    I find Garuda totally chaotic. There are too many options to adjust something here and there instead of centering it in one place. CachyOS or Nobara is much better and clearer.

    I've been thinking about it I tried them and popped back and forth between Windows and Linux the community is super friendly and more responsive than Microsoft and is better than SteamOS I tried using SteamOS and failed the installment so I might just go back to Garuda Dragonized I was this close to putting SteamOS on my computer I think Valve should team up with Garuda and help them build their own SteamOS I did notice virtual desktop and mixed reality doesn't work on Linux which is the only reason I am not switching to it and mupen64plus keeps breaking.

    I've used Garuda in the past and it worked great, but now I'm on endeavour as it also works great. People in Linux are so funny and hypocritical they all complain about garuda because it has so many tweaks and that it could cause problems but yet the same people recommend nobara linux and cachy OS which also have custom kernels and they are both tweaked to the max. See the hypocrisy and double standard the same with Ubuntu gets bad press they added amazon link like 10 years ago and everything else they do and people still hold that on them but yet fedora trying to implement telemetry on fedora 42 but that didn't raise no issue. That's why I kind of stop watching linux video and removed myself from communities involved with Linux I still use it and like it, but that's why Linux will never grow because new user's ask ok which distro should I use and they get all those comments don't use this use that this one no good but this one is it pushes new user's away.

      Ultimately, the choice of which Linux distribution to use is a personal one. While I do speak highly of Garuda, it's still up to each individual to decide which Linux suits their needs best.

    No, not the garuda. It failed to properly recognize that it failed to install correct combination of drivers for optimus with 1060 (i7-8750h + 1060Max-Q), it had issues with mid-screen tear due to pushing Wayland while it's not ready for the task, firedragon has issues with twitch. I also had some issues with audio devices, but I don't remember what exact problems I had, so we can discount that. On top of that as soon as you start installing something that is not considered in garuda's defaults, all the neat theming goes out of the window. Ultimately it did not contain anything that would make my life easier in comparison to just installing Steam, Heroic and/or Lutris on baseline Linux Mint and did not work any faster than my current mint installation. Mint managed to install properly working set of drivers on the first try. I can't say that it is best and I'm not sure how long I will stay on it, but it's defiantly not worse.

    Garuda really? It's ugly, bloated and with a crash awaited to happen upon every new install of a new application extension or when updating the system. Have you tested Bazzite, Nobara or Pop!_os? Gaming applications aren't that difficult to install, and proton is basically all you need now, if that doesn't work, get protonupqt and install a glorious eggroll version. Change the max map count. sudo sysctl -w vm.max_map_count=655300 Install Steam, ProtonUP Qt, ProtonTricks, WineHQ Stable, Wine Tricks. Alternatively add Lutris and Heroic to the batch. If so Woosh, now you can play all Steam Games that proton allows, Epic and "Good Old Games" games. The max map change fixes issues with that shouldn't even exist. It should be added as a default to every linux distro installation to be honest. If it haven't already been handled and fixed. max_map_count info (that it's default is a red hat specific point not distro wide truth.) access.redhat.com/solutions/99913

    *QUESTION* You right-clicked on Tales From The Borderlands .EXE file to run with WINE. OK... the question is, does that game not have to run an installation? I want to play a particular MMO, nearly 27Gb installed in Windows. In a VMWare Workstation VM of Garuda, I set up Bottles and got the online installer, and the game opens and runs. Mouse control is completely shot, but I'm running an emulator through a VM so I'm not expecting perfection, just to see that it works. How does the right-click run with WINE work with something like this?

    • @megakingsmanzero
      @megakingsmanzero Месяц назад

      It doesn't matter if you're using Wine Windows Program Loader or Bottles, the question is, is it working for you? Video games have to be installed on your hard drive, and the choice of installation method is yours. This type of freedom is the beauty of Linux.

    Dual booting presents a number of issues, including the most annoying of all: Linux likes your BIOS time set to UTC, while Windows likes it to be local time. Switching back and forth is a chore.

  • @GoldenGrenadier
    @GoldenGrenadier Месяц назад

    This is mostly good advice but it can lead to a lack of commitment if youre trying to totally switch. My advice would be to get the seperate hard drive but take your windows drive out and shove it in a drawer somewhere until the transitionary period is over. Dual booting is awesome but it's super easy to give in and boot back into windows as soon as something presents a moderate challenge. Sooner or later, the linux installation falls into disuse and before you know it, the next stable release has come out so you decide to just nuke your previous installation and try again. The linux path is full of pitfalls like these.

