How about you make some more disgusting mouth noises. So fantastic to hear
this is a tough video to follow along with... is there a concise video?
Eric, this video is over 2 years old but it helped me out a ton with setting up my own RC 600. Thank you!
@@MiNiSoTaN good to hear! Thank you 😊
Can I add just a simple kick sound to the rhythm section? It doesnt have one like the rc300 had. Thank you
I don’t actually have this unit anymore but to my recollection there is no simple kick beat, which is a real shame!
Do you really have any other options? There are no quarter angle XLR cables, so if you're singing & playing guitar, I don't know of any other way it can be done.
How can we arrange just for that memory chanel to record the rhythm only? It seems like all memory locations are effected by this change. Thank you
does the recorded track play endlessly? Is there a setting for that? I want to have a different drumbeat on each track to play along with (as long as I want), but so far they just play as long as I recorded them, which is annoying
Apart from playing endlessly as a recorded loop, which it will do, I’m not sure what you mean?
thanks for the examples. Really! It saves so much time to not reinvent the sound when someone has already did the labor. I gig out with the RC-600 and just starting to experiment with the rhythms as opposed to making my percussion on guitar. Example Holden Bare Mrs Robinson RUclips. I share only for the example point.
Glad it was of some use. Happy looping 😊
Thanks so much...exactly what I needed
Glad it was useful!
I like less thinking is best
also, on playback the rhythm most often starts when any track plays, so the recorded loop is playing at a slight timing difference with the actual rhythm speaking…
Why does it sound out of sync?
@@ericchristianson7589 there's a slight difference like double tracked vocal, or digital delay I hear on the kick. It sounds like the loop you recorded and the built-in beatbox rhythm are playing at the same time. The beatbox rhythm could be turned off, and that slight delay should go away. Or as this occurs again, change the built-in beatbox to another rhythm to hear what I'm describing.
@@haroldwaynejackson7880 there was no delay on and rhythm was on for the roll function but volume was at 0.
you’re double tracking the kick some how… maybe an open mic?
No mic input going into the unit
If it works for you then great, but seems really impractical to have your looper pedals way up on top. No way this would work for me.
I think it’s one of those things you have to try to know for sure. But as you say, whatever works for you 👍
Do you sing and play? It's impractical the other way around for me as well, unless you only have old school pedals w/in & outs on the sides, but you're still going to need a big gap between your top & bottom rows for your xlr cabling, unless you find 1/4 angled xlr cabling, which is a bit pricey, but if you have any pedals that are angled, like his boss DD-200, you can't run them on the top because it's impossible to depress the switches because they're on the sloped face, not without stomping on the looper anyway. I had to get creative & used a smaller, one-row 20 inch aluminum board & velcro'd it to a larger board, on the top of course, & against the angle of the RC-600, because the little board is angled as well, & it lifts the RC-600 up just enough, & on a perfectly flat surface which makes it much easier to use. GL
@@JeighNeither I don’t sing through the RC unit but of course if I did it is a good reason to go this way as well 👍
The auto record @ 9:40 is what I’ve been looking for!
Nice one 🤘
Thanks mate. Very practical and informative. I’m gonna try and copy this lay out.😃👍🏽🇦🇺
Thanks! Glad it was useful.
Hey man, excellent video. You are the reason why I kept the RC600. I am having trouble laying down different beats on one memory. I tried doing exactly what you to get two different rhythms but dor some reason I only get one rhythm which is the last one I recorded. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! I'm not sure I can help beyond what's in the video. Can you be more specific? Will it just not let you record a second rhythm track?
@Eric Christianson HI, thank you for getting back to me. When I record on track 1 and select a pattern, that pattern is in memory. Of ibwant to go to track 2 and record a totally different genre pattern that will record in track 2. The problem is for me that track 1 now converts to what I did in track 2 instead of keeping track 1. Hope this makes sense.
All I can think of is that you've maybe missed a step in the routing to ensure the rhythm gets on to the track. Once it's there, and tempo sync is off, it should stay--so I'm stumped.
I will try again later today. I am sure it is something I am missing and not the machine. Thank you for getting back to me. Your video was very helpful.
