Descent G1 by garmin is a perfect entry level Dive computer , that does so so much more !! It will do everything an MK2 from Garmin does, just smaller. You give up color display, a few topo, and golf maps and minor fitness options .. but you get so much .. go to there website , click dive in the wearables section. Then click compare , and pick G1 and MK2 , see fir yourself! This video is about ...

Great response video. I, like many of your commentators, do other things aside from recreational diving. I cycle, Snowboard, hike, SUP, and run. This watch is perfect for us. Thanks for the video!
The black solar is the way to go it’s a great product for doing a little of everything like this guy does I love mine and I just got it
He was reviewing the solar, which is a bit tougher to see details while diving. I bet if he had your watch, he'd see things your way. Also, air integration would have been icing on the cake. I liked your video. Glad you made it back.
Come on man! You can’t say you lost your watch but an octopus found it for you… and not tell the story!!
the fat don't need G1
You hit the nail on the head with this and I thought exactly the same things when watching his review. 1. Most of his reviews seem on point 2. He kind of hated on this watch and basically says "who would buy this?" 3. He seems to like the MK2 and equally recommends the MK2S. This watch is virtually the MK2S without music playback, looks a bit different but is nearly half the price, which is a huge difference. 4. He complains that it's priced for the entry level diver yet has advanced features....... How is that a bad thing? 5. He complains that it has advanced features yet still lacks AI. Well firstly, this helps keep it priced competitively, secondly, the MK2S also doesn't have AI and he recommends this computer at nearly double the price of the G1, and thirdly, many divers don't use AI (it's expensive, only on limited models, and not necessary at all). Oh, and lastly he also says he'll never use Garmin AI until they get rid of the sonar beeps anyway. I personally found his review on the G1 bizarre. I watched it while considering the watch, the only thing that swung me towards the MK2S is the music playback function and the fact that I got it heavily discounted due to it being discontinued. Otherwise the G1 was a no brainier when comparing RRP for RRP. Looks are subjective, and to throw a computer under the bus because he doesn't like the looks when it has virtually all the functions of the MK2 which he says is one of the best computers in the world, but at just half the price, is odd. And to top it off, when comparing the G1 with the MK2i bundle (to have AI) it's less than a third of the price!
Thanks for your video! I'm using an Instinct 2 watch, which fulfilled all my requirements, but I've started diving and looking for a computer. I had a dilemma between Garmin Descent G1 and any other dive computer. With your help, my dilemma vanished, so I go for Descent G1.
Does it support dog tracking with alpha 200i ????
I will answer my question for those who intend to buy.Yes it does support dog tracking
agreed. Love the watch for its variety. Your average recreational diver doesn't actually do any physical exercise though outside diving and thinks scuba diving makes them "physically active" It makes them feel like James Bond but look like James Corden. great video
Divers ready are allergic to outdoors that why that guy don't know who could buy that watch.
Thanks for the review - Do you know if you're able to create a GPS marker when swimming at the surface? And are you able to navigate to previously saved GPS markers? Thanks!
Genius piece of technology!
"PromoSM" 😄
I noticed your does not have the yellow details, is this a special version?
This gives me so much Fallout vibes
I have it for a year and i really like it. i did 30+ dives with it and it did fine. Other than that use it for running and hiking or at the gym which is great. After a year of everyday use basically no single scratch. Very durable. Maybe for heavy diving dedicated computer would be better, but this thing can do EVERYTHING ;).
I wish they had made it colored screen at the same price range. Love the loon of the watch tho. It does have the GShock vibe to it
I love my G1! I was diving in barely 1 metre visibility and the dive screen did everything- my diving instructor analogue compass didn't do that well in our navigation through the silt. It measured everything correctly. Fantastic watch.
Cool watch. Hoping Garmin comes out with a Descent G2 or MK3 soon so I can upgrade
MK3 probably end of the year. Descent G1 was released just last year so it will be a few years for a refresh. The Instinct -> Instinct 2 was 4 years so don't expect the G2/Instinct 3 to be released for several years
I just finished watching that other video before I found yours and I’m 100 percent in agreement with you! I do hiking, skiing, diving, swimming, and all sorts of things and this one seems great!
I really cant find this gps option… anyone wanna help describing how i get to this track option on my descent g1?

Instead of claiming a week or more battery life, Garmin should have made the screen brightness adjustable for the user. I purchased their Garmin Forerunner 255. I hate how dim it is. I called Garmin and asked which of their watches have a brighter screen and he said they are all the same. Since then, they did come out with AMOLED screens, which are bright, on limited watches, but none are dive watches. Ugh.
YOU CAN SAY THAT AGAIN AGAIN AND AGAIN 🤨
Good review and comparison, I just bought a G1 Solar about a month ago. One of the band keepers is already breaking on me so It is safe to say that the band is cheaply made. Apart from this it is a good watch with many functions.
Divers Ready did love the G1's expensive big brother, the Garmin MK2i. I agree that he failed to recognize the value proposition of the G1 for regular recreational divers. Divers Ready has expensive taste.
I disagree divers ready is reviewing a product to all who are interested not just divers.. and then he puts out a video, of computers under $500, and for $50 more , you get tons more with G1. Just not a fair review by divers ready , he missed the demographic garmin went for .. you may may only dive, lots of us do more and this watch can keep up
He is speaking to us scuba divers. I only use mine for diving. I need the big display, and vibration. I don't like hearing beeping. It is all an opinion. In your case, I would buy the one you have.
I think it depends on what you're doing. Technical diver? Nope, more dedicated options. Air integration? Nope, not an option. General sports smart watch? That's the group. I think the other question is, "Is the solar option worth an extra $150?"
You missed the point :) in that same price range your getting way more for you money ..
Oh and no to the solar , not worth it .. buy other gear , the battery last plenty long and charges fast ! Carry back up battery bank if worried
Please do correct me if my reasoning is flawed, this is more a question than a statement. Assuming most rechargeable watches have about 500 full charges until they start to have noticeable dips in performance, and having the solar capabilities would mean less recharges in the same period of time, would it then make sense to assume the solar one would have a much longer lifespan?
@@bowmentumarchery6125 Yes, thanks for your advice. Saved 150€ for going with the non-solar one. This was great advice, based on Divers review it doesn't charge too well, and battery life is good enough without it anyways.
Yeah I just need something for spear fishing, and to track my trail runs lol
I've recently got myself Descent MK2 (not G1 but anyway) and it's the best smartwatch I've ever seen, it literally does have everything you can imagine and even more. I am using it as everyday watch and for diving and I couldn't be happier. It has 16 days (!) battery life, I would pick it over any smartwatch which lasts 30hrs every time.
ruclips.net/video/eUT1DPAVtEo/видео.html MK2 is the best, but this one has monitor too small, cant see well
Totally agree with you, i also have a G1, i was diving with it on the Maledives, the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean, i also use it for hiking, skiing, back country skiing, running and in the gym and this watch never disapointed me under no circumstances, you made a good choice. BTW, great post of yours.
I’ve been using the solar G1 since it came out, and I absolutely love it ! Great watch
Cool! Thanks for the video, this is what i need to know about this G1 watch, now time for checkout my basket order😂
Yup, same over all reason I picked the G1 over other options. I’m a avid outdoor person who also dives, not just a diver. Divers Ready can get real preachy as well.
Exactly! G1 is the watch for me
