My name is Billy and I started vlogging fairly regularly when the pandemic happened (2020, in case you're reading this in the future) and I and my wife, Vi, lacking things to do at home, discovered RUclips travel vlogs. Being already in the field of photography (mainly architecture), it made sense for me to try the next logical thing--videography.
I hike the Catskills and surrounding regions in slightly upstate New York and create videos to hopefully disseminate information from a local's perspective. But when the pandemic ends and travel is back again, I plan to include videos of our travels beyond the Catskills.

Madam Brett Park and Dennings Point State Park
It could be that I came to hike on a Saturday morning instead of my usual Sunday morning that there were already people at Madam Brett Park even at just after sunrise. Then again, the city the park is in, Beacon, is small and thriving so it probably wouldn’t be surprising to find people there even on Sunday mornings. People out for a stroll, a jog, a change of scenery, a breath of fresh air, or a walk with their dogs to complete their morning routines.
The out-and-back, 2-mile trail isn’t itself wild. (You can go for an additional 3-mile hike if you decide to loop around the adjacent Dennings Point State Park, a 64-acre peninsula that juts into the Hudson River.) You won’t be hiking in the...

Melzingah Falls in Beacon, NY
Просмотров 5092 месяца назад
There are waterfalls in the city of Beacon. But I have not gone there until now. That’s because Beacon, as far as I can tell, is a trendy little city just 60 miles north of New York City and the buzz of human activity would take away from the peace and tranquility that Nature provides, at least in my mind. So it was surprising that once I started walking to the falls and then hiked to Melzingah...
Shaupeneak Ridge Park

I have to be honest and say I’ll pick a hike to a waterfall anytime over a hike with no waterfall at all. A waterfall gives me a clear objective and focus. The hike becomes a mission that needs accomplishing. My mind is set on finding this waterfall and once it’s in sight, especially after a long and difficult hike, I keep my cool but the joy I feel is enough for me to lose my poise. But not al...
Stony Kill Falls in Wawarsing, NY

Every once in a while, I don’t hike alone. Usually, it’s with Vi. But occasionally, the kids-or in this one instance, a kid, our son, Cody-would come along. And when that happens, I am given the pleasure of experiencing with family the harmony that exists in Nature.
Shaupeneak Ridge Waterfall

Yes, many waterfalls, as I suspected long before I started chasing them, require a hike. Indeed, beside the fact that construction of a paved pathway such that entire families even along with their wheelchair-bound members can leisurely stroll on may be outside of any town’s budget, the engineering feats required I imagine can be insurmountable as the topography leading to the falls can be chal...
Zabriskie's Waterfall and White Clay Kill Falls

Why are waterfalls white? If you had given the question just a moment of thought, “bubbles” might have popped in your mind, or floated, um, no pun intended, and you would be right. But why, you might ask, are bubbles white? Water, after all, is transparent. Because the bubble is shiny, light is reflected off its outer surface. Because the bubble is also transparent, some of the light enters the...
Waterfall at Bashakill
Просмотров 1777 месяцев назад
It’s one of those rare waterfalls that are in full view but one cannot get to because of the “no trespassing" signs. Rarer still because the stream the waterfall is on seems to form the boundary between public and private lands. Admiring the waterfall from afar is all the visitor can do. The waterfall is at Bashakill, a 3,000 acre marsh designated as a Wildlife Management Area. Fortunately, the...
Plattekill Falls, Old Mill Falls, and Schalk's Falls in the Catskills
Просмотров 2738 месяцев назад
Something like Plattekill Falls is probably what you have in mind when you think “waterfall". Gouged by Mother Nature in the Catskill Mountains to form a rocky amphitheater with water gushing down the middle from 75 feet high, its appearance is quite simply iconic. And as if Mother Nature isn’t sure if that is enough, she garnishes it with two, additional, small roadside waterfalls, Old Mill Fa...
Stirling Castle. Better than Edinburgh Castle?
Просмотров 3469 месяцев назад
As tourist, it is hard for me to not compare Stirling Castle with Edinburgh Castle. Both were royal residences, both sit on top of volcanic rock overlooking the city, they’re just an hour apart by train, and both were built in the 11th-12th centuries. But the experience one gets when visiting both castles cannot be any more different. Edinburgh Castle is in the second most populous city of Scot...

