Indoor Skydiver Does AFF! - Jump 1

This is my first jump from starting the AFF program and I am HOOKED. I was able to do all canopy piloting by myself without assistance from a radio (I still had one just in case) which I was pretty proud of as well! That’s the best video I’ve found showing proper progression in a proper honest timeline…I’ve just resumed my tunnel training after 14 years out! My belly flying has been fine tuned after only a couple of lessons back so I’m looking at back flying and transitions next! Your transitions were excellent btw!! I’m an old dog of 53 and I’ve got the bug back and it’s so much fun…..Subscribed and look forward to watching more of your videos…….You will be an instructor by the time I’ve watched them all!!

      Thank you, I appreciate it! Maybe not an instructor but I am hoping to become a coach one day! (hypermobile joints where my shoulders love to slip out of the socket if pulled the wrong way. Funnily enough, belly flying put it in the worst position where I feel they are the weakest and are more prone to popping out so I usually belly fly with my arms lower than 90° to the shoulder like mantis position) Spotting and catching people wouldn't be a great idea because of this but I would still love to teach. =D

    I'm a former ifly instructor and tunnel coach (350 flying hours, thousands of instructing hours). I only have 82 skydives and everybody at the DZ is stunned by my flying skills (I dont say that I wass a tunnelrat) haha nice to see the enthusiasm in the early days, the learning curve is rapid those first 50 hours

    I finished 1 hour and im not even close to what you learned… sadly bad coaches ( had like 4 different for every 15 mins session), and its not motivating to learn because of this

      A good coach should watch your videos back and explain the biomechanics of what you are doing right and wrong. The expensive bit is the air time the priceless bit is the objectives and post analysis. Good luck 👍when you get onto layouts and head down performance anxiety and tension can become an issue. Gymnastics and yoga are absolutely the best out of tunnel activities to help.

    Is staying stable falling out of a plane easier than in a tunnel ?

    • @WigglyFlies
      @WigglyFlies 9 месяцев назад

      Both in a sense When you’re skydiving you don’t really know where you’re travelling horizontally because you don’t have any reference points so you’re not worried about drifting as much. Most of the time if you’re solo jumping as well you don’t have to worry about going “up” and “down” (falling faster or slower) so that’s easier. You do have an instructor/coach when you’re skydiving but it’s hard for them to demonstrate and really help you in maybe 50 seconds which makes it harder. At the same time the rig does have drag and influences how you’re flying so if you’re small with rig too big for you like me, it can put you off balance if it’s not sitting right. You also have to learn to get used to the surface area/weight of the rig as well when you’re flying in other positions (back, head up, head down) this makes it harder for me to free fly. In the tunnel you have walls to consider so if you’re drifting you’ll bump into walls and you also have to control your level (up and down) so it’s a bit harder to stay still in one place and be stable. The nice thing about tunnel is you have lots of time with an instructor who can demonstrate and also use the net to make you stable while you learn to move around before completely lifting into the more unsteady air without support and it’s a lot easier to learn simply because you get more time. You don’t have to compensate for wearing a rig however and can really feel and control the way your body flies. I’ve seen a lot of skydivers with high jump numbers but no tunnel time get into the tunnel for the first time full of confidence and wanting to do a lot of free fly but in reality as soon as they get in they can’t stay still for the life of them cause they are used to drifting around and they start to bounce around the tunnel and have to relearn how to control themselves (hard habits to break sometimes) In general though, I think the sky is easier for a beginner to just stay “stable” and even for learning more complicated moves cause you can just huck it without fear of hitting a wall but tunnel fine tunes skills and forces you to be precise (you can get away with a lot more in the sky without needing to be perfect than you can in the tunnel)

      @Theprojectsupport 9 месяцев назад

      Thank you for your answer that was more than I asked for. I start my aff course in May. So I went indoor a couple weeks ago but was so hard for me to stay stable in the tunnel that I almost gave up hope 😂. Anyways thanks for your quick response

    • @WigglyFlies
      @WigglyFlies 9 месяцев назад

      @baboebil good luck with your aff! Do more tunnel time it’ll make it so easy! If you can get to the point where you have some foundation on your belly you’ll breeze through it. I passed my aff and got my Canadian solo in 5 jumps (normally takes 10+ jumps to get a solo license) so it’ll really return your investment if you don’t have to redo jumps in the sky lol

