Antique shopping can be so overwhelming and quite intimidating. Each week I will spotlight a different topic, sharing the basics on what you need to know in short, concise videos.
you have been indoctrinated with incorrect plastics history along with much of the costume jewelry collectors - all those bracelets you show are Catalin - - cast resin Bakelite could not be carved - Catalin invented by Dr Fritz Pollak in 1926 - he sold formulas to the American Catalin co in 1927 for $100,000. Catalin is the most important vintage plastic - it was an improved and stronger phenolic resin over Bakelite and had much better color depth.
Very nice presentation. The only thing I would add is that Louis the 14th was the 1600s. Madame do Pompadour also was very interested in fine porcelain. She started the SEVRES factory.