Some of you might wonder why we keep coming back to the UK when we can maybe visit other places, too, if only to “see the world”. Being the first country we’ve been to outside the Philippines doesn’t give the full answer, although I suspect in part it would. Because I think it’s also our enchantment with history, especially one with living royalty - kings, queens, princes, princesses, the court...

I have known Peter from long ago when this technology called Telex, “the forerunner of modern fax, email, and text messaging” (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telex) was still in wide use in business worldwide. We worked then for a firm in London, delivering and configuring telex hardware and software to big multinationals like Deutsche Bank, Marine Midland (which became HSBC), Lehman Brothers, and many ...
Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh, Scotland
Просмотров 4710 месяцев назад
It is not often that an imposing wonder of Nature over 800 feet tall would sit just to the side of a sprawling city. But that’s what Arthur’s Seat is at the summit of Holyrood Park, an ancient volcano that is easy to climb for a splendid view of the historic city of Edinburgh below. When I first saw Arthur’s Seat in pictures some years ago, I thought, why climb for a view of a city? Looking dow...
Buttermilk Falls in Rockland County, New York
Просмотров 24010 месяцев назад
Living in a city space can be confining. Although parks help, there’s not much in the way of boundless wilderness like what one might find in the Catskills or beyond. But Buttermilk Falls County Park in Orangeburg, Rockland County comes close. Less than a mile away from one of the biggest malls in New York State, Palisades Mall, Buttermilk Falls County Park has two rocky overlooks on which the ...
Slabsides - John Burroughs Nature Sanctuary - Part 2
Просмотров 12711 месяцев назад
My wife and I have been to Slabsides before in 2014. But we didn’t go for the trails. We only went for Slabsides, the log cabin that John Burroughs built with his son, because it was open to the public for that one day. Having developed an interest in any bit of history of the place we now called home, it was an opportunity we did not want to miss. This time, though, I went for its trails. Not ...

Great video . Thank you . I find your videos very interesting
Thank you. I appreciate the comment. It keeps me motivated. I’m glad you liked the videos!
Thank you for another nice video to these local gems. Lovely videography and photography as always. --Tim
Hi, Tim. Yes, there seems to be a "gem" at every turn in these parts. 😀. Thank you for the comment. Much appreciated!
As a fellow nature lover I can't tell you how much I appreciate your hard work and your videos. Just beautiful. It's a shame RUclips doesn't feature content like this more. Much appreciation from Pennsylvania
Yes, I am happy and content hiking and sharing but promoting local scenery on RUclips's part would be also be very nice. Thank you.
Is this public or private land
It is on public land.
Jason is coming 😷
This is exactly what I was looking for. Great vid!
Beautiful little video, unfortunately the RUclips algorithm doesn't play nice and this video didn't get promoted as much as it should have
Would like to see harriman state park trails
I know it's an old clip, but beautiful footage!
We live about an hour and a half from here. Taking a hike around the lake tomorrow. Nice video.

Nice video.Thats a cool little lake.My buddy crazy Mike lives about 2 miles from there
Now you were in my neck of the woods, Manhattan... and you drove over the GW Bridge too!!.. Next time you're here, let me know and i'll show you around... Nice video of very familiar places...
Hi, Pizza Rules. That would be great! I used to go to the city once a week. But with the pandemic going on, this was the last time I was there. Can't wait to get back to "normal".
Orange County Choppers brought me here...nice video via drone shots...keep up your labor of love...you remind me of youtube vlogger, actionkid ( nyc)...check him out y'all. Be safe and well. Cheers from upper Manhattan NYC..
Thanks! We’ve been to OCC’s big showroom in Newburgh. We weren’t aware of it (although we were aware of the brand as it’s occasionally featured in local papers and TV) until an acquaintance from out-of-town came to visit and wanted to see it. Really pretty spectacular place. Must be well-known outside our Orange County, NY, if not maybe the world. ActionKid looks like a great channel to see NYC at its most raw and current. Something I'm having difficulty finding until now. Thank you for introducing me to his channel. Nice to see a lot of love for NYC.
I love fishing here. I was just here a few hours ago. Keep making videos!
Thank you ladykws. I so appreciate that.
I think this is wonderful! Thank you.
