The UV sterilizer is a stop gap solution...the tank had a bacterial bloom...it would have went away on its own..if you have a new tank, you should dose it with Seachem Stability everyday for the first 7 days..that will seed the tank for you with beneficial bacteria which eventually colonizes and the ecosystem starts flourishing.
