I'm just sharing what I'm doing with friends.
I'm not looking to set myself up as an expert on anything or tell anyone how to do anything. I'm not looking to make a load of money off of content.
I welcome conversation about my projects but I'm not looking for judgement or unsolicited advice.
Enjoy!

A Simple Project - Start to Finish
I need a bed i can mount small stock to with double sided tape. It should be small so I can resurface it quickly. This way the double sided tape has a better chance of sticking.

My Old CNC (reupload)
Просмотров 43221 день назад
For reference. Here are a few clips of the second iteration of my old CNC machine. It's an old Fine Line Automation 2' x 3' model with a modification using v-groove bearings on the X axis. This machine worked well (if not slow) on what I'd done initially but ended up being too small for projects I wanted to work on in the future. So I started a redesign with the intent to just lengthen the X an...

This is a project for a friend. She wants to make one of those big wooden swords people are using for workouts for her son.
Temporary Spoilboard

I have some projects to get done for Christmas and need a spoilboard to work on. Since I'm re-using the Z axis from the old CNC and it doesn't quite have the reach I'm planning for this spoilboard is three sheets of 3/4" MDF thick. Threaded inserts are installed in the bottom two and the top sheet will take all the punishment and get resurfaced as necessary.
First Cut

Cutting a 2.5" x 2.5" square to check alignment and steps per unit settings on Mach4. I lost the clip of the actual cut but here's the one of the run where I set my Z target depth wrong in the gcode file. I'm rusty... need to relearn old habits. You can see the results of the drill operations where I checked the corners though. Need to drill 66 holes on a 2.5 inch grid for threaded inserts so I...
Carving Air

Running a gcode file from an old project to test all axes in a more realistic situation than simply homing axes. The CNC is moved into its intended location in the shop but still on little tri-dollies (one per foot) until final installation of rail guard strips, reworking Y proximity sensor location, and installation of vacuum hose mount are complete. SOON a temp spoilboard and mounting the rou...
Homing All Axes

I got homing to work tonight. Yes, I know the cable management needs work. Christmas is coming and drag chain is on my list. This will do for now.
First Motion

After over a year of design, fabrication, and assembly I finally have linear motion on all axes.
Very cool. I've never seen this used yet, but I can tell this is quality-done!
A fun, easy project and a good time was had by all who worked on it. The finish is still being applied so it's still technically a work in progress. I might share something short once it's done.
Hmm what was the main reason to put the y-axis rails sideways?
Placement in the shop mostly. I think, generally speaking, the X axis is the one you face when you're at the table. The shop is a smallish tuffshed type thing and the roughly 2x4 shape fits along the short wall. If I approach it from the long side I can easily reach the whole bed and the coordinate system still makes sense to me. Good catch!
Y and X Axis is good but Z Axis not strong . Upgrade Z Axis to linear rail and full size spindle clamp
All in good time. I appreciate your interest in my little project. This effort will proceed at its own pace and you're welcome to enjoy the experience as it progresses.
