Is this the director's cut? Because the version I first saw was on DVD and Michael Enslin lives and even shows his wife the tape recording of himself talking to their dead daughter Katie.

What no one else probably thought of was that the room turn down service was actually welcoming him and then the radio started playing "we've only just begun" by the Carpenters which is a wedding song, at that moment he was like in a marriage for life... UNTIL DEATH DO "HIM" PART!!!

Alright...lets Encyclopedia Brown this bitch. Start of with postcard, meet the crazy hotel manager, get the room, rooms hot, rooms fixed, then music countdown starts, then with the home movies, rooms getting colder, my father in the bathroom, hotel manager in the fridge, daughters voice, wall behind the window, room is hot, wife on her way to hotel, who is in the elevator....

The part where he struggles to stand up, has to hold onto the doorways, the room is pulling him away from the door, while his wife is at the door trying to get him to open it. I prefer the first version of 1408 where…SPOILER………………………………………………………………………………………… Mike lives.

There must be two endings to this movie. I clearly remember him surviving, Samuel L's character saying "good job Mr. Enslin" and Mike being alive at the end and listening to his daughter on the tape.
