She tackled it a bit too fast and getting confused with equations. In her first attempt, she gets confused and her intuition would be right if it was the same force being applied to separate objects, instead of a force being shared through the platform. This makes her inaccurately think that they would be launched by different heights. She does bring up air resistance, but usually not significant enough in "small" problems like this. I think she also read a comment which confuses her to think the rock would experience greater acceleration (it experiences greater force, but it has more mass and that results in the same acceleration regardless of mass). Not going to cover attempt 2 as she got completely confused. Attempt 3 is better as here is where any notable differences should occur if any (further reasoning below). She also correctly frames the situation in pt2 of her conclusion. For those who aren't quite sure about the physics of what is happening: To approach this without any maths, we need to describe what is going on. Link and the Cube will fall at the same acceleration under gravity, as they are experiencing freefall. The Cube doesn't bounce nor deform in any notable manner, so it is safe to ignore any loss of energy due to deformation. I will ignore the manner of which the floor pushes them both up, as the launch velocity only really depends on the velocity at the moment the objects are no longer in contact with the floor as the launcher is no longer applying any force on Link or the Cube. Air resistance is negligible due to low speeds and distances. As the launch velocity is dependant on how fast the floor rises, Link and the Cube will be launched at the same speed and therefore to the same height (as acceleration due to gravity is the same). Another way to view this is that in the perspective of Link and the Cube everything in the room is falling away, so they would not experience any differences in peak height. In conclusion Link and the Cube can be estimated as single connected object, with the only difference is the orientation of the joined object. (proper term-ish, as a "single frame of reference"). As such, the velocity at which Link and the Cube hits the ground are the same regardless of orientation. Exhibit A is Link being launched beside/separate from the Cube. This scenario has Link take fall damage. This makes sense as Link is launched to a great height, then falling to the ground as a speed such that he takes damage. Exhibit B is Link being launched while he's on top of the cube, however does not take any fall damage. Physically speaking, he should take the same damage, as his speed at the moment of impact will be the same. As observed, he doesn't take any damage, and this is likely due to how the game handles contact physics.
