Overtightening a Benchcrafted Glide vise
I first over tighten it. You can see how the bottom still comes in a bit. If I put up a straightedge to the chop you can see it has flexed sightly. This isn't good.
After I loosen it I retighten it correctly. The piece held in the chop can now be worked.
I think I'm fine here, I just shouldn't over tighten it, it just needs about a third of a turn once the piece is supported by the vise, that's all.

The Canada Jay is a notorious beggar. They showed up probably within 30 seconds of us driving into the clearing, just like last year. They didn't show up after the hike. We were tempted to start the car, drive away, and drive back to see if the car noise attracted them.

Actually yes, as I type this it has been paddled, but you need to wait for Episode 24 for the click-baity almost finale.

Well. Done for. Posting. Real life trial and error. How we learn
Most of the videos on RUclips of this waltz say that it's in A major.
Am I playing it in A Major? No, I'm not, I'm playing it in G Major. This is from the Delcamp online Classical Guitar classes, from my exam for year 1 4 years ago.
I came to make a paddle, not get a lecture from your shirt.
You didn't even get to see the bottom half! :- )
What?!?!?!? I just watched 10 episodes just to see the paddle trashed and now starting over?!?!?! Get rid of episodes 1-10!
So sorry. There is an intro video where I tell you to not watch them. I keep them around because they do teach a lot of elementary wood working, and I'm certainly a beginner there. Sometimes we learn more from our mistakes than our successes. But... I will edit the descriptions telling people to watch the Intro video, and maybe not watch 1-10.
0:30 incline railway car
re: Care of hand planes... a dear friend and wicked good woodworker told me to store my planes lying on their sides to protect the delicate cutting edge and to never just put them in a container with other tools... these will jostle around and dull the cutting edge. Fwiw.
I have trouble getting the pin in and out. You made it looks so easy!
I wiggle the hullavators back and forth, that helps a lot. I also keep a small dead blow hammer in my bag and gently use it needed.
Where was this video filmed? Looks like an awesome trail !
How old and size when they spawn?
I'm not sure, maybe a year old or so?
Hi do u give straight vegetarian pellets or mix of protein in as algae eaters.what brand please and size
Both species are pure vegetarian, so I just fed veggie pellets and blanched greens like the kale.
Excellent job thank you right to the point
Aquarium size ?
what size bar do you have ?
I don't remember, but unless you have a Subaru Ascent it won't matter. You need to measure YOUR car and then decide how far out you want it to stick. Minimum is 4" max is 8" I went to 6". Just buy a bar longer and cut with a hacksaw.
I saw another review that said Hullavator doesn't work with evo bars-- any issues?
Works fine.
This kayaker does a great job doing this: ruclips.net/video/jH-UPHVLvzY/видео.html
Have to build something like for my self also
It is a modified English Joiner's Bench by Rex Kruger. (ruclips.net/video/zcq1LQq08lk/видео.html) I modified the design to be 1 foot longer and have a lower shelf. (The shelves are not installed in this video) Great bench. Rex has other designs, including some that break down and his latest is his "Minimal Timber Bench) for those on really tight budgets. I built that entirely with hand tools. (Oh crap, I just noticed the casters, I used a power drill for those, LOL)
How many inches is the evo bar< Also how many inches from FACTORY RAIL does it protrude out i am unable to determine the length of the evo bar for my hyndai santa fe sport 2016
I think it comes in several widths. You need at least 4 inches from the side of your car and no more than 8. Just use a hacksaw to cut it to your width. I went for 5 inches wide since the Ascent has "wide hips" and I'm glad I did. The roof rails narrow in rear and I got 6 inches, which is almost not enough. So cut it long, test, and cut again if needed.
This is such a great tutorial, thanks from Italy! I'll be starting off in my own basement soon as I find the right wood, as for the moment I'm having a hard time finding the right wood, as I could only find very soft and knotty spruce or fir mostly meant for carpentry. Thanks!
You're so welcome. Search long and hard for the right wood, it makes a real difference. I see you are on #3 now, jump ahead to #11, ruclips.net/video/KifcBZuW0CU/видео.html. I make a lot of bad decisions early on. Have fun!
@@notthepainter yes, I will, I was thinking of larch, it's the best and most durable conifer you would find here in northern Italy
Thank you! Due to my previous school schedule I wasn’t able to get out on the water as much as I’d like to; therefore, not attaching my hullavator much since having it installed. I was doing it incorrectly and the pin was always accessible even after locking. This was clear and made attaching so much easier! 💪🏾

