    Quick note, with Jaune's Semblance, technically he has used his Semblance on himself, it was actually the first time we saw him use it on himself. And I presume that the whole "regenerate his own Aura" is either due to him specifically targeting the aspect of Aura that standardly regenerates, although that would be a much greater increase than we typically see, or amplifying the total amount of Aura that he has in a method similar to "computer views his max Aura as arbitrary number of 100 and current amount as 45, Jaune uses his Semblance on himself to temporarily increase his current amount of Aura and max amount of Aura by 1.5 times, making it appear to the computer that his Aura just jumped up if it's unable to measure above his standard Aura max". That is just a theory though. And technically Fiona's Semblance of Pocket Dimension hasn't actually been used on someone else from what I can tell. And it's entirely possible that if she tried to use that on someone with active Aura that it wouldn't work due to only making contact with the forcefield on the person and not the person proper. And as Aura seems to be more of an energy than matter, and her Semblance works on matter, it probably wouldn't do anything. Now yes, that hasn't been mentioned or shown in the show proper, but she also hasn't shown the ability to use it on people either. Also, although it's in a novel, Grimm have also been shown to occasionally interact with Aura and Semblances weirdly due to their soulless nature, which depending on the Semblance results in the Grimm simply draining the Aura with no result. And while Magic might not have the sheer variety that Semblances do, it makes up for it in terms of total output and area deniability. Weiss may be able to manipulate elements with Dust and her Glyphs, but her fire isn't on the level of Cinder's fireball that melted or vaporized eight or so several-inch thick steel floors. And Magic also appears to have a decent advantage once people's Aura break, considering that Raven was able to freeze Cinder solid from a distance, although that was after hitting her so an argument could be made that direct contact is needed. At the very least in terms of combat applicability, it also outclasses quite a few of the ones you have on a higher tier by simple virtue of area of effect. Making solid illusions is quite good and all, but if you're fighting someone who can simply constantly make the entire area you're in hostile enough that those illusions instantly break their use plummets. Not to mention Magic allows flight as well, at high speeds, and there's an argument to be made that Magic can buff physical capabilities judging by Raven's fight vs Cinder where they were demonstrating feats at the very least equal to a Semblance-enhanced Yang, and oftentimes better. Invulnerability is good and all, but being invulnerable doesn't mean that you're immovable or unstoppable, and it has quite a few potential weaknesses, such as the opponent running away, or immobilizing them. Magic allows the user flight, high power range attacks, high power melee attacks, and high levels of area of effect. That being said, the most critical critique I have for this list is that it assumes that some Semblances can do things that their users have never used them for before, but doesn't assume that for other Semblances. It assumes that Fiona's Semblance works on humans, even those with Aura, as well as Grimm, despite that never being shown IIRC. But it doesn't account for Nora holding onto some lightning Dust to supercharge herself when needed. And the second one actually has more evidence in the show proper, as Ruby's electric shot did power Nora up. Also, it seems that Nora getting hurt by electricity is dependent on whether she's aware of the electricity and can thus use her Semblance to absorb it, as shown by how in the Vytal Tournament she's completely unbothered by getting shocked, but when she gets shocked by Hazel, at first she shows indications of pain but then becomes unbothered moments later. While using her Semblance does still use her Aura, which is presumably why she got hurt by siphoning Atlas's power supply due to it simply having more electricity than she can handle. Either that or there's a limit to how much electricity her Semblance can handle at once. You also assume that Harriet's Super Speed increases her reaction time, when as far as I recall that's not shown in the show, and is quite possibly not the case judging by her running into the wall that Weiss makes. She notes that she has better reaction time than Ruby, but that could simply be a result of her training for longer with her Semblance to try and keep up. But you don't assume the possibility that Moonslice could be used to absorb the energy generated from his sword hitting something or someone via Newton's Third Law of Motion. You also assume that Petal Burst is capable of directly carrying opponents without them interfering with the process, in spite of there being times where it would be useful for Ruby to do so and she hasn't done so, as well as the instances in which she has used her Semblance to move people and she instead does it by manipulating air rather than directly. And a few of the Semblances also potentially ignore abilities that Aura grant which could possibly partially counter them. Most specifically, Aura has been known to be able to be used to determine the position of things around the user on multiple occasions, although admittedly some people are better at this than others. This has been shown on multiple occasions in the show proper, and has had the method explained in some of the novels. And yes, I know you want to try and avoid the novels, but it's an ability that has been shown in the show, and the novels just expand on how it works. That being in terms of sensing living beings it appears to be done by sensing Aura, and with Grimm it can be done by sensing what amounts to a void in terms of Aura. This brings up an interesting possibility that some illusion based Semblances likely wouldn't be nearly as effective against some people if they can't make an illusion that fools their Aura sense as well. And while this is admittedly mostly a hypothetical, it would explain why someone like Roman was capable of figuring out which one was the real Blake almost the instant she uses her Semblance. I do want to make clear that I do like this video, and what you've done. I wouldn't be likely to put this much effort into a comment if I didn't like it. I just figured I'd do a bit of critiquing.

