Ancient Language Institute
Добавлен 8 мар 2022
The Ancient Language Institute exists to aid students in their path to proficiency in ancient languages.
We believe that what makes languages distinct is their unique history and literature - not the methods and principles required to learn them.
Through interactive approaches to vocabulary and grammar, graded and extended exposure to comprehensible input, and accompanied by active pedagogy, students can acquire fluency in ancient languages as successfully as they do modern ones. Thus, we aim to expose students to the best materials available in order to best equip them for proficiency and help them reach their linguistic and academic goals.
We are also committed to using contemporary tools in order to help meet the great need there is for comprehensible input materials for ancient languages.

Can you read Latin without translating it into English first? Yes, yes, and yes. The Ancient Language Institute exists to do all of the above - and we'd love to show you how. In this abbreviated class session, ALI Latin & Ancient Greek Fellow Katheri...

perfect way to do it. Cheers
Every time I hear you say Beowulf, my heart breaks. It is said like /be͜owu:lv/
Has anyone yet tried to raise a 21st century child as a native speaker of Old English?
Not too hard to understand for a Dutch person who knows a bit of Norwegian
If I could afford it, I would devour every course ALI offers, beginning with Biblical Hebrew
This doesn't make me want to learn Latin so much as it makes me want to conquer Gaul.
This is brilliant!

This is amazing! Can't wait to buy this textbook 🙌
God damn it. Another dead language that I feel compelled to learn, so that I may converse with no one.
I’d like to be part of the team in some way. I’m 25 years old, born Jewish, and have been exposed to Biblical Hebrew since birth. I have been studying Biblical Hebrew for the past seven years, including four years of formal study in Israel, and I have a great passion for all things related to Biblical Hebrew.
Truth be told: our seven-year-old aspiring polyglot is literally counting the days until she can share Ōsweald Bera's adventures herself. It can't be published soon enough!
What
YES!! The way LLPSI teaches is amazing, and a similar book for Old English is incredible!
Am I right in assuming that the g with a dot above it would have been represented by the letter yogh, or was that not introduced until middle English?
The Gen Alpha need to see this
Надо же ,в старом Английском присутствуют частицы se ,seo так же как и в славянских языках .

Fat wiff 😅. Yeah good luck calling your wife "fat wife".

Meiner Meinung nach ähnelt das Altenglische dem Plattdeutschen
Mikilaba swa Voorster.
Modern English is my first forrign language and German (Hochdeutsch) is my second foreign language. I understood quite well and easy this lesson. I also could assume the Vikings (Skandinavien) origin of some words like 'wonac'

awesome stuff :)
Would it be possible to make a video with the translation in modern English because some of these where a guessing game 😂

@@TitoHabifInteresting how "that" was singular while "the" was plural.
This is great. Will you make more?
Also some Dutch in it
Who's Oswald?
The fact the textbook takes major inspiration from "Lingua Latina" makes me very excited for this. Looking forward to it!
Love it!
More Ōsweald, please! He is adorable! 🥰
Gaudeō mē potuisse huic pelliculae contribuere!
Gratias tibi agimus!
Interestingly, for those comments written in Old English, Google translate obviously can't recognize the language and does a pathetic job of translating them.
I really liked this, thank you.
So glad! You're very welcome.
We at NASA are using this to train our time travelling cadets. Thanks!
😂
Who else is here in preparation for the upcoming time travel back to Anglo-Saxon times?
If you mean that we need a resurgence back to patriotism and respect for our history, then yes.
Bit pointless reviving old English, but ditching lots of french words could be done as mostly English still has its Germanic doubles ,it would give English a better flow to it.
Ever heard of "Anglish"?
@@ChildishSoap yes anglish is something I've been meaning to look into further , find it really interesting
Why is the word for woman neuter? It's kind of odd.
It stems from the Verb: to weave (OE: wefan) Someone who weaves is a Wifmann and while anybody can weave it became associated with Women who wove mostly hence Wif became Wife (Weib in High German) and Wifmann became Woman. For a Man weaving he would be called a ''Wefere'' or Weaver.
@@MixerRenegade95 Cool. Thank you for the explanation :)
@@Elriuhilu You're welcome.
This is wonderful
We should bring back nes for no.
super excited!!

I hate to be a pain in the neck but holt is quite rare in Saxon land charters (and rare today). Why did you not choose wudu and make it instantly accessible? I mean I love this and the other video you did, I'm just wondering.
