is he on medication 💊?, just kidding 😂 you should have some kind of little bobble head made of him to take everywhere. You guys are great. Keep trippin.
Yo! Thanks for watching! We appreciate it! I’m pretty sure we flew Air Asia in between Bali & Lombok! Pretty short flight and fairly cheap (but that was in 2019 although I’m sure it’s still comparable)
@@chriskpickens Thanks for responding, actually the airline from LAX. Sorry to bother you with that Chris. I'm retired now and wanna go visit.
@@bsanto4403 No bother at all! Always happy to chat surf and travel. I believe we flew Eva Air from Los Angeles to Denpasar (with a stop in Taiwan) and Eva Air on the way back as well
@@chriskpickens Thank you so much Chris, really appreciate it. I'm always watching your videos more than others, cuz of the sense of humor that you guys have. Take care bro!
Is this a good beach to learn to surf on? I’m moving to LA next week to Woodland Hills area
It can be! (as long you follow proper etiquette) but I wouldn't start there if you're brand new to surfing. It's a point break with a rocky bottom so I'd suggest starting out at beach breaks like El Porto, Manhattan Beach or Venice/Santa Monica. These beaches have sandy bottoms and can provide a lot of white water waves for beginners to learn on
LOL…our makeup isn’t that orange! But he might cut it as a weatherman someday. 😂
Haha I'll have to ship him out your way for an internship!
Nice place ..nice island 👍
A beautiful place for sure! I would love to return there soon
is this where the pick and graham community hangs out? will there be more Danny in the future?
Yea man, jump on in the water is warm!

Steamer lane is a beautiful wave..the peanut gallery on the cliffs are brutal. My leash came undone and my board washed into the rocks.. the crowd roared everytime it hit the rocks...
Aaahhhh! Was it salvaged or just completely wrecked beyond repair?
Love it bro!
Yo thanks dude! I appreciate you watching! Hopefully next year I’ll start traveling again and be able to do some more international surf trips
As a longboarder, I would love to go out on that day. Seems like every video about streamers are scary 20ft high waves, but this one shows a fun mellow day
Yep! We had a few days of fun and mellow surf. Definitely a good time on my longboard
✔️ քʀօʍօֆʍ
Used to dawn it regularly, when there were no waves I'd drive my VW bus into the hills, fold out the bed and have a snooze. Lots of good memories. Point Break!
That sounds great! I’m jealous of that VW bus. I love dawn at Leo. Just have to watch out for War Child!
I used to surf here in the early 70s. I'd drive past Malibu zoo,and surf this place summer afternoons. Northwest winds blow side offshore with minimal crowd. 1971.
Sounds like a dream! What were you riding back then?
My very first surfboard in 1971 was a 6ft diamond tail single fin, we rode single fins, and twin fins in those days.No leashes,no longboards(even at the Bu).We used to surf up at county line, stair case, and on up to Radar Towers,Port Hueneme, and Silver Strand. I'm 66 years old now and surf everyday, I have a 6ft twin fin with a stabilizer fin(2+1)and a 6'2" thruster. Pura Vida desde Costa Rica...