    my own headcannon for Semblances is that Semblances are a person's own internal magic and in the ancient past people were able to learn other magics just at a weaker state. I came up with some OP Semblances such as 9 Lives which allow the wielder to teleport a short distance away from any Fatal blows for 9 times in a row but the downside is you gotta wait for your Aura to recharge to a point.

  • @DuskoftheTwilight
    @DuskoftheTwilight 6 часов назад

    Regarding Raven, I think you're downplaying the logistical nonsense you could pull with strategic use. Imagine sending a single scout into enemy territory (particularly a scout like Qrow who can go a long distance in a short time virtually undetected) and then on a signal, open a portal and have an entire battalion of people charge through. These portals aren't huge enough to teleport an entire army at once, but they're not small by any means, and we saw Yang ride her bike through one so vehicles aren't off the table as far as getting people through quickly. Additionally, this is a world where traveling between continents takes a substantial amount of time. If valid teleport targets are staged in every capital city, transporting VIPs around safely could be made trivial with this power. In the age of scrolls those wouldn't be too useful for communication, but if the towers ever go down it's also useful for that purpose. The big potential limitation would be if it costs aura per person going through the portal, or if it's a significant drain to keep it open. She never exactly seemed to be in a hurry when using them but she's also experienced at putting on an intimidating face.

    13:30 While this is strictly speculation since we never got a proper explanation for this, I think there might be a distinction between "The aura actively creating a shield" and "Someone's deeper aura reserves." Semblances would then draw from that deeper reserve, while damage taken to your shield gradually replenishes from the same. If this were the case, then Jaune using his semblance on himself could be a matter of burning some extra reserve aura to get his shield to recharge faster.

    A bit of a note: Ren was able to somewhat echo locate when searching for Oscar, using the emotion reading of his semblance. He seemingly wasn't able to directly see them through the walls, but he was able to tell the general direction and distance of anything with emotions, within an unspecified range. He has to be actively using his semblance, but it does mean he can at least track people that he can't see.

    The director of Hardcore Henry: Illya Naishuller is absolutely a based dude. The dude’s practical effects are on a whole different level. They are similar to prequel levels of scarring, he made models of the dead bodies. Henry overall had 13 different actors/ stuntmen. Holy fucking shit. *13* More specifically there two actors that played Henry extremely well. The actor who play Dimtri plays Henry in the second half of the movie and Illya himself play Henry during the second arc with Jimmy. The rig that they used, was 4 GoPros interlinking. The neck strain was EXTREMELY bad. So, they needed more actors to portray Henry.

    i fell like there are a couple powers that arent in the right spot, Lie detection and Kindred Link. i fell like Lie Detection should be a B tier power. yes it lets you know when the person is lying but, like you said there needs to be physical contact so thats a point of weakness. i feel like theres more information needed on it still but i feel an A ranking doesnt fit it. Kindred Link i feel should be an A rank. with the ability to create portals to people you used to and currently care about is massive. without knowing the full scope of the power its hard to really judge its potential but it should be higher. you could potentially teleport to a passed loved ones grave to escape, of a family pet.