@Eric Christianson Eric, I figured out how to do what you were doing. The reason it didn't work for me was that I forgot to turn off the rhythm button. Right now I have track one and track tow on pedal buttons one and three. How did you designate rhythms on pedal buttons 1 and 2 versus 1 and 3 which seems to be factory settings?
Love it!
Thanks man!
Thank you so much, now i know how it works (after a month)... isn't it better NOT to record a drum pattern to a loop to stay flexible with the drum kits/pattern or rythmn speed or if you want to transfer it to a DAW and put better quality/worked out drums on the tracks?
Hi. Thank you! I can see what you mean in terms of changing speed, but if you’re happy with keeping the tempo there’s a lot of flexibility particularly as you can add any track effects on the fly. Of course you can import prerecorded drums from daw too. Am going to do videos on both such possibilities 🤘
BOSS RC-600 Не нужен !
Just got rid of my RC-600 because I'm sick of Boss's antiquated interface... Picked up a Headrush Looperboard and now extremely happy with how smooth the workflow is... Boss/Roland needs to change alot of their products to touch screen interfaces like they have incorporated into the Phantom...
I totally understand that. The boss deep dive menus approach seems to be embedded in all their flagship pedals. For me though I find that the complex set up happens before a performance and you can keep it simple when playing. Also the price and size of the headrush have turned me off.
thanks, learnt a few things here
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Eric, great video, thanks! just have one question about something that I tried yesterday but was not able to make work. Let's say you have 2 tracks, #1 for the verse and #2 for the chorus and at the end, you repeat the chorus a couple of times, and then you want to have a repetition only with the percussion or rhythm so the audience can sing along, and then a final repetition of the chorus with the track 2 and the rhythm on. So I tried pressing button 9 in mode 1, for the "Start/stop all" function and it worked to stop the track, but when I pressed it again to restart it, it always sent me to track 1 and wouldn't resume the last track that was playing....is there a way to do it? I know I can press the particular start/stop button of track 2, but I was wondering if such a central start stop button existed, because, you know, I could have multiple tracks in parallel and want to stop/start all at the same time. Thanks in advance
Hi. Thanks! I'm not sure of the answer to this. I know that if you press Loop and then select Play and scroll one screen to the right you get different options for which tracks the All Start/Stop function effects. I would try different variations of that. Cheers
@@ericchristianson7589 Thanks so much for your reply. I hadn't seen that so it definitely helps a lot! I will check on that. Thank you!
Never knew about using the Roll function.Thanks.That's a good tip..I'm using a Boss BMIDI-5-35 - Type A MIDI to 3.5mm TRS Cable - 5 foot, from the looper to my DD-200. And Using a 1/8 in. TRS to TRS to the SY-200. They are now both in perfect BPM sync with the looper. 👍....That would work with your BlueSky too..
Thanks. And thanks for your tip too. It's not something I've tried but feel I should with the DD200! I don't think BlueSky has midi as far as I can see but its big brother BigSky probably does?
Well realised dude. Thanks for the great tutorial and well done on that eurithmics cover. Simple yet percise. Please do keep these tutorials coming. The user interface on the emazing rc600 is just horrible, just so un intuitive.
Thanks for the kind words. And yes the deep dive menus are so unintuitive. At least it’s usually worth it!

Hi mate, I made I just did a review of this pedal. I am actually going to return it. Mainly because I prefer multi mode and the ability to change rhythm patterns is not possible. Could you please tell me if it’s possible to control the track level individually ?
Sorry for the late response. The answer is yes. Simply press the loop button, then select the track (on the left) and on the first page there is an option to set the track level individually. It is very useful.
Eric Thank you so very much for your informative tutorials. This machine is a monster and it’s folks like you that really help unlock it’s deep dark secrets. Please keep on keeping on, and thank you so very very much
Hi Bruce. Thanks so much for the kind words! I am hoping to get to another video about this beast soon : )
Hi 👋 I can't seem to find a way to turn off the click/tap tempo/rhythm. On the rc300 it was on the outside next to the tap. I can't seem to find it anywhere which is really odd. Surely ppl like to free loop without a click or tapping in a tempo? Please help
Hi Robert. Sorry for the delay. Have been on holiday. The key here I think is to have the rhythm off (with the dedicated rhythm button). If you turn it off you can start a loop and when you've finished recording it, it will detect the tempo but there will be no click, and you can sync other tracks to that tempo or not with the sync settings for each track. Does that help?
