What I like about “Stuck on You” was how Iam made the song his own by combining two different musical styles - Lionel Richie’s original and a version by the group Ekolu. I found it amusing to see how some people only knew of one version but not the other and were blown away when they heard the other version.

Lionel Richie said it best when he said that Iam’s story was one thing but his delivery of that story was phenomenal. That Iam could connect with his audience in a way that no other American Idol contestant could is what I think made him a fan favorite and eventually won him the competition.

The top 8 did songs to Ed Sheeran and Alanis Morissette this week and the first song was called Guardian by Alanis Morisette. Iam and Oliver did their duet to Photograph by Ed Sheeran also that night which you already watched previously. Iam dedicated his performance of Guardian to his Mother Lillie and that performance got him to the top 5. The following week was Disney week which is why Katy is dressed as Mrs Incredible. The top 5 each performed 2 songs which were the two you did, Lava and Father and Son. At the end of the night they announced the top 3. For the top 3 the following week was their Homecoming and also the finale week. During the finale the top 3 performed 2 songs each. For Iam those were Making Memories of Us by Keith Urban and Cool Down by Kolohe Kai. Since James Blunt was one of the guest performers that night, he ended up doing a duet with Iam of Monsters. With Iam announced the winner he also sang for his winners song I'll Be Seeing You, which was written by fellow American Idol alum Francisco Martin VI from season 18. Iam was nervous. Even more so when the guitar broke just before we went on stage. But I told him the night before “you have to believe that you’re capable of this. I believe in you, but that is not enough. YOU gotta believe in yourself too.” It was one of my favorite moments during the entire competition. Getting to stand beside little brother and support him meant the world to me. And that was before all the hype trains had started.