@@notthepainter not right now, but planning to, especially if I manage to build for my self a skin on frame Kayak
@@tommiprami I'll be starting my skin on frames this winter, good luck.
Not too distant past, you could've just buy tracing paper almost anywhere, here in Finland lottery tickets, which you filled by hand, had also tracing paper, to get your own copy. Ball point pen could've been better than pencil for tracing the lines, I bet it would slide better in the paper
wouldn't tracing paper work backwards, as a kid I remember using it, to make copies of things on the paper. And good tip on the ballpoint pen, that would have been perfect!
@@notthepainter tracing paper just is what actually you did, not sure of is that the right term i English tough. I.meam the stuff that had pencil stuff or ink pre built into the paper. Tracing paper might be that thing translucent one, not sure, tell me if you know

this tank' to undergravel or no??
Uh no... this isn't 1975. Sorry to be rude, but cichlids and under gravels just don't mix. It was an Eheim Pro 350 if I recall on a 40 gallon breeder and it wasn't enough.
@@notthepainter ohh ok thanks your suport mix aquarium filter top
Cichlid😍👍 🤟
Super 👍
Did you blanch the kale before feeding?
Personnellement, je blanchis toujours la salade avant de la donner aux poissons !
What kind of gravel is that and where did you get it?
I think it is Carib Sea's Eco Complete Cichlid gravel, supposedly buffers the water. Ask for it locally.

How's your DIY reactor going?
It ran perfectly well but I've since moved the tank and am trying without CO2, grow, of course has been much slower. I may put it back on.
Its really hard to find a large piece of wood that isn't going to have a troublesome knot. There are a couple of strategies you can use. If the not is fairly solid you can leave it "proud" as old folks would say, but that would involve cutting the paddle with a hand axe or a draw knife. If the wood in the knot is funky, you can take a very sharp small knife and clean out the knot leaving a hole. You can drill out the hole with a bit and insert a wooden dowel or hand carved plug with glue or epoxy, or you can mix saw dust from your cuts with epoxy and fill the hole then finish the shaping. The comment about skewing the spokeshave means to turn the spoke shave at about a 30 degree angle, and also tilt it a bit so you are just taking the wood off gradually around the hole. A draw knife would work better. Sometimes a cabinet scraper works better because it doesn't tend to tear the wood up around the knot.
Thanks, it's all great to know.
Please what is this food? How many times a week do I feed them? My greetings
It is kale, from the grocery store. They would get it as a treat once in awhile. Chiclid pellets once a day otherwise.

Cool time-lapse. Setting up a cerges tomorrow, so much appreciated idea!
Rather than climb on levering your leg on the paddle shaft try a heel hook. Hook your left heel in the front of the cockpit while pinning the paddle shaft to the deck line with your right hand at right angles to the boat. Reach over with your left and pull yourself into the cockpit keeping the body low. Rotate in the same direction all the way till you are right way up.
I shared this on the paddling.com forums and many people suggested, I had a chance to try it out a year late. ruclips.net/video/GPaM-fhtxDM/видео.html Thanks for helping out here! I know I still need practice.

These work better with medium course sponge, replacing supplied fine pads . And you'll find that just cutting a strip of sponge to stuff into the rear groove of float basket will allow for easy adjustment anytime you need to change skimmer speeds, such as air bubble formation..etc. (A cheaper work around for a finicky gadget ;)
would this work for a 6 gallon aquarium?
I think it would but it would create quite a lot of current. You'll want to slow that down like I did here.
When using a spoke shave or plane with a knot like that I would skew the plane or shave. :)
so you only take a bit of the knot away at a time?
Very nice! Are these all males?
No, both species were mixed gender.
Are these all males?
No

oh, the band is Firewater, from the excellent "Songs We Should Have Written" album.

How many ? What size tank ?
That's a 40 gallon breeder, perhaps half a dozen of the Labs, and a few Acei.
What leaves you feed for fish
Kale, blanch it first.
@@notthepainter thanks for reply
The other drill might have been better. It appears to have a dual-speed knob and it would change the gearing to a higher level and better for that bit.
You put the knob closer in? It looks like there's a hole there.
@@notthepainter That appears to be a Goodell Pratt two-speed drill (the maker's mark is on the crank handle holder bar, under all the rust). Next to the flywheel, on the back side, there is a small knob (probably nickel-plated at one time). To change speeds, you pull the small knob out and spin it a half turn , this will change the gear to a faster/slower ratio. That is a great drill and will serve you well, once you refurbish it.
@@bestbuilder1st I do see the mark, starts with a G and dirt covers the rest. But I can see the second line and that does say Greenfield so it definitely is a Goodell Pratt. Cool! I also see the adjuster but it won't turn a full 180 degrees, so it looks like I have a cool restoration project on my hands. I found this link, michael-parrish.com/2016/05/31/goodell-pratt-5-12-b-two-speed-hand-drill-restoration/, that will surely help! Thanks so much!
