      I didn't use a contact property here. I assume perfect bonding between fibre and matrix. To be more accurate in your modelling, you probably need to incorporate some form of interface effect. I will not go with a contact property but this is possible, if you so desire but the better approach is to use an interface (cohesize zone/surface) effect.

    Thanks for such informative tutorial. It helps me a lot. Sir, please explain the following input for an auxetic structure in dynamics explicit(Quasistatic ) in Abaqus CAE. 1. V=2mm/s, displacement of the model up to 30 mm. How can I apply both BCs at the same time or I am doing something wrong. 2. How von Mises stress is considered for different deformation values (Different nominal stress) for the same structure.

    • @MichaelOkereke
      @MichaelOkereke 19 дней назад

      Hello @AmitSingh, thanks for the comment. 1. I will suggest if you want a pre-determined displacement of 30 mm, then input that directly using Static analysis. However, if you want to then run a dynamic analysis, then the ABAQUS Dynamic Explicit might do (but certainly not quasi-static). In that case, you may explore specifying velocity as V = 2 mm/s. In which case, if you want to achieve the 30 mm displacement, then your time-step will last for 15 seconds. It all depends on what you want to do. If you are more interested in the quasi-static analysis, then an ABAQUS Static General step will be okay and you simply specify the displacement as 30 mm. It makes analysis run quicker, easily and more accessible in terms of explaining the results. 2. In terms of Von Mises stress, I will think you are referring to homogenized (effective) stress state in the material. In the videos I make on this channel, I often extract the reaction forces attached to a retained node (where the displacement is applied). Using this, you want work out the normal stress (what you describe as nominal stress data). You can also calculate the strain which is displacement/gauge length. For this case, you would have to decide on what you want but changing the displacement would give you different nominal stress-strain values (as a homogenized value).

    Hello Dr. Michael Okereke! I always appreciate your high-quality lectures. I have a question regarding the process of determining shear properties, as the stress values are not coming out correctly. I have set PBCs conditions and applied pure shear on the boundaries. Currently, the geometry information is as follows: Unit: [micrometer] N_number -> (x_coord, y_coord) N1 -> (0,0) N2 -> (300,0) N3 -> (300,300) N4 -> (0,300) The reaction forces at each node are as follows: Unit: [mN] N_number -> (RF1, RF2) N1 -> (-3400,-3130) N2 -> (0,3130) N3 -> (0,0) N4 -> (3400,0) Using this information to calculate the stress values results in a value of '0'. Could you please advise on what needs to be corrected? Thank you always.

      I think this is possible. YOu need to track a set of node/nodes from which you extract forces or displacements. You have to kinematically linked a reference point to a section of the material. I have a few videos on this channel on RVE modellign where I showed this kinamtically linked *EQUATION approach of using a reference point node to load and extract properties from a model.

      I think you can use a direct attachment to a set of nodes on that part of the ellipse you want to apply. Alternatively, use the Expressions to impose your load. This video should help you understand how to impose loads with expressions. YOu simply need to find the corresponding expression of load/displacement for your elliptical surface.

      @@MichaelOkereke Thank you very much for your answer, I am not sure that I understood your suggestion correctly, can you provide us if it is possible a small video that will clarify the steps to follow.

    Dear Dr. I hope everything is going well with you, In one of your videos regarding the pure shear stress analysis you used the slope of the stress-strain graph and divided the value by 2 to get the shear modulus, Why in this video there is no dividing and only the slope is considered? Thank you for your time

      It depends, if you do pure shear then you divide by two. If simple shear where you only have shear in one direction (then you can divide by two). I had a detailed theory about this in the videos where I described implementation of pure shear in 3D RVEs. There is a 2D shear one where i compared pure and simple shear. Please look at those videos as they would help you.

    Dear Sir thank you for your video, Could you explain what is the value two when dividing the slope of stress, strain to the value 2? Thank you for your time.

      Pure shear will have two strain values, hence averaging out the strains will give you the overall strain in the body. The 2 is merely an averaging effect between the two strains.