      It's generally not recommended to dual boot Linux and Windows *on the same drive* for a number of reasons, most of which is that Windows is notorious for messing with other EFI partitions it finds on a drive, even if it's on another partition entirely. Dual booting on separate drives is fine.

    "perception that linux was not as user friendly as windows" LMAO Linux will never be a true contender in gaming. I hate mac's and they are more likely to be a better 2nd place for gaming. .... The list of reasons that linux will never sit 2nd place or close to windows in personal user marketplace and especially in the gaming marketplace is way longer then I would honestly want to sit here and list. Don't get me wrong, I have used linux, linux servers, and all that garbage. every distro has its own way of being a pain in the ass and is never an out of the box solution. Even system builders, like System 76 come across issues with audio and things of that nature just for streaming. How many years has it been since the whole " this is the year of linux" thing has been goin now? If you are into linux and wanna spend the time dealing with it and trying to get all your games to work on it.. thats cool. have fun with it, but don't lie to people making it seem like its easier and better than a windows system. It will never have the out of box experience that a windows PC has, where you can literally install windows on practically ANY mix of hardware and it be ready to go for gaming in under an hour.

    • @TheXipherZero

      I think this is currently the biggest pain point. Only AMD has good OSS drivers and Nvidia's proprietary driver introduces lots of problems when trying to use it in conjunction with things like Gamescope or other Wayland heavy sessions. Only recently has Nvidia gotten their HW mostly working with standard DEs on wayland. Intel devs need to contribute more to get ARC GPUs supported as well as the OSS AMD stuff and Nvidia really needs to do more than just token code contributions to NVK and Nouveau.

    idk man would a linux exclusive store actually be a good idea ? I mean we already have gog and itchio both drm-free and support linux would make no sense for a business to start a new store from scratch supporting only the platform with the least amount of users (even tho that platform is gaining traction we're still by far a minority) they'll just end up with no client and no game devs who would even bother publishing their game there what's more realistic would be getting like better linux support from gog and itchio like new launcher or something

    • @luimu

      Creating new store solves non-existent problem. The existing storefronts are perfectly fine for linux, the games in them are the problem. Making new store doesn't magically port all the games to linux. Drms are unlikely to go anywhere in the near future so making linux support them better is much higher priority than getting rid of it.

  • @CnCDune
    @CnCDune 2 месяца назад

    My problem is how people keep saying "switch to Linux" despite the change not being that easy or seamless - especially if your applications only have windows versions and Linux, despite being 30+ years old at this point, doesn't offer proper compatibility built-in. Not that MS/Apple do either (MS' backwards-compatibility is a lie and has been at least as far back as Vista; Apple killed 32-bit and now 64-bit with ARM) but considering everything else they did and still do, that's not unusual - but for an entire, open-source community that wants a larger user-base? IMHO, I think it's just sad and disappointing. And I'm not asking for much: Wine already exists, I just want it and any settings that are needed to be conveniently *already built-in and pre-set* so I don't have to install Wine or tinker with its settings; I've done enough of that for the past 20+ years of using Windows tot the point I have collection of patch-EXEs to just run on a new machine/install. And if that fails for some reason, at least with Windows I'm already more than familiar with its problems and can nick a file or two from an older HDD or something.

      I don't really think windows is so much buggier and less stable, but it is obviously much more bloated and bad on your hardware if you've actually tried any popular distro, you'll know 11 is insanely bloated by comparison, and making custom versions of it that supposedly decrease the bloat, often leaves you lacking in security by a lot. I've never had any viruses or backdoors with Linux but seeing a virus on your "antivirus" program of choice on Windows, is just another day that ends with 'y' for Windows users.

    Microsoft also embrased Safety and security bullshit. Idea behind it is, that when you write foundation/system/driver code. You have to be extremely careful this memory allocation. And places where user generated input is placed into variables. There is a new generation of low level languages. Mainly Rust and GO. That take the ability to manage the memory out of everyday coding. They utilize macros. Where instead of configuring type of variable, it's length, and it's region in a memory, you use makro. The abstract system where you define this tags what the variable should not be allowed to be. It's not bad thing buy itself. But it allows people should have no business writing a Low level code. Write fundamental components of the operating system and drivers. Result is the same functionality. Quadruple the binary size. And half the speed. The idea that there should be no unsafe code. Probably is the idea that will kill Windows once and for all. Simple systems like Linux combined with modern simple libraries and dependencies. Will eventually prevail over the windows. Due to the users rander utilising 20% improvement in performance in games. And use second installation of same operating system that is hardened and secured. Del for slower for their banking and highly important work. Only thing that is sad about the Linux. Is that Linux kernel 6.4 together with X display server or Wayland. Is going into the same either blouted or safety and security obsess the direction.