    Petal Burst is such a funny, if irritating, ability because they just never seemed able to decide what on earth to do with it. Ruby has the 3 best speed feats in the show, you can literally watch Harriet's fight against the Gheist and how fast the rocks fall and compare to the Red Trailer bullets not falling until Ruby is done and SEE that Ruby is faster. But she just...sometimes isn't that fast. She can pick people up and with Nora it seems effortless, and with Penny her only issue seemed to be misjudging her weight, but then sometimes it tires her out. According to Penny in Volume 8 her Semblance negates mass, letting her go through doors and such...but Mercury kicked her mid flight Volume 3. Sometimes it seems to be just legitimate flight, like how she controlled it against the Beringal to spin around and go steadily up, and sometimes it's just a burst of speed like in the Emerald Forest. If we take all of those abilities it should just be ungodly broken, as in almost impossible to lose a fight. Super speed, intangibility, flight, and is for practical purposes short range teleportation of anything close to her, those are 4 of the most powerful superpowers around, just look at the Flash from DC or Logia from One Piece. But it just...randomly works differently sometimes.

    • @nemasisdemarini8339

      As far as my take on that matter, I'd say it's like a difference in propulsion. Harriet's semblance essentially acts a high powered engine on a formula 1 car. Whereas Ruby's is like an engine on a jet, or plane. Sure she can go faster, move more, and likely even move more efficiently. But doing any or all of those would also take up significantly more energy from her, than from Harriet. After all, the main thing that she seemed to train with it for in volume 7, was her stamina, and ability to keep pace with Harriet for long periods.

    13:10 Jaune's "Semblance" is so dumb, especially if you can see all that Aura can already do. Aura is shared between a Huntsmen, their clothes/ armor, and their weapons, so why couldn't it be shared with other people? Heck, Pyrrha was able to merge her Aura with Jaune's to help unlock his vast stores of the stuff. I can only imagine with him "Amping" himself is that he is projecting fresh Aura outward from his stores, hence the Aura Shimmer. Why not be at 100% the entire time? It is shown that, even while being "Amped," projecting lots of Aura outward still causes strain on the individual. Just top off the tank and keep your stamina, don't stress yourself by overdoing it. Also, with the loss of Blake's Aura Arcs/ Slashes and Ren's Barriers, we have no true example of what a skilled Huntsmen can do with Aura. Jaune can be that example in the Main Cast, with Qrow and the others mentoring him. Sorry for the rant, but I will die on this Hill. Have a wonderful day!

    • @matijasostojic4288
      @matijasostojic4288 3 дня назад

      Yea I agree. My own headcanon of how it works is that aura very much acts in the same way as blood/blood type. Everybody has a unique soul/aura and when a foreign aura enter the body it reacts violently like a failed transfusion of blood. When a person unlock anothers aura they aren't gently soothing it to come out or something, they are administering a small amount of foreign aura into the body and making the persons soul go "OH shit!" which activates their own aura as self defense. Jauna can bassically turn his aura into the equivalent of O- blood for the soul.

    My take on how Jaune semblance works. His ability enhances the aura it comes into contact with, making it more powerful, so less is needed to use for semblances and healing. That’s why he can buff himself with it. He’s basically making his aura be more efficient so it apeares he just gained more. The downside would be, that he can only make himself stronger for a short time, because to keep this power up going he needs to constantly keep the semblance active, draining his aura.

Being able to just give yourself determination and extreme focus on any task is HUGE. Theoretically he is immune to any kind of fatigue (From a menzal standpoint that is) and any kind of fear when facing overwhelming odds. Ironwood could also tehnically learn anything within his capacity. Wanna learn rocket science? Well just activate your semblance for every single study session and you will have the motivation of somebody that actually want to do it even if you yourself could never get yourself to do it normally. That the thing, in the vast majority of situations, his semblance isn't all that bad. It just becomes a problem, if it's ever used in a situation where you're not able to think clearly to begin with. Since, as we've seen, that sort of shear focus and commitment can easily cause you to tunnel vision on whatever you are dedicating it to. Which, again, in average life, isn't all that bad, all things considered. Most of the time, the worst it could do for you, is piss some people off and make you get sick from overwork. But in an emergency situation, and war time, that's the last sort of person you want in charge. And, honestly, that's a bigger detriment than his semblance. At the end of the day, he had *way* more influence than he should have.

    I think tock’s power is not that good in the rewby universe because it seems useful only if your facing people one on one and relies on your own strength and speed to get the job done before that minute is up. Also if it is a one on one you have to worry about the other persons semblance and hope that they don’t have anything that can stall you out or just hold you down because her semblance grants her invulnerability not increase strength or speed so if you can hold her down or just hold of against her with a semblance she is in trouble because a simple bullet could take her out. I'd personally say Neo's power is stronger than Em's (even before the Ever After buff) because Em's comes with a couple of drawbacks. It can only affect a handful of people at most, as stated. But it also seems to rely on Emerald understanding a mode of perception, as evidenced by Penny was able to bypass it with her IR vision. So it would be useless against Grimm, and probably not work on Maria or anyone in that situation. It also probably wouldn't work on cameras. Unrelated; suggestion for a future video. Ranking Grimm threat levels?