    • @WigglyFlies
      @WigglyFlies 9 месяцев назад

      Hehe not quite, the air applying force to you and you just have to hold and angle your body correctly to move and stay still, whereas swimming you’re actively moving and applying force to the water to move and to stay still you just stop moving. I’ve seen some people “swim” while flying and flail around and it’s kinda funny

      yes... i also watch these videos with my mouth open... i have just finished my proflyer sessions and i told my instructor about this channel and that i felt like a loser, comparing my progress with wigglys learning. She answered that people are very different in the tunnel, some just need to see the movement once and can easily inherit the movement and repeat it instantly. Others... don't 😂. Mostly dancers or Gymnasts.. ice dancers as well... are super dast learners...For me, i can improve my learning, if i have a proper briefing before and if I know in advance which movement we are going to do. i then can mentalize the movement better. however the importance of this is for instructors not always clear, because they often are the dancers type of learners I think... just seeing and doing it... thank you wiggley for this enzyclopedia. i really like working with it. 😊

    • @WigglyFlies
      @WigglyFlies 8 месяцев назад

      @@vergeben Im glad I can help! I hope my progress helps you kinda see what the general progression is like from skill to skill. (with a lot of freestyle sprinkled in) I danced since I was very young till I was 18 and did gymnastics for fun when I was a kid so I definitely have an advantage when it comes to body awareness. Id highly recommend checking out this playlist (ruclips.net/video/YG6JhRacjfU/видео.html) if you haven't already. They're great for practicing at home before you fly. Im also happy to answer any questions when I have time too if you have any :)

  • @1122-f2x
    @1122-f2x 10 месяцев назад

    You're just confused by the tunnel walls. In fact, you are not standing on your head, but falling headfirst. The instructor shows you to stretch out behind your head, accelerate. You need to understand that falling upside down, you need to reach for it, accelerating, acceleration gives stability. The shoulders will then not rise, spoiling the streamlining of the body profile. My instructor tells me that the first insights in the tunnel will come after the first 100 hours of flight. With his flight time of several thousand hours, he knows better)))) You can get even more experience by jumping from an airplane with the same instructor)))I recommend trying it)))You will like it))))

    • @WigglyFlies
      @WigglyFlies 8 месяцев назад

      Im not confused by the tunnel walls in this video, I just needed to train my muscle memory to get balanced whenever I go HD. The reason I was bailing so much is because when I transitioned, my spine wasn't straight in the HD position so the back of my head caught lift and made me cork. Feeling the balance point just comes with practice which I needed more of at this point. Currently I have about 39 hours in the tunnel and although I am not the best, I still get a lot of insight into what im doing and how I can improve my flying/help others improve theirs so you can still get insight well before your 100 hours. I don't train my tunnel skills specifically to bring them to the sky (although it is nice to be able to). Honestly I much prefer flying in the tunnel as it is more complex in the aspects that I like. I will skydive more in the future with my instructor but for now im very happy focusing on tunnel and freestyle flying.

      Thanks! Sorry for the late reply but when I was confident in my belly skills, they let me borrow a tighter Flight School suit that most iFly tunnels have. You generally have to kinda prove you're good with a baggy suit first as its kinda like training wheels and then you can move on to a tight suit. I eventually bought my own suit from DEEM a while later but im really happy with it and its fully custom.

    It is SO much different jumping out of a plane. I just did my first jump in 5 years and I felt like an AFF student all over again!

    It is AMAZING how quickly you learn. I am so impressed. What takes you 2 minutes to learn takes me 20 haha. All fun though. Love seeing these videos ^.^

    Wiggly! You learn SO quickly in these videos. I am amazed. Seriously, you are easily learning at 3-5x the speed I am and it's so awesome. Prodigy! I just started intro to knee flying so I am almost obsessively watching all these videos to try and figure it out. :-) You do so well. Would love any advice if you have some. It seems like a tough position to fly.

      Thanks so much! my advice would to be to really try to pull your knees into your chest, you want your shins to stay relatively parallel with the net so youre using a flat surface to fly on. Knee flying can be quite tricky because its not a naturally balanced position but the nice thing about it is that you can use it pretty much at any speed and especially useful if youre doing VFS at high speeds and trying to make docks. Cup your chest so you are catching the wind to hold you in a more head up position and use the wall sometimes to balance yourself so you can feel how your positioning affects the drives you get you want to make sure your knees are farther forward than your hips too so your point of balance is under you instead of behind you. lemme know if that dosnt make sense cause im sick rn so brain is not working lol always happy to help btw so feel free to ask any questions :)