I think Eric that the Trio + that you show is much more friendly to musicians, this Boss Rc is too complicated, even if you learn to handle it, each step you take it´s too long, and yes, the sound of drums and percussion can be clean with it but it lacks that general thread, that groove and those timely variations, not to mention the dynamics, that the Trio + in my opinion achieves much better. For looper professionals and people who have lived playing versions, it may be fine, but it is not to go alone with it (I see in the video that you take your effects separately, normal) because their effects, what I've heard of them in the videos, leave a lot to be desired. On the other hand, it doesn't surprise me that people stop using rhythms with it and prefer to strum the guitar with muted strings due to this that you mentioned at the beginning, and I have returned to point.
I know what you mean, Emilio. There are elements I wish I could take from the Trio+. The bass algorithms are brilliant. I wonder if they will update it! Still I have to say the sound quality live has been brilliant on this and the more I use it the more potential I find.
@@ericchristianson7589 Sorry Eric, you mean the more you use the Rc 600 the more potential you find in it, right?
@@emiliosujar7197 I do. It gets simpler in a way and more easy to streamline when you learn all its shortcuts
@@ericchristianson7589 Thanks so much, you help me a lot.
Hi Eric, first of all congratulations for the video. I have been very interested in those ideas that you launch in your own compositions to use background recordings. I would only like to ask you about the optimization of levels, in the manual it is not clear, it only recommends copying the same settings from the chart. My main concern before buying it is how do we make sure that the sound that comes out of the Rc is not saturated, because once in the mixer or in the sound card this is easy to fix with the Vu Meters, but if we start from a sound that is wrong we will not be able to do anything. Thanks.
Thanks, Emilio! Are you asking about loops taken from a DAW? If so, I had to experiment. I was finding if there was any peaking in the mixdown before exporting, it would peak and deteriorate on the rc. As for recording rhythms on tracks I think it's similar. Try setting the rhythm level differently across a few tracks and see how it works with your input levels. In a word, there are many options to alter: track, rhythm, input, master output etc.
Man, you're all over the place.
Thanks for the vid, could loops and rhythms be synced in the software? I have cubase and ezdrummer so maybe it's better to create prerecorded loops using those? A vid of how you used your day would be awesome 😎
Thanks, Dean. I have had some luck syncing them, if you mean imported loops. I will be doing a vid soon on how to import from DAW and also from another pedal (like Trio Band) to DAW then RC-600. Cheers!
Very useful, thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
How do you have rythem playing without it recording? Is there a way to use the rythem section like a drum machine or do you always need to be recording it into a loop?
I'm using mine in a guitar & bass duo and really want to take advantage the rythem section.
Also. Did you use the rythem converter software to add the wave files? I can't seem to find any info on software.
You can definitely use the rhythm on its own. The best way I think is to assign a button (ideally external control) to rhythm start/stop. As for external rhythms I have found the converter software useless and confusing but the Tone Studio is good for importing a rhythm loop that you have bought or downloaded (see loopman website e.g.) or made on a DAW. Search Boss Tone Studio and you'll find tutorials. The Sweetwater article is really good.
@@ericchristianson7589 does it need to be external? I only need 1 or 2 tracks for looping. It's to bad Boss did make a mode for just utilizing the rythem section.
@@crossover8634 no, you can assign any of the 9 buttons on the unit for this function
Hi, the 11:00 where you adjust track levels, I dont have that option, where did you set that so you can do level per track? Thanks
Hi Mike. What you're seeing at 11:00 is me using one of the four main knobs as assigned in the menu. If you press MENU/SETUP and move two pages right you'll see options for assigning the four knobs for the whole system. I assigned Track 1 level to one of the knobs because I use it a lot. If you just want to adjust the level of each track, just press LOOP/TRACK (1-6) and adjust 'play level' on the first screen. Cheers.
There’s a certain point where automation doesn’t promote the making of music… in the time spent doing all this. 🤷🏻
I take your point. It’s all pointless if the song is crap. The song is everything. I write just with me and my guitar but if you have a solid tune this is just as helpful as anything else that promotes production quality such as pedals or daws. And I enjoy the process and get satisfaction from it. Whatever floats ur boat 🤘
@@ericchristianson7589 I got one of those
Wow bad ass man!! I've gotta take some time to dive in to this. Thanks for the video 🤘🏼
My pleasure 🤘

If you're having trouble with loop lengths not being multiples, the solution is the do the song in 2/4. That's how I play Africa with its odd number of bars. It's in the rhythm options.
