Mechanical Music, or automated musical instruments have been around for centuries, from the earliest music boxes, to the self playing player piano; mechanical instruments have evolved to complex machines capable of imitating an orchestra, as in an 'orchestrion', or a marching band, as in a 'band organ'.
Music machines not only are fascinating to look at, but much more : listen to! These extremely fun machines bring music to life in an animated, acoustic masterpiece.

👏👏👏👏👏
Tune #2 is "Bring Back the Old-Fashioned Waltz" (Stephen Jones, 1923)
Would like to watch them”play”on this organ Have seen the band figures play on other videos.
@@rexoliver7780 all I have are audio recordings of these - but other videos are posted.
👏👏👏👏👏
What is the song being played on this neat instrument? Like this tune.
I just ID'ed the march song (you might call it a one-step song) on the Molinari book (Gebruder Bruder 104 scale) at 21:30 : It is the Irving Berlin Song "I'm Going Back to the Farm", copyrighted and published in 1915 (do now public domain). This is the same unidentified song on the PianOrchestra roll I mentioned earlier. I was able to identify it using a combination of two methods: 1. The end of the chorus of the song quotes Berlin's earlier "rube" song "This is the Life", so I figured it was another song about a farmer, or something. Turns out this song is the follow-up song written to capitalize on the success of "This is the Life". 2. Wurlitzer used many of the same tune line-ups for both their 5-tune PianOrchestra rolld and 5-tune APP rolls, and so I figured this was certainly on an APP roll (probably in a different arrangement) from the same general era as the unknown PianOrchestra roll. After all, Wurlitzer shared a common pool of music arrangers, sheet music etc in their arranging department. I didn't have high hopes of finding it because there are still many gaps in the PianOrchestra and APP rollographies, due to lack of known surviving rolls (or catalogs / bulletins listing them) for certain roll numbers. But I found it! Here's the sheet music from the Lester S. Levy sheet music collection at Johns Hopkins University: levysheetmusic.mse.jhu.edu/collection/077/143
I have heard the "unidentified one-step" (song) at 21:30 before. It is on a cassette tape the late Stephen Kent Goodman made me of his "Seeburg Celesta Super Orchestrion" (actually a Seeburg MO) he built up, playing Wurlitzer Mandolin PianOrchestra music via MIDI. Unfortunately, however, this tune is ALSO unidentified on this cassette (he sent it to me in like 2011 hoping I could ID the tunes, and I IDed several of them). I *believe*, after checking my text file with notes on the tracks, that it is Mandolin PianOrchestra roll 776, tune 2. I just spent about 2 hours on the Indiana University "IN Harmony" public domain sheet music archive, looking thru 1913-1915 march songs and one-step songs by major publishers (Remick, Shapiro, Stern, Feist, Harry Von Tilzer, Broadway Music Co, Will Rossiter, Harold Rossiter etc) but no dice _yet_. When I find it, I'll post again here.
Such a beautiful organ and thank you Mikey!
Fantastic Sounding Organ😊
👏👏👏👏👏
Nearly sounds like the klm march in the beginning
I really love these arrangements and the choice of music. Great Job!
I love Pianino rolls. There's such a variety of music from the early years to later 20s! Thanks, Mikey
I agree!
Sounds great!
Is it just me or is that a 125 rollframe? I know that Wurlitzer 50 organs also use this with Pianino rolls. I assumed it was just that model of organ, but I seem to be wrong. Love the sound and arrangements.
According to Julie Porter who hs made a study of Wurlitzer roll frames and also CAD drawings of them, I believe, Wurlitzer used the same roll frame side plates, gears, hardware etc for all roll styles of a certain era of roll frame design. So regardless of whether it was a 125, 150, 165, Pianino, or 65N APP roll frame, the components were the same, except for the tracker bar, tie rods, take-up spool, and roll chuck. Several models are not known to have ever had a long roll frame, because the model was discontinued before this was introduced. An example is the 88-note Automatic Player Piano, which takes very rare 88-note APP rolls. Another example is the Mandolin Quartette and Mandolin Sextette. To contrast, a few later models seem to have been made with a roll changer ONLY, and a long roll frame did not appear to be an option. Examples include the Autograph Piano and the Solo Violin Piano.
@@andrewbarrett1537 Thank you so much!
Lovely sound!
Bravo!
I am a piano teacher! This is just GREAT!!! Love that it is in tune too! So many of the antique pianos are so out of tune.
Cute! Are the bass strings on this one tuned an octave lower than usual? It has a much deeper bass than most other Pianinos I've heard.
Looking forward to more on your channel maybe a 165 next or perhaps Madam Laura?
Great footage of your pianino, Mikey!
Tune list: 0:00 Cooking Breakfast For The One I Love 2:03 California Sunshine 3:59 The Talk Of The Town 5:55 ??? 7:58 Let Me Sing And I'm Happy
I'm also curious what is the song at 5:55. The melody is so similar to the 1913 Joe Cooper song "Down Old Harmony Way", that the publisher, Shapiro, could have sued the publisher of this one for plagiarism.
I saw this 146A last year! By the way, how is your 87 key Gavioli, Mikey?
By the looks of each machine, the first looks like 75, the second 59, and the the one that's all jumpers might be 38 although I am not entirely sure.
Very nice, Mikey
Both of your Marches are "Fantastic"!
The photo is of what PTC carousel?
Just about to ask the same thing!
Which one? The earlier one in the video was a park model carousel. I don't think it exists anymore. The later one in the video was a traveling PTC carousel and I'm not sure if it's the one that's still running or one of the broken up ones.
👏👏👏👏👏
I really like your Miss America march!
Thank you!
One rare and beautifully restored Ruth!
There's something about the American arranged books that just brings a smile to my face! This Ruth has a fantastic, powerful sound, which when combined with these fun arrangements is truly something to behold!
Impressive!
Very excellent arrangement and book on Gavin's Ruth! I just wish I could go visit him, but I'm not going alone...
Gives me chills.
I would love to see and hear this organ!
This thing sounds amazing it’s the only working price of Luna park we’ve got and I’m glad it’s the organ
I love Street Organs & this is one of the best, perfectly tuned & the percussion is not too overpowering.

@@MechanicalMusics Oops, I didn't even read the title sorry about that.
The last time I went there they have it connected to a computer using midi files. It still works though, I guess they figured out how to use midi on it now.

Hello Mikey, I'd love to ask which Zoom mic do you use for these recordings?
Great music to stretch this wonderful instrument's legs! I loved hearing it when I was a boy in the 1960's at Nunley's and still do!
Looking forward to more
Very nice, Mikey keep up the great work for both the Ruth and 165 scale.