    • @TheDual-Wielder
      @TheDual-Wielder 5 дней назад

      We saw Emerald use it against the Seer grimm inside Monstro, so it worked against them, and presumably other grimm. Penny was a unique case, as her being a machine allowed her access to infrared vision, which normal humans and faunus wouldn't have. I agree that Neo's became insanely powerful after Season 9, but both have too much versatility for me to not put them in S-tier. An illusionist as a support unit would be astronomically powerful in most cases. Grimm are a bit more difficult to classify. They tend to either be mowed down en masse, or be a tremendous struggle.

    I love this trope. It’s one of those tropes where we’ve seen it before but we don’t know what it’s actually called. In fact I’m actually writing a five-man band story that combines modern tech and medieval fantasy. The roles each character portrays in the team are as follows: (With brief explanation I should add) - Matt Santos/The Road Ranger (Leader) Headstrong yet often stoic, firmly believes in retributive justice as he was a victim of loss from his mother being murdered and the police becoming corrupt. He often wears sleek black full-body tactical armor, wields a MK18 Carbine and an M9 Beretta Pistol. He also carries an M67 frag grenade just in case. - Maria Garcia (Lancer) Level-headed though may sometimes lose her cool if insulted. She also has a strong sense for justice however due to her FBI training, she prefers due process over immediate death penalty. However she will not shy away from shooting someone if absolutely necessary. She often wears sleeveless tactical gear and wields an Uzi submachine gun, a custom Beretta M9 (likely civilian version), and pepper spray due to her police training. A side note for both Matt and Maria: They often work together both in close-quarters combat and as a sniper-spotter duo with Matt usually being the sniper and Maria being the spotter. While I am aware that the spotter in real life is usually the more experienced sniper, this choice is mostly because it’s rooted in Maria’s reluctance to kill unnecessarily. Besides this, there’s also a romantic subplot between them which is more often than not, subtle. Mostly because they’ve only known each other for a few weeks. - Miz (Smart Guy) While Matt and Maria are the ones doing all the dangerous missions, Miz is the kid (actually a teenager) who does all the techy stuff. From computers to hi-tech gadgets, even weapon maintenance like cleaning and keeping ammo well-stocked as long as he has all the materials. Essentially he’s the one that goes over the logistics before launching an operation. Though he does have an eccentric but mostly harmless personality. - Erik The Red (Big Guy) Standing at 6 feet and 5 inches tall, Erik The Red is the definition of a strongman. Matt works out quite often with weighted calisthenics and a good bit of cardio. But Erik’s “training” (if you can call it that) is all manual labor such as lumbering and farming. While he is highly adept in combat with his two-handed battleaxe and his longbow, Erik also takes satisfaction in keeping a farm going. Especially if it benefits those around him. He’s even a good chef if you can believe it. For the record: His name is NOT to be confused with the real life historical figure. I didn’t even know there was a real life Erik The Red until I actually looked it up after I began writing this character. - Erlyn of Sunglimmer (Heart) Though kind of a foil for Erik, Erlyn is a kind-hearted elf who wishes to know more about the world she finds herself in. But being that she and Erik accidentally stumbled themselves into a sort-of modern world (it’s actually post-apocalyptic with modern technologies still existing albeit in scant availability) she is now curious with everything that is around her wanting to know as much as she can with modern science. Being that she is adept with magic spells and enchantments, her skills are nothing short of beneficial though she is not godlike in her powers. Far from it. For one, her magic is mostly based on earthly elements. Though she also has other magics from her staff that not only does elemental magic spells but also does healing and shielding which is a temporary field of protection that works on her and her allies. As far as having a sixth ranger on the team, that is yet to be determined. Since Erik already has archery as a combat skill of his, I feel like it may be repetitive to have a bow-wielding thief as a sixth ranger especially since Erik also knows how to sneak when he needs to. But yeah. This is my execution of the five-man band trope combining modern and fantasy.