Thanks, Glade. Sounds like a great idea! Will try that.
Thanks for this video, I hoped there was a simpler solution (why cant one assign a pedal to change pattern or genre?). But I will try this too :)
I couldn't agree more. If Boss is listening, give us a firmware update with an additional assign to change genres. As it is, there are assigns to change the pattern on its own or the kit, and the kit can give you a very different sound--you need to set target minimum to one kit and max to another and you can toggle between.
@@ericchristianson7589 A Firmwareupdate adressing this would be great! I can only find assigns for variation and kit, are you sure there is one for pattern?
@@ONEPLAYERMODE oops I meant variation. Sorry!
Thanks for your post. I have the Boss 505mk2. Since the software is similar, your videos are very helpful. I look forward to seeing more about downloading DAW recordings. Thanks for your time and sharing.
Hi Eric, Thanks for your posting. I am finding the RC600 to be maddeningly unintuitive. Maybe you can give me some advice. Here is what I am trying to accomplish, and , for the life of me, can't seem to get to work. Seems to me this should be a given for this device. Goal: In a live looping session, using only my feet, I want to be able to record 2 measures on Track One, 2 measures on Track Two. and 10 measures on Track Three. I then want to be able to trigger Track 3 so that it comes in automatically at the end of either Track One or Two, by using the track change / end of loop command. So far, when I set this up, Track Three will start somewhere in the middle of the loop. It needs to start at the beginning. (The only way I've found to make it work is to turn 'Loop Sync' off on Track Three, but that requires a manual adjustment, bending down and using my hand. I see no way to change Loop Sync on/off with a foot switch assignment. I have tried playing with 'quantize', 'tempo sync', and even creating a template. There's got to be something I'm missing. Please, please advise. Cheers
I think there is no other way to start a loop of a different measure length at its beginning (e.g. on your Track 3) than to have loop sync off, but then with it off you cannot record a preset length unless you do so manually (i.e. getting your timing spot on finishing your loop exactly at the end of your 10 measures, and having that loop's measure length set to Free). Is there a reason you don't want to use the method I laid out in the vid? If you do you could have your loop lengths preset. What is the drawback for you?
@@ericchristianson7589 Thanks Eric for taking the time to respond. Greatly appreciated. I understand your suggestion and will sort this out. Cheers

Enjoyed Your video..Picked up a couple 3 things to try..Had the RC-50 and 300..Have a Bunch of WMA's from those on the computer..I'll checkout Sweetwaters site about the Boss Tonestudio...THANKS ! Man-Do I Miss Paper Manuals..I have 3 full cards from my Trio+..If that thing would have had MIDI-and Seperate Bass-Drum and Loop outs.I'd still be using it.A Buddy and I did a lot with it using the Song Function..Then-Recorded onto a DAW..And Adding onto that...MIDI Sure would have been Nice...If you have a Drum Machine.Try sending MIDI from your RC-600..And Using the RC-600 Rythem with it.I was doing that with an Alesis SR-16 OR a BeatBuddy...Both have Fills.. Allman Bros./Grateful Dead Style Double Drummers.. 👍 👍
Thanks for that. Yeah, the Trio+ is a great pedal. I normally sell a loop pedal towards getting a new one but this is the only time I decided to keep my previous, the Trio, because it is such a cool writing tool and the bass algorithms are brilliant. I haven't tried midi drums yet with a looper though I did struggle for hours with the so-called rhythm converter for this pedal and found it to be crap! I would send midi drums from my DAW that sounded nothing like what they should on the RC-600, probably because the mapping is different??

Hi, I found your video very helpful. But I'm wondering how to do the drum fills between tracks. Is that possible?
Hi, thanks. As far as I can see the only fills option is under the rhythm menu going to a page where you see fill option to switch on or off. In the example I did here the switch was off. There is also a variation option that looks like it should switch variations either by measure or loop but I'm not sure that works (I couldn't notice a difference!).
Set "variation change" to "measure", then changen the variation while recording the rhythm onto your track. Should work.
